Direct vapor phase growth process and robust photoluminescence properties of large area MoS2 layers

There has been growing research interest in the use of molybdenum disulfide in the fields of optoelectronics and energy harvesting devices, by virtue of its indirect-to-direct band gap tunability. However, obtaining large area thin films of MoS2 for future device applications still remains a challenge. In the present study, the amounts of the precursors （S and MOO3） were varied systematically in order to optimize the growth of highly crystalline and large area MoS2 layers by the chemical vapor deposition method. Careful control of the amounts of precursors was found to the key factor in the synthesis of large area highly crystalline flakes. The thickness of the layers was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The optical properties and chemical composition were studied by photoluminescence （PL） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The emergence of strong direct excitonic emissions at 1.82 eV （A-exciton, with a normalized PL intensity of -55 × 10^3） and 1.98 eV （B-exciton, with a normalized PL intensity of -5 × 10^3） of the sample at room temperature clearly indicates the high luminescence quantum efficiency. The mobility of the films was found to be 0.09 cm^2/（V.s） at room temperature. This study provides a method for the controlled synthesis of high-quality two-dimensional （2D） transition metal dichalcogenide materials, useful for applications in nanodevices, optoelectronics and solar energv conversion.

Atomic layer infiltration technology allows the formation of a nanometer-thick polymer-inorganic hybrid barrier layer in polymer material for flexible organic light-emitting diode(OLED)*** this study,according to transmission electron microscopy and secondary-ion mass spectrometry analysis results under various process conditions,a compact polymer-inorganic hybrid nanolayer was successfully formed in a polymer and good barrier performance was revealed with a low water vapor transmission rate under optimal process ***,through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry measurements after ultra-violet radiation testing,polymer out-gassing decreased compared to bare *** on barrier properties,the polymer with a polymer-inorganic hybrid barrier nanolayer was applied to a flexible OLED display as a *** storage tests and folding tests,the flexible OLED display exhibits good reliability and better flexibility compared to those with an inorganic barrier *** results confirm that the polymer-inorganic hybrid nanolayer is suitable for barrier layer formation in flexible OLED displays.

As global air pollution becomes increasingly severe,various types of fibrous filters have been developed to improve air filter ***,fibrous filters have limitations such as high packing density that generally causes high-pressure drop and ultimately deterioration in the filtration ***-pressure particulate matter precipitators are limited in terms of scope for commercialization because they require high voltage supplies and ozone *** this study,we develop fibrous filters with enhanced durability and improved performance using metallized microfibers decorated with metal-organic-framework(MOF)*** only does the efficiency of the developed filters remain at or above 97%for 0.50-1.5μm PMs but the durability also significantly *** addition,using the water purification ability of the MOF,we explore the dye degradation effect of the hybrid microfibers by immersing them into Rhodamine B aqueous *** such an experiment the Rhodamine B aqueous solution is completely purified by the presence of the hybrid microfibers under the UV irradiation.

The effect of diet-induced insulin resistance on DNA methylation of the androgen receptor promoter in the penile cavernosal smooth muscle of mice

Population studies have suggested an association between diabetes and the symptoms of testosterone deficiency. Recently, the expression of the androgen receptor （AR） has been shown to be decreased in diabetic patients. Furthermore, diabetes has been shown to induce global methylation. In this study, we used an animal model to investigate whether diabetes results in increased methylation of the AR promoter and whether these changes are associated with the decreased expression of AR in penile cavernosal smooth muscle tissue. Twenty C57BL/6J mice were divided into two groups, receiving either high- （mature diabetic） or low- （mature control） caloric meals for 14 weeks. Another 10 mice were killed at 1 week （young control）. Animals in the mature diabetic group showed decreased testosterone levels, although this was not statistically significant. In both control groups, no significant methylation was observed in the AR promoter region CpG island （-85 to ＋339）. In the mature diabetic group, significant methylation was observed at ＋ 185 and ＋200 of the AR promoter. These changes were associated with increased homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance （HOMA-IR） and decreased corpus cavernosal tissue mass and expression of AR mRNA and protein. We conclude that in these animals, insulin resistance increased the methylation of the GC-rich regions of the AR promoter, leading to decreased AR expression.

Curvature range measurements of the arcuate fasciculus using diffusion tensor tractography

Because Broca＇s area and Wernicke＇s area in the brain are connected by the arcuate fasciculus, understanding the anatomical location and morphometry of the arcuate fasciculus can help in the treatment of patients with aphasia. We measured the horizontal and vertical curvature ranges of the arcuate fasciculus in both hemispheres in 12 healthy subjects using diffusion tensor tractography. In the right hemisphere, the direct curvature range and indirect curvature range values of the arcuate fasciculus horizontal part were 121.13 ± 5.89 and 25.99 ± 3.01 degrees, respectively, and in the left hemisphere, the values were 121.83 ± 5.33 and 27.40 ± 2.96 degrees, respectively. In the right hemisphere, the direct curvature range and indirect curvature range values of the arcuate fasciculus vertical part were 43.97 ± 7.98 and 30.15 ± 3.82 degrees, respectively, and in the left hemisphere, the values were 39.39 ± 4.42 and 24.08 ± 4.34 degrees, respectively. We believe that the measured curvature ranges are important data for localization and quantitative assessment of specific neuronal pathways in patients presenting with arcuate fasciculus abnormalities.

Is two-stage reimplantation effective for virulent pathogenic infection in a periprosthetic hip? A retrospective analysis

AIM: To investigate the effectiveness of two-stage reimplantation using antibiotic-loaded bone cement(ALBC) and the risk factors associated with failure to control periprosthetic joint infection(PJI).METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 38 consecutive hips managed using two-stage reimplantation with ALBC. The mean follow-up period was 5.4 years(range: 2.5-9 years). RESULTS: The causative pathogens were isolated from 29 patients(76%), 26 of whom were infected with highly virulent organisms. Sixteen patients(42%) underwent at least two first-stage debridements. An increased debridement frequency correlated significantly with high comorbidity(P < 0.001), a lower preoperative Harris hip score(HHS; P < 0.001), antimicrobial resistance, and gram-negative and polymicrobial infection(P = 0.002). Of the 35 patients who underwent two-stage reimplantation, 34 showed no signs of recurrence of infection. The mean HHS improved from 46 ± 12.64 to 78 ± 10.55 points, with 7(20%), 12(34%), 11(32%)and 5(14%) patients receiving excellent, good, fair and poor ratings, respectively. CONCLUSION: The current study demonstrated that two-stage reimplantation could successfully treat PJI after hip arthroplasty. However, the ability of ALBC to eradicate infection was limited because frequent debridement was required in high-risk patients(i.e., patients who are either in poor general health due to associated comorbidities or harbor infections due to highly virulent, difficult-to-treat organisms). Background: Autophagy is elevated in metastatic tumors and is often associatedwith active epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). However, the extent towhich EMT is dependent on autophagy is largely unknown. This study aimed toidentify the mechanisms by which autophagy facilitates ***: We employed a liquid chromatography-based metabolomic approachwith kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene (KRAS) and liver kinase B1 (LKB1)gene co-mutated (KL) cells that represent an autophagy/EMT-coactivatedinvasive lung cancer subtype for the identification of metabolites linked to autophagy-driven EMT activation. Molecular mechanisms of autophagy-drivenEMT activation were further investigated by quantitative real-time polymerasechain reaction (qRT-PCR), Western blotting analysis, immunoprecipitation,immunofluorescence staining, and metabolite assays. The effects of chemicaland genetic perturbations on autophagic flux were assessed by two orthogonalapproaches: microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain 3 (LC3) turnoveranalysis by Western blotting and monomeric red fluorescent protein-greenfluorescent protein (mRFP-GFP)-LC3 tandem fluorescent protein quenchingassay.
