Background:Evidence on the health benefits of occupational physical activity(OPA)is *** examined the associations of baseline OPA and OPA changes with all-cause,cardiovascular disease(CVD),and cancer mortality and survival ***:This study included prospective and longitudinal data from the MJ Cohort,comprising adults over 18 years recruited in 1998-2016,349,248 adults(177,314 women)with baseline OPA,of whom 105,715(52,503 women)had 2 OPA measures at 6.3±4.2 years(mean±SD)*** were baseline OPA,OPA changes,and baseline leisure-time physical ***:Over a mean mortality follow-up of 16.2±5.5 years for men and 16.4±5.4 years for women,11,696 deaths(2033 of CVD and 4631 of cancer causes)in men and 8980 deaths(1475 of CVD and 3689 of cancer causes)in women *** moderately heavy/heavy baseline OPA was beneficially associated with all-cause mortality in men(multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio(HR)=0.93,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.89-0.98 compared to light OPA)and women(HR=0.86,95%CI:0.79-0.93).Over a mean mortality follow-up of 12.5±4.6 years for men and 12.6±4.6 years for women,OPA decreases in men were detrimentally associated(HR=1.16,95%CI:1.01-1.33)with all-cause mortality,while OPA increases in women were beneficially(HR=0.83,95%CI:0.70-0.97)associated with the same *** or changes in OPA showed no associations with CVD or cancer ***:Higher baseline OPA was beneficially associated with all-cause mortality risk in both men and *** longitudinal OPA analyses partly confirmed the prospective findings,with some discordance between sex groups.

Comparison of the patient and partner satisfaction with 700CX and Titan penile prostheses

Most widespread three-component penile prosthesis models are 700CXTM and Titan~. Our purpose is to assess patient and partner satisfaction after the first implant. This is a multicenter, retrospective, nonrandomized study in which all patients who met the inclusion criteria between 2009 and 2013 were included. In total, 248 patients agreed to participate. To evaluate patient satisfaction, a validated but modified 11-question questionnaire was completed （EDITS）; and a nonvalidated two-item questionnaire was given to the partner. Statistical analysis used an ordinal logistic regression model. Two hundred and forty-eight patients （194 with 700CXTM vs 54 with Titan） and 207 couples completed the questionnaire （165 with 700CXTM vs 42 with Titan）. Overall satisfaction was high. Both showed great reliability for sexual intercourse and high compliance with prior expectations. Most patients were able to manage the penile prosthesis correctly within 6 months. Postoperative penile shortening led to some dissatisfaction in 42% and 46% of cases （700CX/Titan）. Significant differences were found in three questions of patients＇ questionnaire. There were more patients satisfied with the 700CXTM （P= 0.0001）. No patient with Titan implant took longer than 6 months to optimal management. Only 4% of patients with 700CXTM implant were dissatisfied with the deflation, in contrast to 24% with the Titan （P = 0.0031）. Of the two partners＇ questions, one showed a statistically significant difference （P = 0.0026）. It seems that group 700CX＂ would recommend to re-implant the prosthesis with a greater tendency. The overall satisfaction was very high for both prostheses. The final aspect of the erected and flaccid penis was satisfactory, but both groups showed significant discontent with its final size. Partners＇ overall satisfaction was high.

Last decade, the geography of immigration in Portugal experienced intense transformations with an increasing inflow of new and diversified migratory groups. An open questionnaire was developed and applied to 22 Portuguese nurses, aiming to analyse personal experiences and significant situations of nursing care in multicultural contexts. The understanding of hospital routines, difficulties in managing physical space due to different cultural standards, body exposure, and body handling in nursing clinical care, emerged as more significant issues in reports of critical incidents focusing on multicultural contexts.

Comparison of the Internal Structures of Bones by Microtomography

The use of computed microtomography （***） has revolutionized many areas of research, such as noninvasive, fast and high precision techniques, which allows immediate visualization of internal structures without any risk to the object of study. ~tCT is widely accepted for medical diagnostics, is also important for purposes of zoological research and paleontological. In this work, we used the μCT to investigate the internal structure of bones from mammalian and poultry. We studied the bones of rats and quail. Through microtomography images, we observed that the bones of the poultry have a bony structure in the form of a trellis that is not present in bones of mammals. These trellises bony is an evolutionary adaptation that allowed the bones of the birds to become longer and lighter maintaining its strength. It was also observed that the percentage of the trabecular area in poultry is almost half of that observed in mammals. The results obtained validate the use of μCT as a technique that allows the study of bone structures in small samples, enabling to explore the morphological differences between the bones of those species.

The paper presents the implementation of a parallel version of FDK （Felkamp, David e Kress） algorithm using graphics processing units. Discussion was briefly some elements the computed tomographic scan and FDK algorithm; and some ideas about GPUs （Graphics Processing Units） and its use in general purpose computing were presented. The paper shows a computational implementation of FDK algorithm and the process of parallelization of this implementation. Compare the parallel version of the algorithm with the sequential version, used speedup as a performance metric. To evaluate the performance of parallel version, two GPUs, GeForce 9400GT （16 cores） a low capacity GPU and Quadro 2000 （192 cores） a medium capacity GPU was reached speedup of 3.37.

Introduction: Total laryngectomy/pharingo-laryngectomy is a potentially aggressive surgery for advanced laryngeal/hypopharyngeal carcinomas, which results in important physical and functional changes that compromise some of the most vital functions, including speech communication. For these patients, tracheoesophageal speech is considered to be the gold standard for voice rehabilitation. Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to determinate the success rate of voice prosthesis rehabilitation, voice prosthesis lifetime and the rate of complications, and its related clinicopathologic factors. Material and Methods: Retrospective review of 92 patients who undergone tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) performed between January 2007 and December 2012 at the Francisco Gentil Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Oporto. Age, primary disease, staging, the extent of surgical resection, radiotherapy treatment, timing of TEP, surgical and prosthesis-related complications were noted. The impact of these clinicpathological factors on functional outcome, complications of TEP and lifetime of prosthetic valves was assessed in univariate analysis. Vocal rehabilitation efficacy with voice prosthesis was assessed with the multidimensional Harrison-Robillard Shultz (HRS) Rating Scale. Lifetime of voice prosthesis and early and late complications were recorded. Results: A total of 83 patients met the study criteria, predominantly males (94%) with a mean age of 63.7 years. 77% of the patients underwent primary and 23% secondary TEP. 68.7% of patients achieved functional tracheoesophageal speech (HRS score ≥ 10), 67.2% had performed primary TEP and 73.7% had performed secondary TEP. The mean device lifetime was 9.8 months for voice prosthesis. Prosthesis-related complications occurred in 81% of the patients and the most common issues were prosthesis leakage (76%) and displacement (22%). This paper aims to analyze the Scientific Initiation （SI） as public policy of higher education in Brazil, from meanings and peculiarities of this device in the undergraduate academic＇s formation, created jointly with the National Research Council in 1951 currently National Council for Scientific and Technological Development （CNPq）. This corporation emerged from the recognition of the strategic importance of science and necessity of institutionalization of encouragement and fostering research. This is a theoretical bibliographical study and documentary that evidences the contributions and limits of SI while political science training should be part of academic activities to provide the development and support of investigative spirit. The concept of SI was established in universities as an activity to be developed in order to encourage the student to become familiar with scientific practices. The study concluded that SI is based on institutionalized norms within higher education to foster the development of science, and it is considered as an important strategy of expansion of graduate studies in Brazil.

The aim of this work is to determine the porosity of concrete by means of two NDT （non-destructive testing） using digital images. In one test, the images were obtained through X-ray microtomography and for another test via digital scanner. In both of the tests, the images were processed using techniques of mathematical morphology and pixel processing. For both NDT, it was used concrete samples with 20-30 MPa of compressive strength. The results for the porosity were compared with results obtained by the standard test proposed by NBR （Norma Brasileira） 9778 （2005） showing the compatibility between two studied methods and pattern method.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is a public health concern *** factors,including genetic polymorphisms,may be evolved in the progression of HCV infection to liver *** lambdas(IFNLs)modulate the immune response during viral *** induce antiviral activity,interfering in the viral replication by promoting the expression of several genes that regulate immunological *** interferon lambda-4(IFNL4)rs12979860 polymorphism,which is characterized by a C to T transition in intron 1,is associated with spontaneous and treatment-induced clearance of HCV infection and may play a role in the development of HCV-associated liver diseases,including hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).AIM To investigate the association of IFNL4 rs12979860 polymorphism with fibrosis,cirrhosis,and HCC in patients with chronic HCV *** This study was comprised of 305 chronic HCV-infected patients(53 fibrosis,154 cirrhosis,and 98 HCC cases).The control group was comprised of 260 HCVnegative healthy *** IFNL4 rs12979860 polymorphism was genotyped using the TaqMan *** was diagnosed based on liver biopsy findings,while cirrhosis was diagnosed through clinical,laboratory,anatomopathological,and/or imaging *** was diagnosed through imaging tests,tumor,and/or anatomopathological *** The T allele was observed in the three groups of patients(fibrosis,cirrhosis,and HCC)at a significantly higher frequency when compared with the control group(P=0.047,P<0.001,and P=0.01,respectively).Also,genotype frequencies presented significant differences between the control group and cirrhosis patients(P<0.001)as well as HCC patients(P=0.002).The risk analysis was performed using the codominant and dominant T allele *** the codominant model,it was observed that the CT genotype showed an increased risk of developing cirrhosis in comparison with the CC genotype[odds ratio(OR)=2.53;95%confidence interval(CI):1.55-4.15;
