The Local Acceleration Due to Gravity as Determined with a Cart and Track

The aim of this lab is to determine an experimental value for the local acceleration due to gravity. In order to do this, a cart was released down a track and allowed to pass through two photogates recording the entrance and exit times of the cart. These times along with the length of a light blocking strip on the cart, were used to calculate the acceleration of the cart down the track at various angles, and through linearization, the experimental value for the local acceleration due to gravity was determined to be 10.027 ± 0.312 m/s2. This value has a percent error of only 2.2% from the accepted value of 9.8 m/s2, which proves that this method of determining local acceleration due to gravity can be effective and accurate. Additionally, this experimental value shows how similar the approximation is to the accepted value.

Incorporation of bioactive natural compounds like polyphenols is an attractive approach for enhanced functionalities of *** particular flavonoids have important pharmacological activities,and controlled release systems may be instrumental to realize the full potential of these *** presents interesting attributes for dermal and other biomaterial applications,and studies were carried here to support the development of polyphenol-loaded alginate *** of capillary viscosity indicated that ionic medium is an effective strategy to modulate the polyelectrolyte effect and viscosity properties of *** gelation,considerable differences were observed between alginate gels produced with Ca^2+,Ba^2+,Cu^2+,Fe^2+,Fe^3+and Zn^2+as crosslinkers,especially concerning shrinkage and morphological *** assays with different polyphenols in the presence of alginate-gelling cations pointed to the choice of calcium,barium and zinc as safer ***-based films loaded with epicatechin were prepared and the kinetics of release of the flavonoid *** results with calcium,barium and zinc alginate matrices indicated that the release dynamics is dependent on film thicknesses,but also on the crosslinking metal *** these grounds,an alginate-based system of convenient use was devised,so that flavonoids can be easily loaded at simple point-of-care conditions before dermal *** epicatechin-loaded patch was tested on an ex-vivo skin model and demonstrated capacity to deliver therapeutically relevant concentrations on skin ***,the flavonoid released was not modified and retained full antioxidant *** alginate-based system proposed offers a multifunctional approach for flavonoid controllable delivery and protection of skin injured or under risk.

The European Respiratory Society/American Thoracic Society clinical practice guidelines,which are only recommendatory,suggest utilization of non-invasive respiratory support therapies(NRST)as a preventive strategy for avoiding intubation in hypoxemic acute respiratory failure(ARF).[1]Theoretical concerns against the use of NRST are essentially related to safety reasons for the risk of the virus spreading among healthcare workers(HCW)and for the risk of delaying intubation in case of failure.

Objective The purpose of this study is to examine the regional distribution of the pediatric surgery workforce and the expected local demand for pediatric surgical procedures in *** We collected data on the pediatric surgical workforce,surgical volume,Gross Domestic Product per capita,and mortality for gastrointestinal tract malformations(MGITM)across the different regions of Brazil for *** Data from the Federal Medical Council reported 1515 pediatric surgery registries in Brazil,corresponding to 1414 pediatric surgeons(some pediatric surgeons are registered in more than one state),or 2.4 pediatric surgeons per 100000 children 14 years of age and *** were 828 men and 586 *** mean age was 51.5±12.8 years,and the mean time from graduation was 3.4±5.7 *** is a higher concentration of pediatric surgeons in the wealthier Central-West,South,and Southeast *** surgical volume ranged from 88 to 245 operations/year(average 146 operations/year)depending on the *** these,only nine(6.1%)were high-complexity(including neonatal)*** tended to be higher in the poorer North and Northeast regions than in other regions of *** Our findings suggest significant disparities in the surgical workforce and workload across Brazil related to socioeconomic *** with an increased surgical workforce were associated with lower *** average number of complex operations performed annually by each pediatric surgeon was considerably *** investment and well-defined health policies are imperative to enhance the quality of surgical care in the different regions of Brazil.

COSMO-SkyMed is a constellation of four X-band high-resolution radar satellites with a minimum revisit period of 12 *** satellites can obtain ascending and descending synthetic aperture radar(SAR)images with very similar periods for use in the three-dimensional(3D)inversion of glacier *** this paper,based on ascending and descending COSMO-SkyMed data acquired at nearly the same time,the surface velocity of the Yiga Glacier,located in the Jiali County,Tibet,China,is estimated in four directions using an offset tracking technique during the periods of 16 January to 3 February 2017 and 1 February to 19 February *** the geometrical relationships between the measurements and the SAR images,the least square method is used to retrieve the 3D components of the glacier surface velocity in the eastward,northward and upward *** results show that applying the offset tracking technique to COSMO-SkyMed images can be used to derive the true 3D velocity of a glacier’s *** the two periods,the Yiga Glacier had a stable velocity,and the maximum surface velocity,2.4 m/d,was observed in the middle portion of the glacier,which corresponds to the location of the steepest slope.

AIM To evaluate the role of dynamic computed tomography(CT)scan imaging in diagnosing craniovertebral junction(CVJ)instability in patients with congenital CVJ *** Patients with symptomatic congenital CVJ malformations who underwent posterior fossa decompression and had a preoperative dynamic CT scan in flexion and extended position were included in this *** of the following craniometrical parameters were taken in flexed and extended neck position:Atlanto-dental interval(ADI),distance of the odontoid tip to the Chamberlain’s line,and the clivus-canal angle(CCA).Assessment of the facet joints congruence was also performed in both *** of the values obtained in flexion and extension were compared using a paired Student’s *** A total of ten patients with a mean age of 37.9 years were *** flexion imaging,the mean ADI was1.76 mm,the mean CCA was 125.4°and the mean distance of the odontoid tip to the Chamberlain’s line was+9.62 *** extension,the mean ADI was1.46 mm(P=0.29),the mean CCA was 142.2°(P<0.01)and the mean distance of the odontoid tip to the Chamberlain’s line was+7.11 mm(P<0.05).Four patients(40%)had facetary subluxation demonstrated in dynamic imaging,two of them with mobile subluxation(both underwent CVJ fixation).The other two patients with a fixed subluxation were not initially *** patient with atlantoaxial assimilation and C23 fusion without initial facet subluxation developed a latter CVJ instability diagnosed with a dynamic CT *** with basilar invagination had a lower CCA variation compared to the whole *** Craniometrical parameters,as well as the visualization of the facets location,may change significantly according to the neck *** imaging can provide additional useful information to the diagnosis of CVJ *** studies addressing the relationship between craniometrical changes and neck position are necessary.
