Dengue is a global health problem without current specific treatment nor safe vaccines *** severe dengue is related to pre-existing non-neutralizing dengue virus(DENV)antibodies,the role of T cells in protection or pathology is *** cutaneous DENV infection in immunocompetent mice we previously showed the generation of PNA+germinal centers(GCs),now we assessed the activation and proliferation of B and T cells in draining lymph nodes(DlNs).We found a drastic remodelling of DlN compartments from 7 to 14 days post-infection(dpi)with greatly enlarged B cell follicles,occupying almost half of the DlN area compared to*24%in na?ve *** clusters of proliferating(Ki-67+)cells inside B follicles were found 14 dpi,representing*33%of B cells in DlNs but only*2%in noninfected *** GCs,we noticed an important recruitment of tingle body macrophages removing apoptotic *** contrast,the percentage of paracortex area and total T cells decreased by 14–16 dpi,compared to *** randomly distributed Ki-67+T cells were found,similar to non-infected ***69 expression by CD4+and CD8+T cells was minor,while it was remarkable in B cells,representing 1764.7%of change from basal levels 3 *** apparent lack of T cell responses cannot be attributed to apoptosis since no significant differences were observed compared to noninfected *** study shows massive B cell activation and proliferation in DlNs upon DENV *** contrast,we found very poor,almost absent CD4+and CD8+T cell responses.

Background:The search for alternatives to antibiotics in pig production has increased the interest in natural resources with antimicrobial properties,such as medium-chain fatty acids(MCFA)as in-feed *** study evaluated the potential of a novel blend of MCFA salts(DIC)from distilled coconut oil with a lauric acid content to reduce enteropathogens and control intestinal diseases around *** experimental disease models were implemented in early-weaned piglets,consisting of two oral challenges:salmonella Typhimurium(1.2×10~8 CFU)or enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC)F4(1.5×10~9 CFU).The parameters assessed were:animal performance,clinical signs,pathogen excretion,intestinal fermentation,immune-inflammatory response,and intestinal ***:The salmonella challenge promoted an acute course of diarrhea,with most of the parameters responding to the challenge,whereas the ETEC F4 challenge promoted a mild clinical course.A consistent antipathogenic effect of DIC was observed in both trials in the hindgut,with reductions in salmonella *** counts in the cecum(P=0.03)on d 8 post-inoculation(PI)(salmonella trial),and of enterobacteria and total coliform counts in the ileum and colon(Pl).When analyzing the entire colonic microbiota(16 s rRNA gene sequencing),this additive tended(P=0.13)to reduce the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and enriched Fibrobacteres after the salmonella *** the ETEC F4 challenge,DIC prompted structural changes in the ecosystem with increases in Dialister,and a trend(P=0.14)to increase the Veillonellaceae *** parameters such as the intestinal fermentation products or serum pro-inflammatory mediators were not modified by DIC supplementation,nor were the histological *** the intraepithelial lymphocyte(IEl)counts were lowered by DIC in animals challenged with salmonella(P=0.07).With ETEC F4,the IEl counts were higher with DIC on d 8 PI(P=0.08).Conclusions:This study c

The interest in thermoplastic starch(TPs)as a substitute material to replace conventional thermoplastics continues especially due its biodegradability,availability,low cost and because it is obtained from renewable ***,its poor mechanical properties and its high sensitivity to humidity have limited its use in several ***,the copolymer poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol)(EVOH),with two different ethylene contents,27 and 44 mol%were blended with TPs by extrusion in order to overcome these *** obtained blends were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),differential scanning calorimetry(DsC),mechanical tensile testing,scanning Electron Microscopy(sEM)and moisture absorption *** addition of EVOH copolymer did not significantly changed the thermal stability of TPs,however it increased the tensile strength in 65%when compared to *** morphology of the blends did not showed two distinct phases,an indication of miscibility or partial miscibility of the components.A decrease of moisture absorption was obtained by the addition of EVOH and is more pronounced for the EVOH with 44% of ethylene.

Allogeneic blood transfusion (ABT) is frequently used as the first therapeutic option for the treatment of acute anaemia in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially when it developed due to gastrointestinal or perioperative blood loss, but is not risk-free. Adverse effects of ABT include, but are not limited to, acute hemolytic reaction (wrong blood or wrong patient), febrile non-hemolytic transfusional reaction, bacterial contamination, transfusion-related acute lung injury, transfusion associated circulatory overload, transfusion-related immuno-modulation, and transmission of almost all infectious diseases (bacteria, virus, protozoa and prion), which might result in increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, the main physiological goal of ABT, i.e. to increase oxygen consumption by the hypoxic tissues, has not been well documented. In contrast, the ABT is usually misused only to increase the haemoglobin level within a f ixed protocol [mostly two by two packed red blood cell (PRC) units] independently of the patient' s tolerance to normovolemic anaemia or his clinical response to the transfusion of PRC units according to a "one-by-one" administration schedule. Evidencebased clinical guidelines may promote best transfusion practices by implementing restrictive transfusion protocols, thus reducing variability and minimizing the avoidable risks of transfusion, and the use of autologous blood and pharmacologic alternatives. In this regard, preoperative autologous blood donation (PABD) consistently diminished the frequency of ABT, although its contribution to ABT avoidance is reduced when performed under a transfusion protocol. In addition, interpretation of utility of PABD in surgical IBD patients is hampered by scarcity of published data. However, the role of autologous red blood cells as drug carriers is promising. No-tillage and soil mulching with pruning residues,applied in olive groves of the semi-arid Mediter-ranean environment,as erosion control practices still practice not fully *** study has evaluated the saturated hydraulic conductivity(Ksat),surface runoff(sR)and soil erosion(sl)under rainfall at plot scale throughout two years in four different management practices,total soil cover with a net(sP),mechanical tillage(MT)and mulching by vegetal residues at 3,5·10^(3) and 17,5·10^(3) kg ha^(-1) of dry matter(NTR350 and NTR1750),in an olive grove of southern *** varied between 1.6(MT)and 25.1(NTR1750)mm/h.A clear reduction in runoff and soil losses was detected for the mulch-based practices when compared to MT,from 20 to 32%in the runoff coefficient and 75-80%in sl,with higher reductions in the *** reduction in sl can be mainly explained by the reduction in sR and rain-splash,interrill and rill erosion,due to protection by mulch residues,which increased the vegetal cover and organic matter content of mulched *** vegetal cover was on average higher in sP(33%),NTR1750(25%)and NTR350(22%),and lower in MT(12%).The mean organic matter content of soil was 2.01%,1.69%,1.34%and 0.82%for NTR1750,NTR350,sP and MT ***,the results quantify the impact of soil mulching with pruning residues at different doses,which will provide guidelines to control and mitigate the hydrological response of clayey and steep soils in Mediterranean olive groves,analysing the associated environmental and economic benefits.
