This paper numerically investigates particle saltation in a turbulent channel flow having a rough bed consisting of 2–3 layers of densely packed *** this study,we combined three the state-of-the-art technologies,i.e.,the direct numerical simulation of turbulent flow,the combined finite-discrete element modelling of the deformation,movement and collision of the particles,and the immersed boundary method for the fluid-solid *** we verify our code by comparing the flow and particle statistical features with the published data and then present the hydrodynamic forces acting on a particle together with the particle coordinates and velocities,during a typical *** found strong correlation between the abruptly decreasing particle stream-wise velocity and the increasing vertical velocity at collision,which indicates that the continuous saltation of large grain-size particles is controlled by collision parameters such as particle incident angle,local rough bed packing arrangement,and particle density,*** physical process is different from that of particle entrainment in which turbulence coherence structures play an important *** distribution functions of several important saltation parameters and the relationships between them are *** results show that the saltating particles hitting the windward side of the bed particles are more likely to bounce off the rough bed than those hitting the *** on the above findings,saltation mechanisms of large grain-size particles in turbulent channel flow are presented.

Foreign Market Choices and Variables:a Conceptualized Model

Firms encounter a wide variety of factors when choosing to enter into a foreign market. This paper conducts a thorough literature review and consolidates past findings into a more cohesive and comprehensive model. Using interviews and surveys from a Chinese multinational company to expand and corroborate previous literature, a more complete conceptual model is created that includes variables and decisions that affect a firm's success in the foreign market, such as entry mode, past experience, trust, cultural distance, and social, political and economic dynamics. These variables interact with each other in direct and mediating ways, either enhancing or mitigating their respective effects. The outcome of these factors—that is, success or failure within the market—create a feedback loop that affects many of the aforementioned variables in later stages. As success is generated, detrimental effects are lessened and positive effects are increased, causing even greater success as time moves forward. This paper contributes to this field by creating a more cohesive conceptual construct of these factors and outcomes and by validating their merit through the investigation of a Chinese multinational. This model can be used to further academic study on this topic or as a practical roadmap for firms as they look to expand into the foreign market.

Internal solitary waves(ISWs)of depression are commonly found in the coastal environment and are believed to re-suspend sediments in coastal regions where the waves *** this research,the direct numerical simulation is used to study the scalar transport induced by the ISWs of depression propagating over a slope-shelf *** scalar in this paper is considered to represent the concentrations of very fine suspended solids or *** are observed from the numerical results at the bottom boundary layer on the slope during the ISW shoaling process,resulting in a scalar *** in cident ISWs of depression are observed to produce a waveform inversion on the *** scalar transport from a slope to a shelf is the consequence of the combined vortices at the bottom boundary layer and the overturning of the ISWs of depression,and the latter was commonly ignored in previous *** study shows that the ISW-induced scalar transport consists of the following four stages:the slip transport,the wash transport,the vortex transport,and the secondary transport.A dimensionless time scales of the four stages are calculated,and the beginning times of the wash transport and the secondary transport are found to be uncorrelated with the slope gradients,taking values of 1.26,4,respectively.

To the Editor： A 54-year-old woman with no significant history of a headache or hypertension underwent epidural oxygen-ozone injection at a concentration of 30ug/ml （3 ml） for cervical disc herniation at cervical vertebra （C6-C7） level. Throughout the procedure, the routine monitorings of blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation were perfomled. One minute following the end of the injection, tile patient developed a high-intensity headache mimicking symptoms of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The patient described the location of a headache as present in the l^ontoparietal and occipital areas accompanied by nausea and vomiting. The presumptive diagnosis of inadvertent epidural puncture was made. The patient was immediately treated oxygen therapy and bed rest. Monitoring showed vital signs of blood pressure （149/83 mmHg）, heart rate （86 beats/min）, pulse oxygen saturation （SpO2, 96%）, blood sugar （6.3 mmol/L）, and body temperature （36.6℃）. Subsequently, metoclopramide 10 mg and midazolam 1 mg were injected intravenously.

In treating superior laryngeal neuralgia （SLN）, superior laryngeal nerve blocks （SLNBs） can provide immediate relief of persistent pain. Although SLNB was effective, the procedure can increase the risks due to the proximity to the carotid artery, external vein, and other vessels. To avoid complications such as advertent intravascular injection, local anesthetic toxicity from intravascular absorption, and intratracheal injection, we successfully blocked the superior laryngeal nerve under ultrasound guidance in three patients suffering from SLN. The written informed consent before treatment was obtained for each patient participating in this study.

AIM:To establish the hospitalized prevalence of severe Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC) in Wales from 1999 to 2007;and to investigate long-term mortality after hospitalization and associations with social deprivation and other socio-demographic ***:Record linkage of administrative inpatient and mortality data for 1467 and 1482 people hospitalised as emergencies for ≥ 3d for CD and UC,*** main outcome measures were hospitalized prevalence,mortality rates and standardized mortality ratios for up to 5 years follow-up after ***:Hospitalized prevalence was 50.1 per 100 000 population for CD and 50.6 for *** hospitalized prevalence of CD was significantly higher(P < 0.05) in females(57.4) than in males(42.2),and was highest in people aged 16-29 years,but the prevalence of UC was similar in males(51.0) and females(50.1),and increased continuously with *** hospital-ized prevalence of CD was slightly higher in the most deprived areas,but there was no association between social deprivation and hospitalized prevalence of *** was 6.8% and 14.6% after 1 and 5 years follow-up for CD,and 9.2% and 20.8% after 1 and 5 years for *** both CD and UC,there was little discernible association between mortality and social deprivation,distance from hospital,urban/rural residence and ***:CD and UC have distinct demographic *** higher prevalence of hospitalized CD in more deprived areas may reflect higher prevalence and higher hospital dependency.

Communication boards provide a low-cost means of facilitating communication with patients who are unable to speak;however the process is slow and frustrating. A computer model was used to calculate the cumulative frequency-weighted path length for letter selection (“chart index”) for three conventional communication boards using different search strategies;and exhaustively generate and evaluate designs for a novel communication board based on a frequency-ordered arrangement of letters. For all arrangements, a 46% to 53% reduction in chart indices was achieved when “2 Dimensional” (2D) rather than “1 Dimensional” (1D) search strategies were employed. A further 23% to 30% reduction in chart indices was achieved through use of frequency-ordered sequences with optimal row groupings. Conventional communication boards can be used more efficiently by employing a 2D search strategy. Novel communication boards based on optimised arrangements of frequency-ordered letter sequences potentially provide a faster means of communication than conventional communication boards.
