This study investigates the development of novel montmorillonite/castor oil blends to formulate sustainable lubricating greases to promote the replacement of petrochemicals industry-derived materials by substances obtained from renewable ***,the effect of the thickener concentration on the rheological,chemical,thermal,tribological properties,and atomic force microscopy(AFM)microstructure of these systems were *** results showed that the C20A nanoclay content could be used to modulate the viscosity values,the linear viscoelastic functions,and tribological properties of these montmorillonite *** general,these gel-like dispersions exhibited remarkable lubricant properties;the samples showed values of the friction coefficient and wear scars similar or lower than those obtained with model bentonite grease.

Habitat selection is a dynamic process that depends on many environmental variables that can vary with weather *** is important because,within a context of global change,extreme weather events,such as severe droughts,are predicted to become more *** examined the patterns of microhabitat selection and underground movements(using PIT-tag telemetry)of a strictly fossorial reptile,the north African checkboard amphisbaenian Trogonophis wiegmanni,during the summer drought *** aimed to test whether changes in strategies of habitat use and movements could allow this amphisbaenian to cope with unfavorable *** found that during the summer drought period,*** did not use the microhabitats in relationship to their availability,but particularly selected sites with high abundance of rocks but also areas under a high cover of bushes,where environmental conditions were more *** also found,using PIT-tag telemetry,that the numbers of *** individuals located under rocks and their activity(number of days with movements)decreased largely in ***,the animals were not entirely inactive,but,especially males were active below the ground under bushes and made some relatively long underground hidden movements between favorable areas.

Melanin is the basis of coloration in many animals,and although it is often used in communication,thermoregulation,or camouflage,melanin has many other physiological *** example,in polluted habitats,melanin can have a detoxifying *** coloration would help to sequester in the skin the heavy metal contaminants from inside the body,which will be expelled to the exterior when the skin is ***,animals should have evolved more melanic colorations in more polluted habitats(“industrial melanism”hypothesis).We examined whether the fossorial amphisbaenian reptile,Trogonophis wiegmanni,is able to eliminate heavy metals,derived from soil pollution by seagull depositions,through sloughing its *** results suggest a covariation between levels of soil pollution by heavy metals and the concentration of heavy metals in the sloughed skins of *** suggests that amphisbaenians may expel heavy metals from their bodies when they slough the *** also tested whether amphisbaenians inhabiting soils with higher levels of heavy metal pollution had darker(melanin-dependent)body ***,contrary to predictions from the“industrial melanization”hypothesis,we found a negative relationship between soil pollution and proportions of melanic *** contradictory result could,however,be explained because heavy metals have endocrine disruption effects that increase physiological stress,and higher stress levels could result in decreased *** suggest that although amphisbaenians might have some detoxifying mechanism linked to melanin in the skin,this process might be negatively affected by stress and result ineffective under conditions of high soil pollution.

The adequacy of language education largely depends on the favorable and unfavorable emotions that teachers and students experience throughout the education *** said,emotional factors play a key role in improving the quality of language teaching and ***,these emotional factors also promote the well-being of language teachers and learners and place them in a suitable mental *** view of the favorable impact of emotional factors on the mental health of language teachers and learners,many educational scholars around the world have studied these factors,their background,and their pedagogical ***,the majority of previous studies have employed traditional research methods in assessing these variables and their inﬂuences on language teachers’and learners’mental *** of the complex and dynamic quality of emotional factors,traditional research approaches often fail to evaluate these factors and their dynamic,non-linear connections with teachers’and learners’mental health and ***,some novel research approaches are required to measure the dynamicity and complexity of emotional factors in language education *** address this call,the current state-of-the-art conceptual article seeks to provide new insights for investigating emotional factors and their potential impact on language teachers’and learners’mental *** study also intends to offer a comprehensive list of emerging methods that take into account the complex and dynamic nature of emotional ***,the study outlines the potential implications of this review for educational researchers.

Testosterone secretion may regulate the reproductive effort and the development of sexual traits,but it may also involve costs at the immunological and metabolic ***,the evidence for this trade-off in wild populations is *** also plays an important role in mediating the reproductive and immune *** this study,we analyzed whether the endoparasite burden relates to hormonal levels(fecal testosterone and cortisol metabolites)and/or morphological sexual traits(size of the dark ventral patch,a trait that indicates reproductive effort in males)in male Iberian red *** this purpose,we sampled male red deer harvested during hunting actions in 2 types of populations in south western Spain that differed in structure,affecting the level of male–male competition for *** used coprological analyses to estimate the parasite burden mainly of gastrointestinal and bronchopulmonary nematodes and of protozoa,and assessed testosterone and cortisol metabolite levels from fecal *** found a positive relationship of host parasitation with both testosterone levels and the size of the dark ventral patch,but these relationships depended on the intensity of male–male competition in the population,being only found under the high-competition *** results are discussed under the hypothesis of the testosterone immunocompetence handicap,suggesting a cost at the immunological level,and,therefore,higher susceptibility to parasite infection in males that make a greater reproductive ***,this effect seems to be modulated by the social environment(male–male competition)that might lead to different optima in testosterone production and sexual trait development.

Arid climates are characterized by a summer drought period to which animals seem ***,in some years,the drought can extend for unusually longer *** the effects of these current extreme weather events on biodiversity can help to understand the effects of climate change,as models predict an increase in drought ***,we examined the effects of“unusual”extended drought on soil invertebrate prey availability and on diet composition(based on fecal contents)and diet selection of a fossorial amphisbaenian,the checkerboard worm lizard Trogonophis *** data show interannual variations in summer drought *** abundance and diversity of soil invertebrates in spring were high,and similar to those found in a“normal”early autumn,after some rain had ended with the summer *** contrast,in years with“unusual”extended drought,abundance,and diversity of soil invertebrates in early autumn were very ***,there were seasonal changes in amphisbaenians’diet;in autumn with drought,prey diversity,and niche breadth decreased with respect to spring and autumns after some rain had *** did not eat prey at random in any season,but made some changes in prey selection that may result from drought-related restrictions in prey ***,in spite that amphisbaenians showed some feeding flexibility,their body condition was lower in autumn than in spring,and much lower in autumn with *** extended drought became the norm in the future,amphisbaenians might suffer important negative effects for their health state.

The treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) of colorectal origin with cytoreductive surgery(CRS) plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has a 5-year recurrence-free or cure rate of at least 16%, so it is no longer labeled as a fatal disease, and offers prolonged survival for patients with a low peritoneal carcinomatosis index. Metachronous PC of colorectal origin is so predictable that there is a model which has been used to successfully determine the individual risk of each patient. Patients at risk are clearly identified; those with the highest risk have small peritoneal nodules present in the first surgery (70% probability of developing PC), ovarian metastases(60%), perforated tumor onset or intraoperative tumor rupture(50%). Current clinical, biological and imaging techniques still lack sufficient sensitivity to diagnose PC in its initial stages, when CRS plus HIPEC has a greater impact and a higher cure rate. Second-look surgery with HIPEC or prophylactic HIPEC at the time of the first intervention have been proposed as means of preventing and/or anticipating clinical or radiological relapse in at-risk patients. Both techniques have shown a significant decrease in peritoneal relapses and should be considered essential weapons in the management of colorectal cancer.

The variation in temperature on the island of Gran Canaria is studied using the method applied to the nearby island of Tenerife [1]. An upward warming trend of 0.09°C ± 0.05°C (α = 0.01) was seen from 1946 to date, which has accelerated since the seventies to 0.17°C ± 0.10°C (α = 0.01). The increase was higher at night (0.11°C ± 0.05°C) than by day (0.08°C ± 0.06°C), so the temperature range decreased slightly. These values are similar to those of Tenerife and the time series of anomalies for the two islands are highly correlated. On the coast the same relationship to the sea surface temperature was found as in Tenerife, but in the mid-altitude areas to windward, some differences were detected that are hypothetically attributable to the different relief of the two islands.
