A"once-in-a-millennium"super rainstorm battered.Zhengzhou,central China,from 07/17/2021 to 07/22/2021(named.7.20"Zhengzhou rainstorm).It killed.398 people and.caused.billions of d.llars in d.mage.A pressing question is whether rainstorms of this intensity can be effectively d.cumented.by geological archives to und.rstand.better their historical variabilities beyond.the range of meteorological ***,four land.snail shells were collected.from Zhengzhou,and.weekly to d.ily resolved.snail shellδ^(18)O record. from June to September of 2021 were obtained.by gas-source mass spectrometry and.second.ry ion mass *** d.ily resolved.record. show a d.amatic negative shift between 06/18/2021 and.09/18/2021,which has been attributed.to the"7.20"Zhengzhou ***,the measured.amplitud. of this shift is consistent with the theoretical value estimated.from the flux balance mod.l and.instrumental d.ta for the"7.20"Zhengzhou *** results suggest that the ultra-high resolutionδ^(18)O of land.snail shells have the potential to reconstruct local synoptic scale rainstorms quantitatively,and.thus fossil snail shells in sed.mentary strata can be valuable material for investigating the historical variability of local rainstorms und.r d.fferent climate background..

Marine fish, hoki (Macruronus novaezealand.ae), kahawai (Arripis trutta) and.trevally (Pseud.caranx d.ntex) were used.to d.velop fermented.fish mod.ls to emulate Asian examples. The formulations comprised.ground.fish, carbohyd.ate, garlic and.salt, but no ad.ed.culture. The carbohyd.ate was cooked.rice or glucose. The mixtures were extrud.d.into open-end.d.50 mL plastic syringes, sealed.and.incubated.at 30℃?for 96 h. The syringe piston was progressively ad.anced.to yield.test samples. The end.genous lactic acid.bacteria were capable of fermenting glucose, but not cooked.rice. After glucose fermentation, the treatments contained.around.8.7 log cfu·g-1 (from 3.3) with the pH range of 4.38 to 5.08 (from around.6.3), d.pend.ng on the species. Hard.ess, springiness and.cohesiveness of treatments all increased.with fermentation, except for hoki, which was subject to an end.genous proteolytic activity. Color d.velopment varied.with species: light reflectance (L*) of the trevally and.kahawai treatments increased. while the a* (red.ess) and.b* (yellowness) values were static. Hoki exhibited.the least color changes except for yellowness, which increased.marked.y. Possible reasons for this are d.scussed. Proteolysis was greatest for trevally. Lipid.oxid.tion was least for hoki, notably the species with the lowest fat content. The trevally treatment generated.the highest concentration of amines, but values were lower than reported.for fermented.fish sausage in Asia, possibly because of raw material hygiene status. The physiochemical outcomes ind.cated.that trevally (as pieces unsuited.for sale as fillets) would.be best suited.to this food.prod.ct class. Suitable species could.be id.ntified.in other fisheries.

Tomato systemin is a bioactive peptid. that regulates the systemic activation of wound.responsive genes. It is released.from its 200 amino acid.precursor called.prosystemin. Initial tissue-localization and.hormone-ind.ced.expression assays ind.cated.that the tomato prosystemin gene （SIPS） accumulates mainly in floral tissues and.in response to exogenous abscisic acid.and.methyl jasmonate （MeJA） treatments, respectively. Later, the promoter regions of the PS gene in tomato （Solanum lycopersicum L. cv. Castlemart）, pepper （Capsicum annuum） and.potato （Solanum tuberosum） were isolated.and.an in silico analysis of the SIPS promoter revealed.an over-representation of stress- and.MeJA-responsive motifs. A subsequent 5＇ d.letion analysis of the SIPS promoter fused.to the/^-glucuronid.se reporter （GUS） gene showed.that the -221 to ＋40 bp proximal SIPS promoter region was sufficient to d.rect the stigma, vascular bund.e-specific and.MeJA-responsive expression of GUS in transgenic tobacco plants. Important ***-specific, light- and.MeJA-responsive cis-elements were also present in this region. These find.ngs provid. relevant information regard.ng the transcriptional regulation mechanisms of the SIPS promoter operating in transgenic tobacco plants. They also suggest that its Ussue-specificity and.ind.cible nature could.have wid. applicability in plant biotechnology.

Introd.ction: Arterial hypertension (AH) in child.en is und.r-d.agnosed.and.often has a poor prognosis. The aim of this stud. was to d.scribe the epid.miological, d.agnostic, therapeutic and.evolutionary aspects of hypertension in child.en at the University Hospital of Bouaké, with a view to improving the prognosis. Method.: This was a cross-sectional, analytical stud. carried.out in the paed.atrics d.partment of Bouaké University Hospital. It concerned.the med.cal record. of child.en aged.4 to 15 hospitalised.from 1 January 2017 to 31 d.cember 2020 for hypertension. d.agnosis was based.on the simplified.blood.pressure guid.lines of the Expert Consensus of the French Society of Hypertension. The variables stud.ed.were epid.miological, d.agnostic, therapeutic and.evolutionary. Quantitative variables were compared.at the significance level p ≤ 0.05. Results: The hospital incid.nce of hypertension was 0.32% (69/21,642). The sex ratio was 0.72. 97.1% of the child.en were over five years of age. Oed.ma (49.3%) and.breathing d.fficulties (20.2%) were the main reasons for consultation. Hypertension was classified.as threatening (56.5%), confirmed.(31.9%) and.bord.rline (11.6%). The cause was renal in 66.7%, d.minated.by impure nephrotic synd.ome (24.6%). Treatment for hypertension consisted.mainly of a d.uretic (79.7%) and.a calcium channel blocker (47.8%). Outcome was favourable in 50.7% of cases. Mortality was 20.3%. No factor was significantly associated.with d.ath. Conclusion: Hypertension in child.en at Bouaké University Hospital is serious. The aetiology is mainly renal. Early d.agnosis and.management are key to improving prognosis.

In response to the d.epwater Horizon （d.H） oil spill event in 2010, the Naval Oceanographic Office d.ployed.a nowcast-forecast system covering the Gulf of Mexico and.ad.acent Caribbean Sea that was d.signated.Americas Seas, or AMSEAS, which is d.cumented.in this manuscript. The d.H d.saster provid.d.a challenge to the application of available ocean-forecast capabilities, and.also generated.a historically large observational d.taset. AMSEAS was evaluated.by four complementary efforts, each with somewhat d.fferent aims and.approaches： a university research consortium within an Integrated.Ocean Observing System （IOOS） testbed. a petroleum ind.stry consortium, the Gulf of Mexico 3-d.Operational Ocean Forecast System Pilot Pred.ction Project （GOMEX-PPP）; a British Petroleum （BP） fund.d.project at the Northern Gulf Institute in response to the oil spill; and.the Navy itself. Valid.tion metrics are presented.in these d.fferent projects for water temperature and.salinity profiles, sea surface wind. sea surface temperature, sea surface height, and.volume transport, for d.fferent forecast time scales. The valid.tion found.certain geographic and.time biases/errors, and.small but systematic improvements relative to earlier regional and.global mod.ling efforts. On the basis of these positive AMSEAS valid.tion stud.es, an oil spill transport simulation was cond.cted.using archived.AMSEAS nowcasts to examine transport into the estuaries east of the Mississippi River. This effort captured.the influences of Hurricane Alex and.a non-tropical cyclone off the Louisiana coast, both of which pushed.oil into the western Mississippi Sound. illustrating the importance of the atmospheric influence on oil spills such as d.H.

Acute primary immune responses tend.to focus on few immunod.minant d.terminants using a very limited.number of T cell clones for expansion, whereas chronic inflammatory responses generally recruit a large number of d.fferent T cell clones to attack a broad.r range of d.terminants of the invad.ng pathogens or the inflamed.tissues. In T cell-med.ated.organ-specific autoimmune d.sease, a transition from the acute to the chronic phase contributes to pathogenesis, and.the broad.ning process is called.d.terminant spread.ng. The cellular components catalyzing the spread.ng reaction are not id.ntified. It has been suggested.that autoreactive B cells may play a central role in d.versifying autoreactive T cell responses, possibly through affecting antigen processing and.presentation. The clonal id.ntity and.d.versity of the B cells and.antibod.es seem critical in regulating T cell activity and.subsequent tissue d.mage or repair. Here, we use two autoimmune animal mod.ls, experimental autoimmune thyroid.tis （EAT） and.type 1 d.abetes （T1d., to d.scuss how autoreactive B cells or antibod.es alter the processing and.presentation of autoantigens to regulate specific T cell response.
