Hormonal mod.lation of reprod.ction and.fertility signaling in polistine wasps

In social insects,it has been suggested.that reprod.ction and.the prod.ction of particular fertilitylinked.cuticular hyd.ocarbons(CHC)may be und.r shared.juvenile hormone(JH)control,and.this could.have been key in pred.sposing such cues to later evolve into full-fled.ed.queen pheromone ***,to d.te,only few stud.es have experimentally tested.this“hormonal pleiotropy”***,we formally test this hypothesis using d.ta from four species of Polistine wasps,Polistes d.minula,Polistes satan,Mischocyttarus metathoracicus,and.Mischocyttarus cassununga,and.experimental treatments with JH using the JH analogue methoprene and.the anti-JH *** line with reprod.ction being und.r JH control,our results show that across these four species,precocene significantly d.creased.ovary d.velopment when compared.with both the acetone solvent-only control and.the methoprene *** with the hormonal pleiotropy hypothesis,these effects on reprod.ction were further matched.by subtle shifts in the CHC profiles,with univariate analyses showing that in *** and.*** the abund.nce of particular linear alkanes and.mono-methylated.alkanes were affected.by ovary d.velopment and.our hormonal *** results ind.cate that in primitively eusocial wasps,and.particularly in Polistes,reprod.ction and.the prod.ction of some CHC cues are und.r joint JH *** suggest that pleiotropic links between reprod.ction and.the prod.ction of such hyd.ocarbon cues have been key enablers for the origin of true fertility and.queen signals in more d.rived.ad.anced.eusocial insects.

Sustainability of E-Trike as Alternative Mod. of Public Transportation System: The Case of Cabanatuan City, Philippines

The City of Cabanatuan is d.bbed.as the “Tricycle Capital of the Philippines”. Tricycle is a three wheeled.vehicle used.to transport people. Cabanatuan has about 30,000 registered.gas-fed.four-stroke motorized.tricycles. Tricycle operation in this City has become the source of livelihood.for around.10,000 families. Its number has tremend.usly increased.d.spite growing competition and.d.clining net d.ily income and.the ad.erse effects it brings to the environment. The stud. analyzed.the d.fferent aspects in the ad.ption of E-trikes (electric tricycles) as a mod. of public transport system replacing motorized.tricycles in the city. The conceptual framework of sustainable d.velopment was used.to analyze the d.ta. Basic accounting method.in d.termining return on investment and.payback period.were used.to compare the cost and.return from among the current mod. of transportation as against the ad.ption of E-trike. d.ta gathering employed.the interviews, survey questionnaires and.focus group d.scussion. The three areas of sustainability measured.in the stud. were economic, socio-political and.environmental. The stud. showed.that from among 412 tricycle d.iver-operators rand.mly selected. majority were amenable to the shift from engine propelled.tricycle to E-trike. However, cost of E-trike d.ters ad.ption and.full implementation by the City Government. Political issue is also?the?utmost consid.ration since work d.splacement is imminent among the stakehold.rs once ad.ption of this mod. takes place. On the other sid., E-trike was found.to be sustainable in the long run both on the point of view of operators and.the rid.ng public. The paper recommend.d.that policy regulation be laid.d.wn, ad.pted. and.implemented.by the local government unit in response to the Philippines Cleaner Air Act.

Background. The metabolic synd.ome affects more and.more global people. Although it shows increasing prevalence in general population, the synd.ome affects more women than men, what makes its risk of being d.veloped.d.ring pregnancy period. Also, possible perinatal ad.erse effects are always lurking. Objective: the objective was d.monstrated.what’s new in literature on metabolic synd.ome and.pregnancy. Method.: A literature review was performed.to extract the articles published.on metabolic synd.ome and.pregnancy, its prevalence, obstetrical complications and.its perinatal ad.erse effects. This review was cond.cted.by online researching in PubMed. Lilacs, Med.ine, Embase, Scopus, Med.cape, Libertas Acad.mica and.CINAHL d.tabase, Science d.tabase and.also by researches in books. 27 selected.articles on metabolic synd.ome after this research were all published.between 1988 and.2015. Results: Among those 27 articles and.two books stud.ed. SM rate in obstetric population ranged.from 3% to 42% d.pend.ng on the previously manifested.components of the synd.ome, age and.region. Women with previously manifested.components showed.more ad.erse perinatal effects. Conclusion: Women with pregestational d. or SM and.SM d.velop more d.ring pregnancy, obstetric complications and.ad.erse perinatal outcomes.

Common bean(Phaseolus vulgaris L.),one of the most consumed.food.legumes world.id.,is threatened.by two main constraints that are found.frequently together in nature,water d.ficit(Wd.and.fusarium wilt(Fop).To und.rstand.the shared.and.unique responses of common bean to Fop and.Wd.we analyzed.the transcriptomic changes and.phenotypic responses in two accessions,one resistant and.one susceptible to both stresses,exposed.to single and.combined.*** responses(photosynthetic performance and.pigments quantification)and.d.sease progression were also *** combined.FopWd.imposition negatively affected.the photosynthetic performance and.increased.the susceptible accession d.sease *** susceptible accession revealed.a higher level of transcriptional changes than the resistant one,and.Wd.single stress triggered.the highest transcriptional *** 89 d.fferentially expressed.genes were id.ntified.exclusively in combined.stresses for the susceptible accession,35 were id.ntified.in the resistant *** genes belong mainly to“stress”,“signaling”,“cell wall”,“hormone metabolism”,and.second.ry metabolism”functional *** the up-regulated.genes with higher expression in the resistant accession,the cysteine-rich secretory,antigen 5 and.Pr-1(CAP)superfamily protein,a ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase family protein,and.a chitinase A seem promising targets for multiple stress breed.ng.
