Dynamic monitoring of serum liver function indexes in patients with COVID-19

BACKGROUND Some patients with the novel 2019 coronavirus disease(COVID-19)display elevated liver *** antiviral drugs that can be used against COVID-19 are associated with a risk of *** To analyze the clinical significance of the dynamic monitoring of the liver function of patients with *** This was a retrospective study of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in January and February 2020 at the Department of Infection,Shantou Central *** exclusion criteria for all patients were:(1)History of chronic liver disease;(2)History of kidney disease;(3)History of coronary heart disease;(4)History of malignancy;or(5)History of *** serum levels of alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),γ-glutamyltransferase,and total bilirubin of patients with COVID-19 were measured on days 1,3,7 and 14 after admission,and compared to non-COVID-19 *** Twelve patients with COVID-19(seven men and five women)and twelve controls(eight men and four women)were *** were one,two,and nine patients with severe,mild,and moderate COVID-19,*** were no differences in age and sex between the two groups(both P>0.05).No significant differences were found in albumin,ALT,AST,γ-glutamyltransferase,or total bilirubin between the controls and the patients with COVID-19 on day 1 of hospitalization(all P>0.05).Serum albumin showed a decreasing trend from days 0 to 7 of hospitalization,reaching the lowest level on day *** bilirubin was higher on day 3 than on day ***,AST,andγ-glutamyltransferase did not change significantly over *** severe patient was observed to have ALT levels of 67 U/L and AST levels of 75 U/L on day 7,ALT of 71 U/L and AST of 35 U/L on day 14,and ALT of 210 U/L and AST of 123 U/L on day *** Changes in serum liver function indicators are not obvious in the early stage of COVID-19,but clinically significant changes might be observed in severe COVID-19.

Biological sources, paleoenvironment, and organic matter enrichment in source rocks of the Ordovician Majiagou Formation, Ordos Basin, China:Evidence from biomarkers,microfossils, and inorganic geochemical analyses

Carbonate deposits in the Ordovivian Majiagou Formation are significant source rocks for natural gas generation in the Ordos Basin, northwestern China. Previous studies mainly focused on the organic matter enrichment mechanism of shales rather than carbonate rocks. The biological sources and paleoenvironment of carbonate source rocks, and the main controlling factors of organic matter enrichment in the carbonate source rocks were studied in this paper in combination with evidence from biomarkers, microfossils and inorganic geochemistry analysis. The results show that four types of microfacies were identified in the Majiagou Formation, respectively as: mud flat microfacies, mud-dolomite flat microfacies, dolomite flat microfacies, and open marine microfacies. The biological sources of organic matter are chiefly planktonic algae, followed by bacteria. The mud flat and mud-dolomite flat contain a high abundance of terrigenous detrital inputs, as indicated by the high content of Al_(2)O_(3), TiO_(2), Th, and Zr. The low Sr/Cu and high Rb/Sr values reveal warm and humid paleoclimate conditions in the mud flat and mud-dolomite flat, whereas the dolomite flat and open marine were likely formed in hot and arid paleoclimate conditions. The mud flat and mud-dolomite flat deposits were characterized by high paleoproductivity of the Majiagou Formation. Low Sr/Ba values were found in the mud flat samples, indicating fresh to brackish water condition, whereas samples of other facies have a relatively high degree of salinity. Based on U_(auth), Mo_(auth), Cr_(auth), Co_(auth), δCe, and δEu values, the mud flat microfacies was formed in a suboxic and anoxic environment, whereas the mud-dolomite flat, dolomite flat and open marine microfacies were within dysoxic to oxic conditions. A model of organic matter enrichment in the Majiagou Formation is thus established. Two novel phosphors LiBa_(4(1-x))Eu_(4x)Ta_(3)O_(12)(H-LBTO:xEu^(3+)) and Li_(0.25)Ba_(1-x)Eu_(x)Ta_(0.75)O_(3)(C-LBTO:xEu^(3+))were prepared successfully by a molten salt *** transformation between these two structures was realized by changing the sintering temperature or changing the Eu^(3+) ions concentration,which was also demonstrated by the X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),diffuse reflectance spectra(DRS),and photoluminescence excitation(PLE) analyses,Both the sintering temperature and the Eu^(3+)ions doping concentration have significant impact on the formation of the crystal *** these phosphors sintered at 1023 K exhibit two major luminescence lines at 594 and 614 nm under nearuV light of 395 nm excitation,corresponding to Eu^(3+)ions typical transitions of ^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(1) and ^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(2).The optimum concentration of Eu^(3+) ions is 9 mol% for C-LBTO:xEu^(3+) samples and the quenching interaction type is the nearest-neighbor ion *** thermal stability of the C-LBTO:0.09Eu^(3+)sample was investigated in detail and the device application further suggests that C-LBTO:0.09Eu^(3+) can be used as a red phosphor for near-UV excited w-LEDs in lighting.

Investigation of Maxima Assumptions in Modelling Tropical Cyclone- Induced Hazards in the South China Sea

The present study aims to examine the suitability of two commonly used assumptions that simplify modelling metoceanconditions for designing offshore wind turbines in the South China Sea (SCS). The first assumption assumes thatjoint N-year extreme wind and wave events can be independently estimated and subsequently combined. The secondone assumes peak wind and waves can be modelled as occurring simultaneously during a tropical cyclone (TC) *** better understand the potential TC activity, a set of 10000 years synthetic TC events are generated. The wind fieldmodel and the Mike 21 spectral wave model are employed to model the TC-induced hazards. Subsequently, theeffect of the assumptions is evaluated by analyzing the peak structural response of both monopile and semisubmersibleoffshore wind turbines during TC events. The results demonstrate that the examined assumptions are generally *** assessing the implications of these assumptions, valuable insights are obtained, which can inform andimprove the modelling of TC-induced hazards in the SCS region.

Feasibility of medical radioisotope production based on the proton beams at China Spallation Neutron Source
