The Kentucky Geological Survey(KGS)1 Hanson Aggregates stratigraphic research well,carter county,Kentucky,USA,was drilled to a total depth of 1474 m as a field-scale test of potential cO2 storage reservoir properties in the central Appalachian *** properties of the Rose Run sandstone(upper Ordovician Knox group)were tested for its suitability as a storage reservoir.A 9.8-m thick section of the Rose Run was penetrated at 1000 m drilled depth and a whole-diameter core and rotary sidewall cores were *** porosity and permeability measured in core plugs were 9.1%and 44.6 mD,*** vertical stress gradient calculated in the wellbore was 26 MPa/*** fractures in dolomites underlying and overlying the Rose Run follow the contemporary N53E Appalachian Basin stress *** Rose Run elastic geomechanical properties were calibrated to values measured in core plugs to evaluate its fracturing risk as a cO2 storage *** Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio values of the Rose Run were 45 GPa and 0.23,respectively,whereas Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio values were 77.1 GPa and 0.28,respectively,in the overlying Beekmantown dolomite,suggesting the Rose Run may fracture if overpressured during cO2 injection but be confined by the *** compressive strength measured in core plugs found the Rose Run and Beekmantown fractured at mean axial stresses of 156.5 MPa and 282.2 MPa,respectively,confirming the Beekmantown as suitable for confining cO2 injected into the Rose Run.A step-rate test was conducted in a mechanically-isolated 18.6-m interval bracketing the Rose *** Rose Run reservoir pressure was 9.3 MPa,and fracture gradient under injection was 13.6 MPa/km,suggesting step-rate testing before cO2 injection,and subsequent pressure monitoring to ensure *** the region around the KGS 1 Hanson Aggregates well is underpressured and adjacent to faulted Precambrian basement,further research is neede

characteristics of aggregated chondrules and reclassification of Boxian meteorites

cHONDRULES are the major constituent of chondrites, but the nature of their origin remains elusive. Models based on nebular settings have attracted much support since Wood suggested that they formed there ascondensates. Subsequently, the melting of dust in the nebula has been widely invoked. Recently,however, models suggesting that chondrules formed in parent body regoliths have been revived, couldhelp to explain the coexistence of chondrules with chemically differentiated clasts The Boxian meteorite is a fall and was originally described as L4. The widely quoted classification of the chondrite is LL4. In this study, 362 chondrules were separated from the Boxian meteorite,and were measured for their grain sizes, masses and morphologies. 101 of these chondrules were successfully split and parts of them made into polished blocks; the remaining segments were individually set asidefor future oxygen isotopic analyses. Dendroclimatic analysis of white pine (Pinus strobus L.)using long-term provenance test sites across eastern North America

Background: The main objective of this study was to examine the climatic sensitivity of the radial growth response of 13 eastern white pine(Pinus strobus L.) provenances planted at seven test sites throughout the northern part of the species’ native distribution in eastern North ***: The test sites(i.e., Wabeno, Wisconsin, USA; Manistique, Michigan, USA; Pine River, Michigan, USA; Newaygo,Michigan, USA; Turkey Point, Ontario, canada; Ganaraska, Ontario, canada; and Orono, Maine, USA) examined in this study were part of a range-wide white pine provenance trial established in the early 1960 s in the eastern United States and canada. Principal components analysis(PcA) was used to examine the main modes of variation [first(Pc1) and second(Pc2) principal component axes] in the standardized radial growth indices of the provenances at each test *** year scores for Pc1 and Pc2 were examined in relation to an array of test site climate variables using multiple regression analysis to examine the commonality of growth response across all provenances to the climate of each test site. Provenance loadings on Pc1 and Pc2 were correlated with geographic parameters(i.e., latitude, longitude,elevation) and a suite of biophysical parameters associated with provenance origin ***: The amount of variation in radial growth explained by Pc1 and Pc2 ranged from 43.4% to 89.6%. Dendroclimatic models revealed that white pine radial growth responses to climate were complex and differed among sites. The key dendroclimatic relationships observed included sensitivity to high temperature in winter and summer, cold temperature in the spring and fal(i.e., beginning and end of the growing season), summer moisture stress, potential sensitivity to storminduced damage in spring and fal, and both positive and negative effects of higher winter snowfal. A feeder-free,human plasma-derived hydrogel for maintenance of a human embryonic stem cell phenotype in vitro

Background:Human embryonic stem cells(hEScs)represent a tremendous resource for cell therapies and the study of human development;however to maintain their undifferentiated state in vitro they routinely require the use of mouse embryonic fibroblast(MEF)feeder-layers and exogenous protein media ***:These well established requirements can be overcome and in this study,it will be demonstrated that phenotypic stability of hEScs can be maintained using a novel,human plasma protein-based hydrogel as an extracellular culture matrix without the use of feeder cell *** were resuspended in human platelet poor plasma(PPP),which was gelled by the addition of calcium containing DMEM-based hESc culture *** and genomic expression of the pluripotency markers OcT4,NANOG and SOX2 were measured using immunohistochemistry and qRT-PcR *** hESc morphology was demonstrated throughout in vitro culture and both viability and phenotypic stability were maintained throughout extended culture,up to 25 ***:PPP-derived hydrogel has demonstrated to be an efficacious alternative to MEF co-culture with its hydrophilicity allowing for this substrate to be delivered via minimally invasive procedures in a liquid phase with polymerization ensuing in *** this provides a novel technique for the study of this unique group of stem cells in either 2D or 3D both in vitro and in vivo.

Abscission is the process by which plants discard organs in response to environmental cues/stressors, or as part of their normal development. Abscission has been studied throughout the history of the plant sciences and in numerous species. Although long studied at the anatomical and physiological levels, abscission has only been elucidated at the molecular and genetic levels within the last two decades, primarily with the use of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. This has led to the discovery of numerous genes involved at all steps of abscission, including key pathways involving receptor-like protein kinases （RLKs）. This review covers the current knowledge of abscission research, highlighting the role of RLKs.

A recent demographic shift towards increased age at time of spinal cord injury (ScI), as well as decreased functional recovery following ScI in older populations, create the need to investigate how age effects ScI pathology and repair (Scivoletto et al., 2003). While decreased neuroplasticity or physical strength with age may contribute to functional deficits, work from our lab and others have identified exacerbated acute inflammatory events as contributors to age-dependent secondary injury. Specifically, our recent paper identified that increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from macrophage nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX) with age exacerbates secondary injury after ScI (Zhang et al., 2019).

Retrospective analysis of eFAST ultrasounds performed on trauma activations at an academic level-1 trauma center

BAcKGROUND:Point-of-care ultrasound(POcUS)has become increasingly integrated into the practice of emergency medicine.A common application is the extended focused assessment with sonography in trauma(eFAST)*** American college of Emergency Physicians has guidelines regarding the scope of ultrasound in the emergency department and the appropriate *** objective of this study was to conduct a review of performed,documented and billed eFAST ultrasounds on trauma activation ***:This was a retrospective review of all trauma activation patients during a 10-month period at an academic level-one trauma center.A list comparing all trauma activations was crossreferenced with a list of all billed eFAST *** records were reviewed to determine whether an eFAST was indicated,performed,and appropriately ***:We found that 1,507 of 1,597 trauma patients had indications for eFAST,but 396(27%)of these patients did not have a billed *** these 396 patients,87(22%)had documentation in the provider note that an eFAST was performed but there was no separate procedure *** remaining 309(78%)did not have any documentation of the eFAST in the patient’s chart although an eFAST was recorded and reviewed during ultrasound quality ***:A significant proportion of trauma patients had eFAST exams performed but were not documented or *** of documentation was *** ultrasound programs require appropriate reimbursement to support training,credentialing,equipment,quality assurance,and device *** study demonstrates a significant absence of adequate documentation leading to potential revenue loss for an emergency ultrasound program.

Mapping landslide susceptibility at the Three Gorges Reservoir, china, using gradient boosting decision tree,random forest and information value models

This work was to generate landslide susceptibility maps for the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR) area, china by using different machine learning models. Three advanced machine learning methods, namely, gradient boosting decision tree(GBDT), random forest(RF) and information value(InV) models, were used, and the performances were assessed and compared. In total, 202 landslides were mapped by using a series of field surveys, aerial photographs, and reviews of historical and bibliographical data. Nine causative factors were then considered in landslide susceptibility map generation by using the GBDT, RF and InV models. All of the maps of the causative factors were resampled to a resolution of 28.5 m. Of the 486289 pixels in the area,28526 pixels were landslide pixels, and 457763 pixels were non-landslide pixels. Finally, landslide susceptibility maps were generated by using the three machine learning models, and their performances were assessed through receiver operating characteristic(ROc) curves, the sensitivity, specificity,overall accuracy(OA), and kappa coefficient(KAPPA). The results showed that the GBDT, RF and In V models in overall produced reasonable accurate landslide susceptibility maps. Among these three methods, the GBDT method outperforms the other two machine learning methods, which can provide strong technical support for producing landslide susceptibility maps in TGR.
