Microeukaryotes and bacteria are key drivers of primary productivity and nutrient cycling in aquaculture *** their diversity and composition have been widely investigated in aquaculture systems,the co-occurrence bipartite network between microeukaryotes and bacteria remains poorly *** study used the bipartite network analysis of high-throughput sequencing datasets to detect the co-occurrence relationships between microeukaryotes and bacteria in water and sediment from coastal aquaculture *** and fungi were dominant phyla in the microeukaryotic–bacterial bipartite networks in water and sediment,*** also had overrepresented links with bacteria in *** microeukaryotes and bacteria were classified as generalists,and tended to have symmetric positive and negative links with bacteria in both water and ***,some microeukaryotes with high density of links showed asymmetric links with bacteria in *** detection in the bipartite network indicated that four microeukaryotes and twelve uncultured bacteria might be potential keystone taxa among the module ***,the microeukaryotic–bacterial bipartite network in sediment harbored significantly more nestedness than that in *** loss of microeukaryotes and generalists will more likely lead to the collapse of positive co-occurrence relationships between microeukaryotes and bacteria in both water and *** study unveils the topology,dominant taxa,keystone species,and robustness in the microeukaryotic–bacterial bipartite networks in coastal aquaculture *** species herein can be applied for further management of ecological services,and such knowledge may also be very useful for the regulation of other eutrophic ecosystems.

Molecular Phylogeny of the Philippine Endemic Genus <i>Antherostele</i>Bremek. (Rubiaceae) Inferred from ITS Data (nrDNA) and Its Conservation Status

Antherostele Bremek. is an understudied genus of Rubiaceae endemic to the Philippines formerly comprising four species of shrubs or small trees distributed in Luzon and Visayas. In this first molecular study of the genus, the ITS (nrDNA) was utilized to determine the monophyly of Antherostele, reconstruct its phylogeny, and resolve its placement in Rubiaceae. Furthermore, an update on the assessment of its conservation status of the included species in the genus was done. Antherostele is monophyletic and is nested within the tribe Urophylleae of subfamily Rubioideae which confirms its segregation from Urophyllum and its placement within Urophylleae as proposed by earlier authors based on morphology. However, the relationships of Urophylleae members remain unresolved. Antherostele is united by reflexed corolla, hairs on upper side of the corolla lobes and syngenesious stamens. The montane A. luzoniensis with small leaves is found to be sister to the rest of Antherostele species. Antherostele is hypothesized to originate from montane regions and diversified by forming larger leaves following dispersal to the shaded forest understory. From the five species of Antherostele currently recognized in the study, two are endangered (A. banahaensis, A. grandistipula) and three are critically endangered including a new species (A. callophylla, A. luzoniensis, A. sp. nov.) following the criteria of IUCN.

The interaction of sperm with the egg＇s extracellular matrix, the zona pellucida （ZP） is the first step of the union between male and female gametes. The molecular mechanisms of this process have been studied for the past six decades with the results obtained being both interesting and confusing. In this article, we describe our recent work, which attempts to address two lines of questions from previous studies. First, because there are numerous ZP binding proteins reported byvarious researchers, how do these proteins act together in sperm-ZP interaction？ Second, why do a number of acrosomal proteins have ZP affinity？ Are they involved mainly in the initial sperm-ZP binding or rather in anchoring acrosome reacting/reacted spermatozoa to the ZP？ Our studies reveal that a number of ZP binding proteins and chaperones, extracted from the anterior sperm head plasma membrane, coexist as high molecular weight （HMW） complexes, and that these complexes in capacitated spermatozoa have preferential ability to bind to the ZP. Zonadhesin （ZAN）, known as an acrosomal protein with ZP affinity, is one of these proteins in the HMW complexes. Immunoprecipitation indicates that ZAN interacts with other acrosomal proteins, proacrosin/acrosin and sp32 （ACRBP）, also present in the HMW complexes. Immunodetection of ZAN and proacrosin/acrosin on spermatozoa further indicates that both proteins traffic to the sperm head surface during capacitation where the sperm acrosomal matrix is still intact, and therefore they are likely involved in the initial sperm-ZP binding step.

Multiple drug resistant(MDR)and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)have become increasingly prevalent as a community acquired *** a result limited treatment options are available with conventional synthetic *** natural products with potent antimicrobial activity show promise for developing new drugs against this *** this study,we have investigated the antimicrobial activity of a purple violet pigment(PVP)from an Antarctic bacterium,Janthinobacterium ***5-2 on 15 clinical MDR and MRSA *** colorimetric resazurin assay was employed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC90)of PVP against MDR and *** MIC90 ranged between 1.57μg/mL and 3.13μg/mL,which are significantly lower than many antimicrobials tested from natural sources against this *** spectrophotometrically determined growth analysis and total microscopic counts using Live/dead®BacLight™fluorescent stain exhibited a steady decrease in viability of both MDR and MRSA cultures following treatment with PVP at the MIC *** silico predictive molecular docking study revealed that PVP could be a DNA-targeting minor groove binding antimicrobial *** continued development of novel antimicrobials derived from natural sources with the combination of a suite of conventional antibiotics could stem the rising pandemic of MDR and MRSA along with other deadly microbial pathogens.

Dear Editor Wheat powdery mildew, caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici （Bgt）, is a destructive disease of wheat throughout the world. One of the most important environmental-friendly and economical methods to reduce wheat loss caused by Bgt is to develop highly resistant varieties （Kuraparthy et al., 2007）. Pm21 from the wild species Haynaldia villosa （also known as Dasypyrum villosum） confers high resistance to Bgt in wheat throughout all growth stages. It has now become one of the most highly effective genetic loci introgressed into wheat from wild species, and the commercial varieties harboring Pm21 have been widely used in wheat production with more than 4 million hectares in China.

目的肝细胞癌根治性治疗后的复发率较高。该研究对长时间随访的较大样本量根治性治疗后接受了I-碘油辅助性治疗的肝细胞癌患者进行了回顾性分析,报道评估此类患者生存和预后因素的经验。方法将1991年至2009年间法国2个医疗中心中所有因肝细胞癌根治性治疗后接受I-碘油辅助性治疗的患者纳入该回顾性研究。结果共106例患者纳入研究,中位随访时间为6(0.3～22)年。43例患者(41%)有肝硬化。患者1、2、5、10和20年的无复发生存率分别为73%、57%、40%、30%和14%,肝硬化是复发的独立预测因素[相对危险度(RR)=1.18,95%CI:1.11～3.02,P=0.019];1、2、5、10和20年的总生存率分别为90%、83%、59%、37%和23%,预后因素分别为复发(RR=2.73,95%CI:1.35～5.54;P=0.005)、年龄大于60岁(RR=1.91,95%CI:1.02～3.61;P=0.044)和肿瘤病灶多于3个(RR=3.31,95%CI:1.25～8.77;P=0.016)。结论肝细胞癌患者根治性治疗后的I-碘油辅助性治疗可能会降低早期复发的风险,可使用放射性核素栓塞方法进行进一步的研究。
