Effects of organic chromium supplementation to finishing lambs diet on growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality

the objective of this study was to evaluate supplemental organic chromium（Cr） to finishing lambs on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality. Eighteen Suffolk lambs（age（4.5±0.2） mon;（25.8±3.6） kg body weight（BW）） were randomly assigned to three levels of supplemental organic Cr（0.0, 0.2 and 0.4 mg kg^–1 dry matter（DM）） in a complete random design. Growth performance was evaluated for 70 d, and then lambs were slaughtered to study carcass characteristics and chemical composition of meat. Orthogonal contrasts were performed（contrast one-average level 0.2 ppm Cr vs. average level 0.4 ppm Cr; contrast two-level 0 vs. average levels（0.2＋0.4） ppm Cr）. Orthogonal polynomials were used to estimate the linear and quadratic effects of Cr concentrations. Growth and carcass performance were not affected by supplemental organic Cr. Muscle conformation and leg perimeter linearly increased（P〈0.05） as organic Cr level increased in the diet. Kidney fat decreased linearly（P〈0.05） as supplemental Cr increased. In Longissimus dorsi（LD）, the ash content decreased linearly, and shear force（kg cm^–2） increased（P〈0.05） as organic Cr level increased in the diet. It is concluded that organic Cr did not affect growth performance, but it improved positively the muscle conformation, reduced kidney fat, whereas in LD there was an increment in shear force in finishing carcass lambs.

Effect of a bacterial inoculum and additive on dry matter in situ degradability of sugarcane silage

the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding a bacterial inoculum and a handmade additive to sugarcane silage（SCS） on the in situ digestibility of dry matter（DM）. the treatments were： t1） sugarcane silage（SCS） and t2） sugarcane silage with 1% inoculum and 1% additive（SCS＋）. the bacterial inoculum consisted of 10.0% molasses, 1.0% yogurt, 5.0% chicken manure, 0.5% urea, and 83.0% water, and the additive was formulated with 1.0% urea, 0.1% ammonium sulfate, and 0.25% phosphorus. In situ dry matter digestibility（DMD） was determined using the nylon bag technique with four cows equipped with ruminal fistulas. Cows were fed with ensiled sugarcane supplemented with 1 kg of commercial concentrate. 5 g of ground sample for each sugarcane treatment were weighted in nylon bags and incubated for 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h in a completely randomized design with six replicates. the DMD（%） was higher（P〈0.05） for SCS＋ for all incubation times when compared with SCS. there were no differences in ruminal p H between the treatments for all the incubation times. the data suggested that the sugarcane silage with bacterial inoculum and additive could be an alternative for providing forage for ruminants during the season of low growth and quality grass.

thermic effects of acupuncture on taixi (太溪 KI 3) evaluated by means of infrared telethermography

Objecive to observe the eventual thermic effects of stimulaing tàixī (太溪 KI 3) by telethermography. Methods Nine individuals of both sexes, chosen randomly, paricipated in this study. the temperature of the room where the experiment was carried out was not above 21 ℃. At the start of the experiment the volunteer stayed for exactly ten minutes in the room for acclimaizaion, then the first thermographic image was recorded for standardizaion purposes. Following this, an acupuncture needle was inserted at KI 3 only in the right leg, whose depth was limited to obtain deqi, only manual stimulation for 15 min permanence in the site. Ater this period, new images were recorded. Results Significant reduction of all the right leg temperatures, by about 1.1 ℃ in all the volunteers that received the acupuncture at the Kl 3 was noted, with a coefficient variaion of Pthat was staisically highly significant, while on the other not simulated leg the variaion that occurred was around 0.7 ℃, with no significant coefficient variation of P>0.05. Conclusion the results of this study demonstrate that manual simulaion of the Kl 3 influences significantly peripheral vascular circulation, by means of sympathetic stimulaion causing vasoconstricion.

Objective:to investigate the incidence of malaria and anaemia among children after the ninth malaria day ***:Children attending primary healthcare centres in Makurdi for routine immunization purposes were recruited between September and November 2008 into the *** and thin blood films from arterial blood were stained with Giemsa’s stain and examined microscopically;packed cell volume(PCV) was measured using haematocrit machine and body temperatures with the aid of paediatric thermometers;other anthropometric measurements were also *** relevant information on the children and their parents were obtained with the aid of a structured *** obtained was analysed using Epi Info statistical s of tware,P values≤0.05 were considered ***:the incidence of Plasmodium falciparum parasitaemia was 32.3%among the 502 children;85.9%(n=139) of children with malaria parasites were anaemic and 88.9%(8/9) of the children with fever had *** were commonet in children aged one year and above(P<0.05).Use of insecticide treated bed nets(ttNs) was 24.7%(n=124) while 27.9%(n=140) used untreated bed *** was no significant difference in malaria incidence among those who used ItNs, untreated nets and other unconventional control methods(P>0.05).Educational level of mothers had no significant impact on the incidence of malaria among the children(P>0.05),while occupation had(P< 0.05).Conclusions:Malaria and anaemia are still major health problems in Makurdi city as in several other parts of sub-Saharan *** of ItNs and massive health education at the grass root should be stepped up,and possibly supply of facilities for rapid malaria diagnosis to the community should be considered.

Elephant grass is a tropical forage plant widely spread in Brazil, used mainly in the livestock sector and in cattle feeding. Because of its high productivity and photosynthetic capacity, this culture has also been considered an alternative source of renewable energy. Six clones of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) were evaluated under five levels of nitrogen fertilization (100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 kg·N·ha-1), in a randomized-block design with a split-plot arrangement with three replicates, from April 2010 to december 2012, in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes— RJ, Brazil. the objective was to obtain estimates of variation in morpho-agronomic traits and biomass quality. We observed that genotypes Cameroon-Piracicaba and Gua?u I/z2 have great potential to be used, with maximum dry matter yields of 60.97 and 44.10 t·ha-1 per cut for energy purposes among the studied genotypes.

temperature Fluctuations in a Rectangular Nanochannel

We consider an incompressible fluid in a rectangular nanochannel. We solve numerically the three dimensional Fourier heat equation to get the steady solution for the temperature. then we set and solve the Langevin equation for the temperature. We have developed equations in order to determine relaxation time of the temperature fluctuations, τt = 4.62 × 10-10s. We have performed a spectral analysis of the thermal fluctuations, with the result that temporal correlations are in the one-digit ps range, and the thermal noise excites the thermal modes in the two-digit GHz range. Also we observe long-range spatial correlation up to more than half the size of the cell, 600 nm;the wave number, q, is in the 106 m-1 range. We have also determined two thermal relaxation lengths in the z direction: l1 = 1.18 nm and l2 = 9.86 nm.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease Associated to the Epstein-Barr Virus. A type of Rare Necrotizing Lymphadenitis and Its Differential Diagnosis

Introduction: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a specific and self-limited disease;its etiology is unknown. Some causal microorganisms have been proposed. the objective of the present article is to emphasize the clinicopathological characteristics of this disease that has been associated to the Epstein-Barr virus and to compare the histological changes with other types of necrotizing lymphadenopathies. Material and Methods: We studied 32 patients of the Surgical Pathology Service with necrotizing lymphadenitis, diagnosed in the years from 2004 to 2012 to found more cases of this rare disease in our Institution. Patients were 18 women and 14 men with an average age of 37 years. Results: the lymph nodes were cervical and axillary ones, some were associated to autoimmune diseases and no cause was identified in others. One of the cases, was diagnosed as KFD, presented morphological changes characteristic of this disease, such as subcapsular lymphoid follicles, zones with cell debris, epithelioid macrophages, clear-cytoplasm histiocytes, and immunoblast-reactive lymphocytes. Immunohistochemical markers were determined, such as CD20, CD2, CD4, CD8, CD68, lysozyme, CD56, granzyme B and EBER, which demonstrated the presence of B, t lymphocytes, histiocytes and cells positive to EBER. Histological changes in KFD occurred in three stages: proliferative stage, necrotizing, and xanthomatous. It is important to identify the histological stages of the disease because a differential diagnosis must be performed in regard to lymphadenopathies with necrosis and diverse types of lymphomas. Conclusion: We present a case of necrotizing lymphadenitis (KFD) associated to the Epstein-Barr virus and in some cases it is not possible to render a specific diagnosis based on morphologic findings, alone, and a diagnosis of necrotizing lymphadenitis may be used.

Histology involves the observation of structural features in tissues using a *** diffraction-limited optical microscopes are commonly used in histological investigations,their resolving capabilities are insufficient to visualize details at subcellular *** a novel set of super-resolution optical microscopy techniques can fulfill the resolution demands in such cases,the system complexity,high operating cost,lack of multi-modality,and low-throughput imaging of these methods limit their wide adoption for histological *** this study,we introduce the photonic chip as a feasible high-throughput microscopy platform for super-resolution imaging of histological *** cryopreserved ultrathin tissue sections of human placenta,mouse kidney,pig heart,and zebrafish eye retina prepared by the tokuyasu method,we demonstrate diverse imaging capabilities of the photonic chip including total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy,intensity fluctuation-based optical nanoscopy,single-molecule localization microscopy,and correlative light-electron *** results validate the photonic chip as a feasible imaging platform for tissue sections and pave the way for the adoption of super-resolution high-throughput multimodal analysis of cryopreserved tissue samples both in research and clinical settings.

In this paper we present the nonlinear optical characterization of Au/Pd nanoparticles in order to obtain the nonlinear refractive indices using the z-scan technique. the experiments were performed using a 514 nm laser beam Ar+, with 14 Hz of modulation frequency, as excitation source. By using a lens the excitation beam was focused to a small spot and the sample was moved across the focal region along the z-axis by a motorized translation stage. Seven samples with different concentration ratio of Au/Pd nanoparticles were prepared by simultaneous reduction of gold and palladium ions in presence of poly (N-vinyl-2-pirrolidone) (PVP) using ethanol as a reducing agent. In this work, we report the application of the z-scan technique, to generate optical transmission of laser light as a function of the z position for solutions containing bimetallic nanoparticles of Au (core)/Pd (shell) with average sizes ranging from 3 to 5 nm. the magnitude of the obtained nonlinear refractive index was in the order of 10?8 cm2/W. Our results show that the nonlinear refractive index has a nonlinear behavior when the (Au/Pd) ratio was increased.

Babesiosis is a tick-transmitted disease that causes severe economic losses to the cattle industry in Brazil. Water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) are often carriers of Babesia spp., but there are no studies that provide an accurate estimation of this infection in animals raised in regions of endemic stability. this study was conducted to investigate Babesia bovis and B. bigemina infections in 108 water buffaloes (50 calves and 58 adult females) located in areas of São Paulo state, where the animals were continuously exposed to Rhipicephalus microplus ticks. B. bovis and B. bigemina infections were screened by microscopic examination of blood smears, nested PCR (nPCR) and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR), which were also used to estimate the number of copies (NC) of the cytochrome b (mt-cytB) gene in the blood samples. B. bigemina was found in blood smears of three calves from Alambari herd (all with less than 0.1% parasitemia). Molecular techniques were more sensitive than blood smears to diagnose piroplasms in water buffaloes: 20.37% and 100.00% for B. bovis-infected animals and 59.26% and 100.00% for B. bigemina-infected animals, respectively for nPCR and qPCR. the NC of mt-cytB gene of B. bovis and B. bigemina in blood samples revealed significant effects (p p ≤ 0.05) for B. bigemina (2.80 ± 0.06) than for B. bovis (2.61 ± 0.05). Within each herd-age, differences between the species’ NC values were found only in Alambari calves, which showed significantly higher (p ≤ 0.05) NC of B. bigemina (3.48 ± 0.13). the calves and cows from Ibaté showed the lowest NC of B. bigemina (2.29 ± 0.13 and 2.63 ± 0.14) and B. bovis (2.54 ± 0.11 and 2.37 ± 0.12), respectively. these data suggest a high prevalence of B. bovis and B. bigemina infection in the buffalo population in endemic areas of São Paulo state.
