In this review we study the nuclear pastas as they are expected to be formed in neutron star *** start with a study of the pastas formed in nuclear matter(composed of protons and neutrons),we follow with the role of the electron gas on the formation of pastas,and we then investigate the pastas in neutron star matter(nuclear matter embedded in an electron gas).Nuclear matter(NM)at intermediate temperatures(1 MeV≤T≤***),at saturation and and sub-saturation densities,and with proton content ranging from 30%to 50%was found to have liquid,gaseous and liquid-gas mixed *** isospin-dependent phase diagram was obtained along with the critical points,and the symmetry energy was calculated and compared to experimental data and other *** low temperatures(T≤1 MeV)NM produces crystal-like structures around satura-tion densities,and pasta-like structures at sub-saturation *** of the pasta structures were studied with cluster-recognition algorithms,caloric curve,the radial distribution function,the lindemann coefficient,Kolmogorov statistics,Minkowski functionals;the symmetry energy of the pasta showed a connection with its *** star matter(NSM)is nuclear matter embedded in an electron *** electron gas is included in the calculation by the inclusion of an screened Coulomb *** connect the NM pastas with those in neutron star matter(NSM),the role the strength and screening length of the Coulomb interaction have on the formation of the pastas in NM was *** was found to exist even without the presence of the electron gas,but the effect of the Coulomb interaction is to form more defined pasta structures,among other ***,it was determined that there is a minimal screening length for the developed structures to be independent of the cell *** star matter was found to have similar phases as NM,phase transitions,symmetry energy,structure function and thermal *** in NM,pasta f

Kinetic behaviour of commercial catalysts for methane reforming in ethanol steam reforming process

Ethanol steam reforming has been studied in a fluidized bed （in order to ensure bed isothermicity） on commercial catalysts for methane reforming. The results allow analyzing the effect of temperature （in 300-700℃ range）, and both metal and support nature on the reaction indices （ethanol conversion, yields and selectivities to H2 and byproducts （CO2, CO, CH4 and C2H4O））. Special attention has been paid to catalysts＇ stability by comparing the evolution of the reaction indices with time on stream at 500°C （minimum CO formation） and 700℃ （minimum deactivation by coke deposition）. Although they provide a slightly lower H2 yield, the results evidence a good behaviour of Ni based catalysts, indicating that they are an interesting alternative of more expensive Rh based ones.

Bacille-Calmette-Guerin modulates human macrophage and dendritic cell response to SARS-CoV-2 S-glycoprotein

Background:Given that epidemiological evidence suggests a potential protective role for Bacille-Calmette-Guerin against COVID-19,we aimed to explore whether pre-exposure of human monocyte-derived macrophages and dendritic cells to BCG could modulate their response to SARS-CoV-2 ***:Dual THP-1 cells containing 2 reporter plasmids for transcription factors NF-κB,and IRF were differ-entiated into macrophages over 3 days using phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate,or into dendritic cells over 6 days using commercial monocyte-dencritic cell differentiation media and matured with recombinant tumor necrosis factor-α.Cells were exposed to BCG for 24 h and then stimulated with SARS-CoV-2 S-glycoprotein for 24 ***:Pre-exposure of human macrophages and DCs to BCG increased IRF and NF-kb activation in response to the SARS-CoV-2 ***:Our results showed that pre-exposure of both types of cells to BCG exhibited an increase in inflam-matory transcription factors upon stimulation with ***-induced trained immunity may be an important tool for reducing susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection and severity of *** findings help in the design of future BCG-based therapeutic approaches in the treatment of diseases caused by viral infections.

Influence of flooding and vegetation on carbon,nitrogen,and phosphorus dynamics in the pore water of a Spartina alterniflora salt marsh

Four sites were selected in a salt marsh in the Bahia Blanca Estuary （Argentina）：（1） low marsh （flooded by the tide twice daily） vegetated by S. alterniflora; （2） non-vegetated low marsh; （3） high marsh （flooded only in spring tides） vegetated by S. alterniflora; （4） non-vegetated high marsh. The pH and Eh were measured in sediments, while dissolved nutrients （ammonium, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate） and particulate organic matter （POM） were determined in pore water, pH （6.2-8.7） was only affected by vegetation in low areas. Eh （from -300 to 250 mV） was lower at low sites than at high ones; in the latter, the values were higher in the non-vegetated sediments. The POM concentration was greater in the high marsh than in the low marsh, with no effect of vegetation. Ammonium was the most abundant nitrogen nutrient species in pore water, except in the non-vegetated high marsh where nitrate concentration was higher. All nitrogen nutrients were affected by both flooding and vegetation. Phosphate was always present in pore water at all sites throughout the year and its concentration varied within narrow limits, with no effect of flooding and greater values always at non-vegetated sites. Our results showed that the variability of the pore water composition within the marsh is greater than the temporal variation, meaning that both tidal flooding and vegetation are important in the dynamics of nutrients and organic matter in the sediment pore water.

The success of catalytic schemes for the large-scale valorization of CO_(2) does not only depend on the development of active,selective and stable catalytic materials but also on the overall process *** we present a multidisciplinary study(from catalyst to plant and techno-economic/lifecycle analysis)for the production of green methanol from renewable H2 and CO_(2).We combine an in-depth kinetic analysis of one of the most promising recently reported methanol-synthesis catalysts(InCo)with a thorough process simulation and techno-economic *** then perform a life cycle assessment of the simulated process to gauge the real environmental impact of green methanol production from CO_(2).Our results indicate that up to 1.75 ton of CO_(2) can be abated per ton of produced methanol only if renewable energy is used to run the process,while the sensitivity analysis suggest that either rock-bottom H2 prices(1.5$kg1)or severe CO_(2) taxation(300$per ton)are needed for a profitable methanol ***,we herein highlight and analyze some critical bottlenecks of the *** attention has been paid to the contribution of H2 to the overall plant costs,CH4 trace formation,and purity and costs of raw *** addition to providing important information for policy makers and industrialists,directions for catalyst(and therefore process)improvements are outlined.

For many years finite element method(FEM)was the chosen numerical method for the analysis of composite ***,in the last 20 years,the scientific community has witnessed the birth and development of several meshless methods,which are more flexible and equally accurate numerical *** meshless method used in this work is the natural neighbour radial point interpolation method(NNRPIM).In order to discretize the problem domain,the NNRPIM only requires an unstructured nodal ***,using the Voronoi mathematical concept,it enforces the nodal connectivity and constructs the background integration *** NNRPIM shape functions are constructed using the radial point interpolation *** this work,the displacement field of composite laminated plates is defined by high-order shear deformation *** the end,several antisymmetric cross-ply laminates were analysed and the NNRPIM solutions were compared with the *** obtained results show the efficiency and accuracy of the NNRPIM formulation.

Creating multiferroic and conductive domain walls in common ferroelastic compounds

Domain walls in ferroelectrics and ferroelastics often present peculiar functional properties,offering an intriguing route toward the design of *** we use first-principles simulations to illustrate an approach for engineering such walls,working with representative ferroelastic perovskites laGaO_(3) and CaTiO_(3)(insulating,non-magnetic,non-polar).We show that a wide range of substitutional dopants can be used to create long-range-ordered structures confined within the walls of these compounds,yielding functional interfaces with tailor-made *** thus identify clear-cut strategies to produce metallic walls within an insulating ***,we find ways to create magnetic walls that also display ferroelectric order(proper or improper),thus providing an original route to obtain magnetoelectric *** the recent developments on the preparation of high-density domain structures in perovskite films,our results suggest a definite path toward new functional nano-materials.

In an aging society with persistent high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the elderly population, the health care system is facing an increasing challenge to effectively care for these patients. However, due to the under- representation of CVD patients over 75 years of age in clinical trials, assessing safety and efficacy of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, the evidence for managing elderly CVD patients is especially limited. Physiological changes of aging intertwined with pathophysiology of CVD, and comorbid conditions often complicate clinical management. With the rapid adoption in older patients of invasive cardiovascular procedures, such as percutaneous coronary intervention and trans-catheter aortic valve replacement, the magnitude of this challenge is increasing. Understanding key aspects of cardiovascular physiology in older adults can serve as a foundation to guide interpretations of clinical presentation, diagnostic responses, formulating therapeutic strategies, and monitoring clinical efficacy in elderly patients with CVD.

An evaluation of mass,number concentration,chemical composition and types of particles in a cafeteria before and after the passage of an antismoking law

This study assessed air quality indicators before and after enactment of the Spanish anti-smoking law. Mass and number concentrations and the chemical composition of particles were evaluated. Microscopy analyses were also conducted. Real time concentrations of PMlo, PM2.s, PM1 and ultrafine particles were measured under ventilated and non-ventilated conditions and PMlo samples were collected for detailed inorganic and organic chemical characterization. Before enactment of the law in 2010, tobacco smoke produced significant indoor ambient particulate matter pollution, with elevated particulate matter mass concentrations （PM10 and PM1 concentrations of 122-220 and 48-85 Dg/m3, respectively） and ultrafine particle numbers （75,000 and 48,000 cm ~ under ventilated and non-ventilated conditions, respectively）. Typical tobacco smoke tracers including iso- and anteiso-alkanes and elements including la and Ce from the ignition of lighters were abundant. Additionally, several toxic substances derived from tobacco smoke, including Cd （3.1 ng/m3） and benzo[a]pyrene （1.0 ng/m3） were present at concentrations approximately 10 times greater than those measured after enactment of the anti-smoking law. The anti-smoking law sig- nificantly reduced exposure to potentially toxic compounds by approximately 90%. This law is expected to have a positive health impact, particularly for people who spend considerable time in affected envi- ronments, such as employees.

The rational design of emulsions requires study of the main factors that influence their formation, physicochemical properties and, consequently, stability and performance. The use of vegetable oils in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries has recently become attractive. Dipteryx alata Vogel(D. alata) is an oleaginous species native to Brazil. The seeds of this species contain highly unsaturated oil with significant amounts of tocopherols and phytosterols, representing an important source of agents capable of combatting oxidative processes. In this work, a lamellar gel phase emulsion using oil extracted from the seeds of D. alata(baru) was developed. The steps involved in the development of this research were as follows: 1) development of formulations and 2) in vitro assays by simulating the evaporation of the final product after application to the skin and Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy(EPR) of fatty acid spin labels was used to investigate the profile of interaction of the dispersed systems with stratum corneum(SC) lipids. The results indicate that the developed system shows no signs of instability during the storage period. Moreover, EPR studies indicated that D. alata oil and especially the developed formulation were able to increase SC lipid fluidity and extract a fatty-acid spin label from the lipid domain structures of SC, demonstrating its potential to act as a drug or skin care vehicle.
