Purpose:The aim of the present study was to assess both the credibility and strength of evidence arising from systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies on handgrip strength and health ***:An umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies was *** assessed meta-analyses of observational studies based on random-effect summary effect sizes and their p values,95%prediction intervals,heterogeneity,small-study effects,and excess *** graded the evidence from convincing(Class I)to weak(Class IV).Results:from 504 articles returned in a search of the literature,8 systematic reviews were included in our review,with a total of 11 ***,nine of the 11 of the outcomes reported nominally significant summary results(pf the more stringent p value(pfidence interval(95%CI):0.670.78),(2)cardiovascular death risk in mixed populations(n=15 studies;relative risk=0.84,95%CI:0.780.91),and(3)incidence of disability(n=7 studies;relative risk=0.76,95%CI:0.660.87).Conclusion:The present results show that handgrip strength is a useful indicator for general health status and specifically for early all-cause and cardiovascular mortality,as well as *** further inform intervention strategies,future research is now required to fully understand mechanisms linking handgrip strength scores to these health outcomes.

Ethnobotanical Studies on the Use of Medicinal Plants among forest fringe Communities around the Kasewe forest in Moyamba District, Southern Sierra Leone

forests are home to many flora and fauna species. forest flora have been very important to man and sustainability of forest ecosystem. forest flora provides provisional, regulatory, protective and cultural services. These services have been the foundation of civilization and development. Local communities depend on these natural resources for livelihood generation and cultural services. Local communities have been using medicinal plants to cure different ailments. In this study, an ethnobotanical survey was conducted to document medicinal plants diversity and use in forest fringe communities. The study adopted a method used by Martin in 1995 on Ethnobotanical reviews of medicinal plants. Ethnobotanical information was gathered through structured questionnaires administered to 57 inhabitants constituting key informants, community leaders, and household heads who are believed to have vast indigenous knowledge of medicinal plants. The snowball technique was used to identify respondents in communities around the Kasewe forest. for the diversity of medicinal plants use and associated indigenous knowledge, a plot of size 25 m × 25 m was demarcated with a linear tape and ranging poles in the different habitat types in the study area. Sampling was stratified based on the size of habitat types. A total of 10 sample plots comprising of 4 plots in the closed forest;3 plots in disturbed areas, 2 plots in farmland, and 1 plot in the grassland were studied. A total of 3377 individual plant stems were documented comprising of 84 individual species belonging to 53 families and 78 genera. Of the 84 individual plant species, 42 were medicinal. The most dominant family was Malvaceae. Tree species were the most dominant life form representing 32.14% followed by shrubs 30.5, herbs 26.8% and climbers 10%. A history of low back pain affects pelvis and trunk coordination during a sustained manual materials handling task

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to compare the coordination between the trunk and the pelvis during a sustained asymmetric repetitive lifting task between a group with a history of low back pain(LBP;HBP) and a group with no history of LBP(NBP).Methods:Volunteers lifted a 11-kg box from ankle height in front to a shelf 45° off-center at waist height,and lowered it to the start position at12 cycles/min for 10 *** side was alternated during the *** relative phase was used to calculate coordination between the pelvis and trunk rotation at the beginning(Min 1),middle(Min 5),and end of the bout(Min 9).Results:While there were no main effects for group,a significant interaction between time and group indicated that,in the frontal plane,the NBP group coordination was more anti-phase toward the end of the bout,with no such differences for the HBP *** of sagittal-axial(bend and twist) coordination revealed the HBP group coordination was more in-phase at the end of the bout over the entire cycle and for the lifting phase alone,with no such differences for the NBP ***:Differences between groups demonstrate residual consequences of LBP in an occupational scenario,even though the HBP group was pain-free for >6 months prior to data *** in-phase coordination in the HBP group may represent a coordination pattern analogous to'guarded gait' which has been observed in other studies,and may lend insight as to why these individuals are at increased risk for re-injury.

The aim of this paper is to test a developed SOR R＆B method using the Chebyshev accelerator algorithm to solve the Laplace equation in a cubic 3D configuration. Comparisons are made in terms of precision and computing time with other elliptic equation solvers proposed in the open source LIS library. The first results, obtained by using a single core on a HPC, show that the developed SOR R＆B method is efficient when the spectral radius needed for the Chebyshev acceleration is carefully pre-estimated. Preliminary results obtained with a parallelized code using the MPI library are also discussed when the calculation is distributed over one hundred cores.

Diallel analyses of soluble sugar content in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata ***.)

The content of soluble sugar in cowpea(Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) seeds is important for their acceptability to consumers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic control of soluble sugar content in cowpea using diallel analysis. for this purpose,half-diallel crosses were made among seven diverse parents. The amount of total soluble sugar was estimated by the phenol sulfuric acid reagent method and reducing sugar were measured by the DNS(3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid) reagent method. The total soluble sugar ranged from 11.12(VYA) to 40.79 mg g^(-1)(IT93 K-693-2) with a mean of 22.31 mg g^(-1).Reducing soluble sugar showed a mean value of 9.11 mg g^(-1) and ranged from 13.61(TVx3236) to 4.98 mg g^(-1)(Lori niebe). Diallel analysis showed that both additive and non-additive gene effects were significant in the genetic control of these traits. However,dominance variance was greater than additive variance for soluble sugar. The traits were controlled mainly by an overdominance model, suggesting the advantage of delaying selection to later generations. Soluble sugar content was found to be highly heritable, with broad-sense heritability ranging from 0.987 to 0.976. Narrow-sense heritability ranged from0.154 to 0.422 and revealed the lower importance of additive variance. Parents and f_1 hybrids differed significantly on the basis of their general and specific combining abilities,respectively. Recessive alleles had positive effects on total soluble sugar and reducing soluble sugar. These results could help cowpea breeders improve the acceptability of cowpea seeds and cowpea-based foods by appropriate selection.

Evaluating a combined bowel preparation for small-bowel capsule endoscopy:a prospective randomized–controlled study

Background:Capsule endoscopy(CE)is frequently hindered by intra-luminal *** aim was to determine whether a combination bowel preparation would improve small-bowel visualization,diagnostic yield,and the completion rate of ***:Single-blind,prospective randomized–controlled study of outpatients scheduled for ***-preparation subjects ingested 2 L of polyethylene glycol solution the night prior to CE,5mL simethicone and 5mg metoclopramide 20 minutes prior to CE and laid in the right lateral position 30 minutes after swallowing *** had no solid food after 7 *** night prior to CE and no liquids 4 hours prior to *** completed a satisfaction *** readers completed a small-bowel-visualization ***:fifty patients were prospectively enrolled(56%female)with a median age of 54.4 years and 44 completed the study(23 patients in the control group and 21 in the preparation group).There was no significant difference between groups on quartile-based small-bowel visualization(all P>0.05).There was no significant difference between groups in diagnostic yield(P=0.69),mean gastric(P=0.10)or small-bowel transit time(P=0.89).The small-bowel completion rate was significantly higher in the preparation group(100%vs 78%;P=0.02).Bowel-preparation subjects reported significantly more discomfort than controls(62%vs 17%;P=0.01).Conclusions:Combined bowel preparation did not improve small-bowel visualization but did significantly increase patient *** CE completion rate improved in the preparation group but the diagnostic yield was *** on our findings,a bowel preparation prior to CE does not appear to improve CE performance and results in decreased patient satisfaction(***,***01243736).
