Background:The climate variables that directly influence vector-borne diseases'ecosystems are mainly temperature and *** is not only because the vectors bionomics are strongly dependent upon these variables,but also because most of the elements of the systems are impacted,such as the host behavior and development and the pathogen *** impact of the climate changes on the transmission patterns of these diseases is not easily understood,since many confounding faaors are acting ***,knowledge of these impacts is often based on hypothesis derived from mathematical ***,some direct evidences can be found for several vector-borne *** body:Evidences of the impact of climate change are available for malaria,arbovirus diseases such as dengue,and many other parasitic and viral diseases such as Rift Valley Fever,Japanese encephalitis,human African trypanosomiasis and *** effect of temperature and rainfall change as well as extreme events,were found to be the main cause for outbreaks and are alarming the global *** the main driving factors,climate strongly influences the geographical distribution of insect veaors,which is rapidly changing due to climate ***,in both models and direct evidences,climate change is seen to be affecting veaor-borne diseases more strikingly in fringe of different climatic areas often in the border of transmission zones,which were once free of these diseases with human populations less immune and more *** impact of climate change is also more devastating because of the unpreparedness of Public Health systems to provide adequate response to the events,even when climatic warning is *** evidences are strong at the regional and local levels,the studies on impact of climate change on vector-borne diseases and health are producing contradictory results at the global ***:In this paper we discuss the current state of the

Targeting TrkB–PSD-95 coupling to mitigate neurological disorders

Tropomyosin receptor kinase B(TrkB)signaling plays a pivotal role in dendritic growth and dendritic spine formation to promote learning and *** activity-dependent release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor at synapses binds to pre-or postsynaptic TrkB resulting in the strengthening of synapses,reflected by long-term ***,the association of postsynaptic density protein-95 with TrkB enhances phospholipase cγ-ca^(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinaseⅡand phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-mechanistic target of rapamycin signaling required for long-term *** this review,we discuss TrkB-postsynaptic density protein-95 coupling as a promising strategy to magnify brain-derived neurotrophic factor signaling towards the development of novel therapeutics for specific neurological disorders.A reduction of TrkB signaling has been observed in neurodegenerative disorders,such as Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease,and enhancement of postsynaptic density protein-95 association with TrkB signaling could mitigate the observed deficiency of neuronal connectivity in schizophrenia and *** with brain-derived neurotrophic factor is problematic,due to poor pharmacokinetics,low brain penetration,and side effects resulting from activation of the p75 neurotrophin receptor or the truncated TrkB.T1 *** TrkB agonists and antibodies that activate TrkB are being intensively investigated,they cannot distinguish the multiple human TrkB splicing isoforms or cell type-specific *** TrkB–postsynaptic density protein-95 coupling provides an alternative approach to specifically boost TrkB signaling at localized synaptic sites versus global stimulation that risks many adverse side effects.

conservation practices are encouraged to improve soil health and sustain agronomic crop ***-3 is often used as a multi-nutrient extractant to determine soil fertility status.A study inves-tigated the impacts of the conservation practices of gypsum,cover crops,and crop rotation on 28 Mehlich-3 extractable elements,of which 11 were considered plant nutrients,from soil at three mid-western US *** was collected from 0 to 15 and 15-30 cm depths 5 years after implementing the conservation *** consisted of(1)with and without cereal rye(Secale cereale L.)winter cover,(2)continuous soybean[Glycine max(L.)Merr.]***-corn(Zea mays L.)rotation,and(3)annual gypsum application(0,1.1,and 2.2 Mg ha-1).Differences were observed by site,depth,and conservation practice depending on the element *** interactive effects were observed among *** most consistent effect was observed for crop rotation across *** only affected the site with the greatest clay content,where more ca and S were retained,and Mg and Mn *** crop only affected elements at this high clay site,where different elements were positively or negatively *** suggest that not one practice fits all,and optimum conservation practices must be tailored for the site.

The Active Yakutat （Kula？） Plate and Its Southcentral Alaska Megathrust and Intraplate Earthquakes

Alaska geology and plate tectonics have not been well understood due to an active Yakutat plate, believed to be part of the remains of an ancient Kula plate, not being acknowledged to exist in Alaska. It is positioned throughout most of southcentral Alaska beneath the North American plate and above the NNW subducting Pacific plate. The Kula？ plate and its eastern spreading ridge were partially ＂captured＂ by the North American plate in the Paleocene. Between 63 Ma and 32 Ma, large volumes of volcanics erupted from its subducted N-S striking spreading ridge through a slab window. The eruptions stopped at 32 Ma, likely due to the Pacific plate fiat-slab subducting from the south beneath this spreading ridge. At 28 Ma, magmatism started again to the east; indicating a major shift to the east of this ＂refusing to die＂ spreading ridge. The captured Yakutat plate has also been subducting since 63 Ma to the WSW. It started to change to WSW fiat-slab subduction at 32 Ma, which stopped all subduction magmatism in W and SW Alaska by 22 Ma. The Yakutat plate subduction has again increased with the impact/joining of the coastal Yakutat terrane from the ESE about 5 Ma, resulting in the cook Inlet Quaternary volcanism of southcentral Alaska. During the 1964 Alaska earthquake, sudden movements along the southcentral Alaska thrust faults between the Yakutat plate and the Pacific plate occurred. Specifically, the movements consisted of the Pacific plate moving NNW under the buried Yakutat plate and of the coastal Yakutat terrane, which is considered part of the Yakutat plate, thrusting WSW onto the Pacific plate. These were the two main sources of energy release for the E part of this earthquake. Only limited movement between the Yakutat plate and the North American plate occurred during this 1964 earthquake event. Buried paleopeat age dates indicate the thrust boundary between the Yakutat plate and North American plate will move in about 230 years, resulting in a more ＂continental＂

The redistribution of the electrically charged cold plasma of ionospheric origin involves the equatorial,low,mid,auroral,and polar-latitude regions in a multi-step,system-wide process linking the regions of *** with ground and space-based instruments characterize the geospace plume-regularly occurring channels of enhanced plasma density flowing at both ionospheric and magnetospheric *** in the SAPS channel transports the eroded material to the noontime cusp in the ionosphere and to the dayside magnetopause at high *** the fluxes of cold plume plasma traverse the cusp and enter the polar cap,they form the polar tongue of *** the cusp the plume plasma provides a rich source of heavy ions for the magnetospheric injection and acceleration via the mechanisms operative on those field lines.

No-till and conservation agriculture in the United States:An example from the David Brandt farm,carroll,Ohio

No-till(NT)farming(conservation agriculture)began in the US in the *** state of Ohio has a university research location that began no-till research in 1962.A few innovative Ohio farmers,including NT pioneers David Brandt and Bill Richards,were early adopters of the new conservation ***,no-till was most successful on sloping,well drained soils,then with improvements to the system,including cover crops,it became more widely adopted on all soil *** Brandt was an enthusiastic learner and teacher of no-till practices,working with chemical company representatives and cooperative Extension Specialists to demonstrate the *** Brandt’s cooperation with Ohio State University researchers continues to provide a valuable site for studying the long term changes in soil health and ecosystem *** showed that total microbial biomass as one of the soil biological health indicators significantly increased with an associated decrease in carbon(c)loss under NT compared with conventional tilled soil(cT).Under NT,there was significantly higher total c and total N compared to *** c,as a composite measure of soil health,significantly increased with *** cover crops,especially cover crop cocktail mixes,were used,NT substantially improved soil ***-term NT with cover crop cocktail mixes significantly increased the soil aggregate stability,compared with *** overall rate of c sequestration by NT suggested that the soils on the Brandt farm act as a consistent sink of atmospheric cO2 although this tends to level off after about 20 *** Brandt farm showed that crop yields are increased under long-term NT with cover crops *** suggested that starting with a cover crop when switching from cT to NT,is more likely to ensure success and to maintain economic crop *** early adopter,Bill Richards,from circleville,Ohio,also became a national leader and promoter of no-till *** served as head of the United Sta

Metagenomics: Facts and Artifacts, and computational challenges

Metagenomics is the study of microbial communities sampled directly from their natural environment, without prior culturing. By enabling an analysis of populations including many （so-far） unculturable and often unknown microbes, metagenomics is revolutionizing the field of microbiology, and has excited researchers in many disciplines that could benefit from the study of environmental microbes, including those in ecology, environmental sciences, and biomedicine. Specific computational and statistical tools have been developed for metagenomic data analysis and comparison. New studies, however, have revealed various kinds of artifacts present in metagenomics data caused by limitations in the experimental protocols and/or inadequate data analysis procedures, which often lead to incorrect conclusions about a microbial community. Here, we review some of the artifacts, such as overestimation of species diversity and incorrect estimation of gene family frequencies, and discuss emerging computational approaches to address them. We also review potential challenges that metagenomics may encounter with the extensive application of next-generation sequencing （NGS） techniques.

Design is a goal-oriented planning activity for creating products,processes,and systems with desired functions through *** is a decision-making exploration:the design outcome may vary greatly depending on the designer’s knowledge and *** design is one type of design philosophy that takes an interdisciplinary and holistic *** civil engineering,structural design is such an activity for creating buildings and ***,structural design in many countries has emphasized a performance-based philosophy that simultaneously considers a structure’s safety,durability,serviceability,and ***,integrated design in civil engineering has become more popular,useful,and ***-oriented integrated design and construction of structures(MIDcS)combine materials engineering and structural engineering in the design stage:it fully utilizes the strengths of materials by selecting the most suitable structural forms and construction *** paper will explore real-world examples of MIDcS,including the realization of MIDcS in timber seismic-resistant structures,masonry arch structures,long-span steel bridges,prefabricated/on-site extruded light-weight steel structures,fiber-reinforced cementitious composites structures,and fiber-reinforced polymer bridge ***,advanced material design methods such as bioinspired design and structure construction technology of additive manufacturing are briefly reviewed and discussed to demonstrate how MIDcS can combine materials and structures.A unified strengthdurability design theory is also introduced,which is a human-centric,interdisciplinary,and holistic approach to the description and development of any civil infrastructure and includes all processes directly involved in the life cycle of the ***,this paper lays out future research directions for further development in the field.

An Improved Evolvable Oscillator and Basis Function Set for control of an Insect-Scale Flapping-Wing Micro Air Vehicle

This paper introduces an improved evolvable and adaptive hardware oscillator design capable of supporting adaptation intended to restore control precision in damaged or imperfectly manufactured insect-scale flapping-wing micro air vehicles. It will also present preliminary experimental results demonstrating that previously used basis function sets may have been too large and that significantly improved learning times may be achieved by judiciously culling the oscillator search space. The paper will conclude with a discussion of the application of this adaptive, evolvable oscillator to full vehicle control as well as the consideration of longer term goals and requirements.
