Nanoparticles(NPs)play a vital role in the energy catalysis process,so understanding the heterogeneous catalytic properties of nanocatalysts is of great significance for rationally guiding the design of catalysts.However,the traditional method obtains the average information based on the whole and cannot study the catalytic activity of a single nanoparticle.It is critical to investigate the catalytic activity of individual nanoparticles using in situ techniques.This review summarizes some of Prof.Xu's recent accomplishments in studying the catalytic behavior of nanoparticles at the single-particle level using single-molecule fluorescence microscopy(SMFM).These achievements include revealing the effect of size,shape,and surface atoms of Pd nanoparticles on catalytic kinetics and dynamics as well as obtaining the activation energy of single Au nanoparticles for catalytic reactions by single-molecule methods.It is the first time to study the kinetics and dynamics of single-atom Pt catalysts.Furthermore,the method was extended to study the Pt deactivation process for hydrogen oxidation reactions as well as the catalytic kinetics of two-electron oxygen reduction reactions of individual Fe3O4 nanoparticles in electrocatalysis.Finally,single-molecule super-resolution techniques were used to observe the evolution of the activity of single Sb doped TiO2 nanorod domains.These studies are of guiding significance for in-depth understanding and realization of rational design of optimal catalysts.

Deep Analysis of Power Equipment Defects Based on Semantic Framework Text Mining Technology

Defect factors and their relevant rules can be analyzed in depth by processing defect records which are often expressed in the form of text data.However,considering that defect text consists of both structured and unstructured data,it is necessary to excavate structured information from unstructured data.In this paper,a text mining method based on semantic framework technology is introduced to transform unstructured defect description into structured information such as components and defect attributes.Then,a deep analyzing model of a power equipment defect is established,which provides a scheme of defect mining based on historical defect texts.Case studies prove that the proposed deep analysis method has a guiding significance for equipment upgrading,selection and maintenance.

The study of the polaron of an open quantum system plays an important role in verifying the effectiveness of an approximate many-body theory and predicting novel quantum phenomena in open quantum systems. In a pioneering work, Piazza et al.(2021) proposed a Fermi-polaron scheme with a lossy impurity, which exhibits a novel long-lived attractive polaron branch in the quantum Zeno limit. However, we have encountered a counterpart problem in which an impurity interacting with an open quantum bath scatters exciting polarons, which is what we focus on. In this work, we determine through analytical research the molecular state under the two limits of vanishingly small and infinitely large dissipation intensities as well as the reason why the dissipation range leads to a decrease in the gap between the molecular state and the molecule-hole continuum in the former case.The spectrum functions of molecular and polaron states with different dissipation ranges and loss rates are investigated. We find the spectral signals of molecular and polaron states will first diffuse and then revive as the dissipation increases. Moreover, we show that the attractive and repulsive polarons respond differently to an increasing dissipation range in our model. Finally, we exhibit the polaron energy, residue, effective mass, and two-body decay for mass-balanced and imbalanced systems. Our results might be useful for cold-atom experiments on open quantum systems.

Targeted Management of Perovskite Film by Co(Ⅱ)Sulfophenyl Porphyrin for Efficient and Stable Solar Cells

In the lead halide perovskite solar cells(PSCs),the redox reaction of I-and Pb^(2+) ions in perovskite materials under the fabrication and operation processes causes the formation of defects to destroy the cell efficiency and long-term stability.Herein,we have employed a Co(Ⅱ)sulfophenyl porphyrin(CoTPPS)to modify the perovskite film.The sulfonic group could coordinate with Pb2+to efficiently passivate the uncoordinated Pb^(2+).Additionally,Co^(2+) ions in CoTPPS could react with I^(2) generated under the thermal and light stress to yield the Co^(3+) and I^(-),thus achieving the regeneration of I^(-) in perovskite film.Therefore,the CoTPPS could realize the targeted management of the imperfections in perovskite film.As a result,the modified PSCs reveal the remarkably enhanced cell perfor-mance.More importantly,the CoTPPS modified device retains 75%of its initial efficiency value storing at 85℃for 2000 h and about 70%of its efficiency when being continuously illuminated at a simulated sunlight for 1200 h.This strategy tackles the chemical reaction and inhibits the defect generation,thus improving the operational stability and efficiency of PSCs.

Temperature determines the shift of thermal neutral zone and influences thermogenic capacity in striped hamsters

The thermoneutral zone(TNZ)reﬂects the adaptation of mammals to their natural habitat.However,it remains unclear how TNZ shifts in response to variations in ambient temperature.To test the hypothesis that ambient temperature plays a key role in determining TNZ variations between seasons,we measured metabolic rate,body temperature,and cytochrome c oxidase(COX)activity of several visceral organs in striped hamsters(Cricetulus barabensis)either acclimated to semi-natural conditions over a year,or subjected to a gradual decrease in mean temperature from 30±1°C to-15±1°C.The TNZ range in striped hamsters differed seasonally,with a wider TNZ and a lower lower-critical temperature in winter compared to summer.The hamsters showed a consider-able leftward shift of lower-critical temperature from 30°C to 20°C after the ambient temperature of acclimation from 30°C down to-15°C,whereas the upper-critical temperature of TNZ remainedﬁxed at 32.5°C.The rest-ing metabolic rate in thermoneutral zone(RMRt),nonshivering thermogenesis(NST),and COX activity of brown adipose tissue,liver,skeletal muscle,brain,and kidneys,increased signiﬁcantly in hamsters acclimated at lower ambient temperatures.Following acute exposure to 5°C and-15°C,hamsters acclimated to 32.5°C had signiﬁ-cantly lower maximal NST and lower serum thyroid tri-iodothyronine(T3)levels compared to those kept at 23°C.Theseﬁndings suggest that acclimation to the upper-critical temperature of TNZ impairs the hamsters’thermo-genic capacity to cope with extreme cold temperature.Reduced ambient temperature was mainly responsible for the leftward shift of TNZ in striped hamsters,which reﬂects the adaptation to cold environments.

Accuracy improvement for classifying retinal OCT images by diseases using deep learning-based selective denoising approach

In ophthalmology,retinal optical coherence tomography(OCT)images with noticeable structural features help identify human eyes as healthy or diseased.The recently hot arti ficial intelligence(AI)realized this recognition process automatically.However,speckle noise in the original retinal OCT image reduces the accuracy of disease classi fication.This study presents a timesaving approach based on deep learning to improve classi fication accuracy by removing the noise from the original dataset.Firstly,four pre-trained convolutional neural networks(CNNs)from the ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge(ILSVRC)were trained to classify the original images into two categories:The noise reduction required(NRR)and the noise-free(NF)images.Among the CNNs,VGG19 BN performed best with 98%accuracy and 99%recall.Then,we used the block-matching and 3D filtering(BM3D)algorithm to denoise the NRR images.Those noise-removed NRR and the NF images form the processed dataset.The quality of images in the dataset is prominently ameliorated after denoising,which is valid to improve the models'performance.The original and processed datasets were tested on the four pre-trained CNNs to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed approach.We have compared the CNNs,and the results show the performance of the CNNs trained with the processed dataset is improved by an average of 2.04%,5.19%,and 5.10%under overall accuracy(OA),Macro F1-score,and Micro F1-score,respectively.Especially for DenseNet161,the OA is improved to 98.14%.Our proposed method demonstrates its effectiveness in improving classi fication accuracy and opens a new solution to reduce denoising time-consuming for large datasets.

The first step in the analysis of high-throughput experiment results is often to identify genes orproteins with certain characteristics, such as genes being differentially expressed (DE). To gainmore insights into the underlying biology, functional enrichment analysis is then conductedto provide functional interpretation for the identified genes or proteins. The hypergeometricP value has been widely used to investigate whether genes from predefined functional terms,e.g., Reactome, are enriched in the DE genes. The hypergeometric P value has several limitations: (1) computed independently for each term, thus neglecting biological dependence;(2) subject to a size constraint that leads to the tendency of selecting less-specific terms. In this paper,a Bayesian approach is proposed to overcome these limitations by incorporating the interconnected dependence structure of biological functions in the Reactome database through a CARprior in a Bayesian hierarchical logistic model. The inference on functional enrichment is thenbased on posterior probabilities that are immune to the size constraint. This method can detectmoderate but consistent enrichment signals and identify sets of closely related and biologicallymeaningful functional terms rather than isolated terms. The performance of the Bayesian methodis demonstrated via a simulation study and a real data application.

Colored Measurement Noise(CMN)has a great impact on the accuracy of human localization in indoor environments with Inertial Navigation System(INS)integrated with Ultra Wide Band(UWB).To mitigate its influence,a distributed Kalman Filter(dKF)is developed for Gauss-Markov CMN with switching Colouredness Factor Matrix(CFM).In the proposed scheme,a data fusion filter employs the difference between the INS-and UWB-based distance measurements.The main filter produces a final optimal estimate of the human position by fusing the estimates from local filters.The effect of CMN is overcome by using measurement differencing of noisy observations.The tests show that the proposed dKF developed for CMN with CFM can reduce the localization error compared to the original dKF,and thus effectively improve the localization accuracy.

Paper packaging materials like cardboards are widely used to protect archives which are a major kind of cultural relics.Unfortunately,paper is a combustible material,and thus exploring environment-friendly flame retardant for paper-based archive packaging material plays an important role.Herein,boric acid,borax and disodium octaborate are used to modify the craft paper-based packaging materials for archive conservation to improve fire safety.The modified craft paper exhibits much higher flame retardancy than the pristine one dose based on vertical burning tests,without much influence on mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation at break.Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),scanning electron microscope(SEM),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)reveal that porous glass structure is formed during the combustion,because thermal decomposition of boric acid,borax and disodium octaborate will produce porous glassy matter as B_(2)O_(3).The porous glass covers the paper surface as an insulating layer which retards the further pyrolysis and combustion,resulting in a denser carbon layer.Our study provides a robust way to reduce the fire hazard of the archive packaging material by applying environment-friendly boron-based fire retardants.
