AIM: To identify the downstream regulated genes of GAEC1 oncogene in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and their clinicopathological significance. METHODS: The anti-proliferative effect of knocking down the expression of GAEC1 oncogene was stud-ied by using the RNA interference (RNAi) approach through transfecting the GAEC1 -overexpressed esophageal carcinoma cell line KYSE150 with the pSilencer vector cloned with a GAEC1 -targeted sequence, followed by MTS cell proliferation assay and cell cycle analysis using flow cytometry. RNA was then extracted from the parental, pSilencer-GAEC1 -targeted sequence transfected and pSilencer negative control vector transfected KYSE150 cells for further analysis of different patterns in gene expression. Genes differentially expressed with suppressed GAEC1 expression were then determined using Human Genome U133 Plus 2.0 cDNA microarray analysis by comparing with the parental cells and normalized with the pSilencer negative control vector transfected cells. The most prominently regulated genes were then studied by immunohistochemical staining using tissue microarrays to determine their clinicopathological correlations in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by statistical analyses. RESULTS: The RNAi approach of knocking down gene expression showed the effective suppression of GAEC1 expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cell line KYSE150 that resulted in the inhibition of cell proliferation and increase of apoptotic population. cDNA microarray analysis for identifying differentially expressed genes detected the greatest levels of downregulation of calpain 10 (CAPN10 ) and upregulation of trinucleotide repeat containing 6C (TNRC6C ) transcripts when GAEC1 expression was suppressed. Although the North Atlantic(NA)hurricane season has been reported to start increasingly early,historical longterm changes in NA spring tropical cyclone(TC)activity have not been examined in previous *** find that spring TCs have become more frequent and intense,and they have more closely approached the US coastline over the past four decades,thus increasing the probability of landfall.A long-term increase in the NA sea surface temperature(SST)and northward incursion of warm water may be responsible for the increasing number,intensity,and northward shift of spring *** addition,the interdecadal winter NA SST tripole mode may induce a North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO)-like atmospheric response in the following spring,which controls spring TC tracks via modulating the strength and position of the NA subtropical high(or the Bermuda high).The superposition of the interdecadal positive winter SST tripole on the NA warming trend has contributed to the anomalous enhancement and northward shift of spring TC activity,increasing the spring TC risks in the US in the past six years.

2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran(2-MTHF)is a promising biofuel or fuel additive with excellent burning property,a versatile new-style solvent in organic synthesis,and an important medical *** this work,a one-pot selective conversion of furfural(FA)into 2-MTHF was carried out over Zn doped Co/NC *** Zn-Co/NC-1 catalyst with trace Zn dopant(0.38 wt%)exhibited the best performance(yield of 2-MTHF:93.8%).According to the characterizations,it was found that the Zn not only incorporates into the carbon support but also partially dopes into Co ***,theoretical calculations demonstrated that the doping of Zn in carbon support can effectively enhance the electron transfer from the support to the metallic Co particle,leading to the electron-rich Co *** presence of Zn was found to promote the dissociation of hydrogen and to lower the diffusion barrier of hydrogen atom,in favor of the hydrogenation/hydrodeoxygenation ***,the Zn doped models exhibit much lower barrier in breaking C–OH bond of FOL,resulting in higher activity for hydrodeoxygenation of *** theoretical results are consistent with the in situ FT-IR analysis of adsorption substrates and intermediates over Zn doped *** work reveals the mechanism of dopant Zn tailoring the electronic structure and catalytic performance of active sites,providing a deep insight into the design of economical and high-performance catalysts for hydrogenation/hydrodeoxygenation of biomass feedstocks.

Poly（phenylacetylene）s beating monosaccharide pendant groups are synthesized in high yields by [Rh（nbd）Cl]2 catalyst. The polymers have high molecular weights and give satisfactory spectroscopic data corresponding to their molecular structures. They are thermally quite stable （≥ 300℃） and show strong circular dichroism signals in the visible spectral region owing to the helicity of the polyene backbone. The monosaccharide-containing polyacetylenes are cytophilic and can stimulate the growth of living cells.

Rupture of a cerebral aneurysm （abnormal swelling of blood vessel in the brain） will cause subarachnoid hemorrhage, and will result in an alarming rate of mortality and morbidity. A joint computational-experimental study is conducted to assess the importance of the aspect ratio in the dynamics of blood flow. The aspect ratio is defined here to be the ratio of the height of the aneurysm to the linear dimension of the neck. Idealized models of such aneurysms located near a bifurcation point were investigated. Numerical simulations for hemodynamic properties like shear stress and flow rate were performed. The computational results were verified experimentally with specially fabricated phantoms, blood mimicking fluid and Doppler ultrasound imaging. Excellent agreements were obtained. Two features are highlighted, providing information in the intensely debated link between rupture risk and geometric factors. On increasing the aspect ratios, firstly, a jet impinging on the distal part of the neck can be observed, and secondly, a region of positive shear stress gradient can be found there. Furthermore, computational analyses for four patient-specific models were conducted to correlate with the results of idealized models and to provide further clinical insight.

Based on the best-track dataset from the Shanghai Typhoon Institute/China Meteorological Administration,the paper provides a compre-hensive summary and analysis of tropical cyclone(TC)activities in the Western North Paciﬁc(WNP)and the South China Sea(SCS)for *** the historical climatology from 1951 to 2020,the anomalous conditions during 2022 in TC frequency,origin locations,tracks,intensity,and duration for the entire ocean basin as well as landfall events in China are *** show that the overall TC frequency is slightly lower than normal,but the multiple TC events have a very high frequency of *** locations of TCs,which mark the starting points of their paths,show a large westward and northward deviation from *** 40%of the named TCs exhibit a shift in their direction of movement from westerly to ***,comparisons of the means,medians,upper and lower quartiles all indicate that the intensity of TCs in 2022 is generally lower than the climatology,with the duration of TCs at tropical storm intensity or above being shorter than usual.A notable observation is the fewer incidence of TC landfalls in China,but with a geographical concentration in Guangdong *** anomalous annual TC activities are inﬂuenced by related atmospheric and oceanic environmental conditions modulated by multi-scale climate ***ﬁndings provide useful information for enhancing disaster mitigation strategies in the Asia-Paciﬁc region.
