We comment on a study titled“Feasibility and safety of"bridging"pancreaticogastrostomy for pancreatic trauma in landrace pigs”in which ten pigs were randomized to either experimental“bridging”pancreaticogastrostomy(PG)or a control group with a routine mucosa-to-mucosa *** six months anastomoses had strictured and closed in both *** authors concluded that“bridging”PG is feasible and safe in damage control surgery during the early stage of pancreatic *** this letter we comment on the study design,specifically leaving a 2 cm gap between the pancreatic stump and the stomach and highlight the complexity of performing pancreatic anastomoses following trauma pancreaticoduodenectomy as to our experience in a high volume trauma *** data emphasize that pancreatic anastomoses in trauma are complex procedures with significant postoperative morbidity and are best managed collaboratively by trauma and hepatopancreaticobiliary surgical teams with the required technical skills.

Non-dimensional similarity groups and analytically solvable proximity equations can be used to estimate integral fluid film parameters of elastohydrodynamically lubricated(EHl)*** this contribution,we demonstrate that machine learning(Ml)and artificial intelligence(AI)approaches(support vector machines,Gaussian process regressions,and artificial neural networks)can predict relevant film parameters more efficiently and with higher accuracy and flexibility compared to sophisticated EHl simulations and analytically solvable proximity equations,*** this purpose,we use data from EHl simulations based upon the full-system finite element(FE)solution and a latin hypercube *** verify that the original input data are required to train Ml approaches to achieve coefficients of determination above *** is revealed that the architecture of artificial neural networks(neurons per layer and number of hidden layers)and activation functions influence the prediction *** impact of the number of training data is exemplified,and recommendations for a minimum database size are *** ultimately demonstrate that artificial neural networks can predict the locally-resolved film thickness values over the contact domain 25-times faster than FE-based EHl simulations(R^(2) values above 0.999).We assume that this will boost the use of Ml approaches to predict EHl parameters and traction losses in multibody system dynamics simulations.

The extent of male mate choosiness is driven by a trade-off between various environmental factors associated with the costs of mate acquisition,quality assessment and opportunity *** knowledge about natural variation in male mate choosiness across different populations of the same species,however,remains *** this study,we compared male mate choosiness across 10 natural populations of the freshwater amphipod Gammarus roeselii(Gervais 1835),a species with overall high male mating investments,and evaluated the relative influence of population density and sex ratio(both affecting mate availability)on male mate *** investigated amplexus establishment after separating mating pairs and presenting focal males with a novel,size-matched female from the same *** analysis revealed considerable effects of sex ratio and(to a lesser extent)population density on time until amplexus establishment(choosiness).Male amphipods are able to perceive variable social conditions(e.g.,sex ratio)and modify their mating strategy accordingly:We found choosiness to be reduced in increasingly male-biased populations,whereas selectivity increases when sex ratio becomes female *** this,our study expands our limited knowledge on natural variations in male mate choosiness and illustrates the importance of sex ratio(i.e.,level of competition)for male mating decisions in natural *** for variation in sex ratios,therefore,allows envisioning a distinctive variation of choosiness in natural populations and highlights the importance of considering social background information in future behavioral studies.

Dear Editor,Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by the monkeypox virus(MPXV),a double-stranded DNA virus in the genus Orthopoxvirus,family *** is known to be transmitted between animals such as rats and squirrels,but animal-to-human and human-to-human transmission has been known in Africa since *** is linked to direct contact with body fluids,skin lesions,and patient items as well as respiratory droplets in case of prolonged face-to-face contact[1].Until recently,only a few cases were associated with travel to endemic countries or contact with infected animals imported from endemic countries.

Key elements such as nitrogen （N） and phosphorus （P） are often limiting relative to the nutritional needs of herbivores that feed on them. While N often limits insect herbivores in natural terrestrial ecosystems, the effect of P is poorly studied in the field, even though compelling hypotheses from the ecological stoichiometry literature predict its importance. We evaluated small-scale spatial distributions of, and herbivory by, grasshoppers among neighboring plots that vary in foliar-N and -P in tallgrass prairie. Grasshopper densities were 67% greater in N-fertilized plots but detected no effect to grasshopper densities from P-fertilizer. leaf damage to the dominant grass Andropogon gerardii was 32% greater in N-fertilized plots, but no response to foliar-P was detected. Herbivore damage to a common forb, goldenrod （Solidago missouriensis）, was not strongly linked by fertilizer treatments, although there was increased leaf damage in N-fertilizer treatments when no P was applied （a significant N ~ P interaction）. Under field conditions at local scales, we conclude that spatially heterogeneous distributions of grasshoppers are primarily affected by foliar-N in host plants with little evidence that P-levels contribute to the spatial patterns.

Plasticity of cerebellar Purkinje cells(PC)is influenced by progeste rone via the classical progeste rone receptors PR-A and PR-B by stimulating dendritogenesis,spinogenesis,and synaptogenesis in these *** PC cultures were used to analyze progeste rone effects at a molecular level on the voltage-gated T-type-Ca^(2+)-channels Ca_(v)3.1,Ca_(v)3.2,and Ca_(v)3.3 as they helped determine neuronal plasticity by regulating Ca^(2+)-influx in neuronal *** results showed direct effects of progesterone on the mRNA expression of T-type-Ca^(2+)-channels,as well as on the protein kinases A and C being involved in downstream signaling pathways that play an important role in neuronal *** the mRNA expression studies of T-type-Ca^(2+)-channels and protein kinases of the signaling cascade,laser microdissection and purified PC cultures of diffe rent maturation stages were *** staining was also performed to characte rize the localization of T-type-Ca^(2+)-channels in *** rimental progesterone treatment was performed on the purified PC culture for 24 and 48 *** results show that progesterone increases the expression of Ca_(v)3.1 and Ca_(v)3.3 and associated protein kinases A and Cin PC at the mRNA level within 48 hours after treatment at *** effects extend the current knowledge of the function of progesterone in the central nervous system and provide an explanatory approach for its influence on neuronal plasticity.
