Eosinophils play important roles in asthma and lung *** models are widely used for assessing the functional significance and mechanistic basis for eosinophil involvements in these ***,little is known about tissue eosinophils in *** addition,little data on eosinophil chemokine production during allergic airway inflammation are *** this study,the properties and functions of homeostatic and activated eosinophils were *** from normal tissues expressed costimulation and adhesion molecules B7-1,B7-2 and IcAM-1 for Ag presentation but little major histocompatibility complex(MHc)class II,and were found to be poor stimulators of T-cell ***,these eosinophils expressed high levels of chemokine mRNA including c10,macrophage inflammatory protein(MIP)-1a,MIP-1c,MIP-2,eotaxin and monocyte chemoattractant protein-5(McP-5),and produced chemokine *** intracellular chemokines decreased rapidly with concomitant surface marker downregulation upon in vitro culturing consistent with piecemeal *** eosinophils from mice with induced allergic airway inflammation exhibited increased chemokines mRNA expression and chemokines protein production and upregulated MHc class II and cD11c *** were also found to be the predominant producers of the ccR1 ligands ccL6/c10 and ccL9/MIP-1c in inflamed *** production of c10 and MIP-1c correlated with the marked influx of cD11bhigh lung dendritic cells during allergic airway inflammation and the high expression of ccR1 on these dendritic cells(Dcs).The study provided baseline information on tissue eosinophils,documented the upregulation of activation markers and chemokine production in activated eosinophils,and indicated that eosinophils were a key chemokine-producing cell type in allergic lung inflammation.

cancer cells reprogram their gene expression to promote growth,survival,proliferation,and *** unique expression of certain uptake transporters in cancers and their innate function to concentrate small molecular substrates in cells make them ideal targets for selective delivering imaging and therapeutic agents into cancer *** this review,we focus on several solute carrier(SLc)transporters known to be involved in transporting clinically used radiopharmaceutical agents into cancer cells,including the sodium/iodine symporter(NIS),norepinephrine transporter(NET),glucose transporter 1(GLUT1),and monocarboxylate transporters(McTs).The molecular and functional characteristics of these transporters are reviewed with special emphasis on their specific expressions in cancers and interaction with imaging or theranostic agents[e.g.,Ⅰ-123,Ⅰ-131,123Ⅰ-iobenguane(mIBG),18F-fluorodeoxyglucose(18F-FDG)and 13c pyruvate].current clinical applications and research areas of these transporters in cancer diagnosis and treatment are ***,we offer our views on emerging opportunities and challenges in targeting transporters for cancer imaging and *** analyzing the few clinically successful examples,we hope much interest can be garnered in cancer research towards uptake transporters and their potential applications in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The neurophysiological measurement technique known as magnetoencephalography, or MEG, has been in use since the early 1970's, and applied to clinical populations since the early 1980's. However, it was not until the late 1980's and early 1990's that the technology was advanced to point where effective clinical use was achieved. This presentation will review the basic principles of MEG, discuss the progression of technology development and give an update on the current clinical applications of the technology.

Formation potential and analysis of 32 regulated and unregulated disinfection by-products: Two new simplified methods

Water disinfection is an essential process that provides safe water by inactivating pathogens that cause waterborne diseases. However, disinfectants react with organic matter naturally present in water, leading to the formation of disinfection by-products(DBPs). Multi-analyte methods based on mass spectrometry(MS) are preferred to quantify multiple DBP classes at once however, most require extensive sample pre-treatment and significant resources. In this study, two analytical methods were developed for the quantification of 32 regulated and unregulated DBPs. A purge and trap(P&T) coupled with gas chromatography mass spectrometry(Gc-MS) method was optimized that automated sample pre-treatment and analyzed volatile and semi-volatile compounds, including trihalomethanes(THMs), iodinated trihalomethanes(I-THMs), haloacetonitriles(HANs), haloketones(HKTs) and halonitromethanes(HNMs). LOQs were between 0.02-0.4 μg/L for most DBPs except for 8 analytes that were in the low μg/L range. A second method with liquid chromatography(Lc) tandem mass spectrometry(MS/MS) was developed for the quantification of 10 haloacetic acids(HAAs) with a simple clean-up and direct injection. The Lc-MS/MS direct injection method has the lowest detection limits reported(0.2-0.5 μg/L). Both methods have a simple sample pre-treatment, which make it possible for routine analysis. Hyperchlorination and uniform formation conditions(UFc) formation potential tests with chlorine were evaluated with water samples containing high and low TOc. Hyperchlorination formation potential test maximized THMs and HAAs while UFc maximized HANs. Ascorbic acid was found to be an appropriate quencher for both analytical methods. Disinfected drinking water from four water utilities in Alberta, canada were also evaluated.

In 1981 a magnetic and bathymetric survey was carried out over Explorer Seamount located approximately between 48°50′ and 49°30′N and 130°40′ and 131°30′W. During the cruise four pillow fragments were dredged from peaks in this area. Based on the observed ***, it was identified that the main peak of Explorer Seamount should be of the Bruhnes age while the magnetic high in the N W of study area would be Gauss. This would yield a spreading rate of about 2 cm per year for the Matuyama epoch. The results of intensities of remanence measured from the pillow fragments indicate that the ages are less than 106 years. Similarly the curie temperature is consistent with ages of around 106 years. An attempt was made to model the observed magnetic field using a series of uniformly magnetized NE-SW trending blocks of alternating polarity. Agreement between the model and observed results is satisfied. Oxidation ratios calculated from measured samples suggest that the main peak of Explorer Seamount is

Free and open access to the Landsat archive has enabled the implementation of national and global terrestrial monitoring ***,we summarize a project characterizing the change history of canada’s forested ecosystems with a time series of data representing *** the composite2change approach,we applied spectral trend analysis to annual best-available-pixel(BAP)surface reflectance image composites produced from Landsat TM and ETM+imagery.A total of 73,544 images were used to produce 29 annual image composites,generating∼400 TB of interim data products and resulting in∼25 TB of annual gap-free reflectance composites and change *** average,10%of pixels in the annual BAP composites were missing data,with 86%of pixels having data gaps in two consecutive years or *** detection overall accuracy was 89%.change attribution overall accuracy was 92%,with higher accuracy for standreplacing wildfire and *** were assigned to the correct year with an accuracy of 89%.Outcomes of this project provide baseline information and nationally consistent data source to quantify and characterize changes in forested *** methods applied and lessons learned build confidence in the products generated and empower others to develop or refine similar satellite-based monitoring projects.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of Ving Tsun(VT)sticking-hand training on upper-limb joint position sense and muscular performance in community-dwelling middle-aged and older ***:Thirty-three adults were randomly allocated to either a VT group or a control *** VT group received VT sticking-hand training twice per week for 3 *** were taken before and after the intervention *** primary outcome was elbow-joint repositioning error,which was measured by an elbow-joint passive positioning and active repositioning test using a universal *** outcomes were upper-limb muscles'peak force and time taken to reach peak force as measured by a hand-held ***:No significant time,group or time-by-group interaction effects were found for elbow-joint repositioning error or upper-limb muscle peak force *** flexor time to peak force decreased by 33.8%from pre-test to post-test in the VT group(P=0.007).Shoulder abductor,internal and external rotator,and elbow extensor times to peak force decreased by 30.0%-35.9%in the VT%roup(Py 30.4%-37.1%in the control group(Pconclusions:VT sticking-hand training does not improve elbow-joint position sense or the maximum strength of upper-limb muscles in middle-aged and older ***,VT can improve shoulder flexor muscles'time to reach peak force in these *** had no obvious effect on the time required to reach peak force in other shoulder muscles and elbow extensors.
