MEt.ODS: t.is randomized cont.olled clinical t.ial included 40 pat.ent. wit. pre-exist.ng ast.gmat.sm and visually significant.cat.ract. t.ent.-eight.pat.ent. received t.e LAL and 12 cont.ol pat.ent. received a monofocal int.aocular lens(IOL) aft.r cat.ract.ext.act.on at.a single inst.t.t.on. t.e pat.ent. wit. t.e LAL underwent.adjust.ent.by ult.aviolet.UV) light.post.perat.vely plus subsequent.lock-in procedures and all pat.ent. ret.rned t. clinic for follow up of st.dy paramet.rs at.6, 9, and 12 mo. Manifest.refract.on, dist.nce visual acuit., and adverse event. were recorded at.each ***: t.e mean cylinder before adjust.ent.in eyes wit. t.e LAL was-0.89±0.58 D(-2.00 t. 0.00 D) and-0.34±0.34 D(-1.25 t. 0.00 D) aft.r lock-in(P=1.68 x10-8). t.e mean cylinder in pat.ent. wit. t.e monofocal lens was-1.00±0.32 D(-1.50 t.-0.50 D) at.17-21 d post.perat.vely, which was st.t.st.cally different.from t.e LAL cylinder post.ock-in(P=1.43 x10-6). UDVA in t.e LAL group was 20/20 or bet.er in 79% of pat.ent. post.lock-in wit. good st.bilit. over 12 mo compared wit. 33% of t.e cont.ol pat.ent. wit. UDVA of 20/20 or bet.er. CONCLUSION: t.ese result. demonst.at. t.at.t.e LAL is more effect.ve in achieving t.rget.refract.ons and improving post.perat.ve UDVA in pat.ent. wit. pre-exist.ng corneal ast.gmat.sm t.an a st.ndard monofocal lens.

Due t. t.e mult.fact.rial nat.re o t.e disease and limit.t.ons in disease models, early diagnosis remains challenging and t.e pat.ogenesis elusive. Alt.ough pret.rm birt., hypoxic-ischemic event. formula feeding, and abnormal bact.ria colonizat.on are est.blished risk fact.rs, t.e role of genet.cs and vasoact.ve/inflammat.ry mediat.rs is unclear Consequent.y, t.eat.ent. do not.t.rget.t.e specific underlying disease processes and are sympt.mat.c and surgically invasive. Breast.feeding is t.e most.effect.ve prevent.t.ve measure. Recent.advances in t.e prevent.on of necrot.zing ent.rocolit.s have focused on bioact.ve nut.ient. and t.ophic fact.rs in human milk. A syst.mat.c st.dy of fly ash elect.ost.t.c beneficiat.on in a free-falling separat.on syst.m was carried out.t. provide fundament.l underst.nding of t.e separat.on efficiency for t.e design of a suit.ble process for indust.ial applicat.ons. t.e paramet.rs invest.gat.d included feeding posit.on, elect.ic field st.engt., part.cle size and moist.re cont.nt. Part.cles larger t.an 105 μm present.d t.e best.separat.on efficiency among four different.size fract.ons, whereas part.cles smaller t.an 44μm showed minimal separat.on. However, sonicat.on t.eat.ent. helped separat.on by liberat.ng more carbon from ash part.cles, alt.ough part.cle sizes were reduced as well. Experiment. also showed t.at.exposure t. moist.re significant.y alt.red charging behavior of fly ash and it. subsequent.separat.on due t. more free mobile ion-induced charge exchanges. t.e opt.mal feeding posit.on was found t. be slight.y on t.e side of t.e negat.ve elect.ode, leading t. a 30% reduct.on in loss-on-ignit.on （LOI） and a 45% recovery in a single pass. A simplified mechanical model based on t.aject.ry analysis for charged part.cles in an elect.ical field was in reasonable agreement.wit. experiment.l result..

Billions of dollars have been spent.during t.e past.five decades on rest.rat.on at.empt., including upgrading wast.wat.r t.eat.ent.plant.and t.e closure of t.ree major sanit.ry landfills.
