Evaluation of the EMBOPIPE flow diverter device: in vivo and in vitro experiments

Background Although flow diverter device (FDD) has brought revolutionized advances in endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms, it also presents considerable drawbacks as well, as the innovation for novel device has never stopped. This preclinical research aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a newly developed FDD, the EMBOPIPE, through in vivo and in vitro *** Aneurysms were induced in 20 New Zealand white rabbits which were randomized to three follow-up groups according to the time elapsed after EMBOPIPE implantation (28, 90, and 180 days). Additional EMBOPIPEs were implanted in the abdominal aorta to cover the renal artery in nine rabbits. Angiography was performed immediately after device placement in all groups. Aneurysm occlusion, patency of renal arteries, and pathological outcomes were assessed. For the in vitro experiments, we measured the thrombogenic potential of EMBOPIPEs (n = 5) compared with bare stents (n = 5) using the Chandler loop model. Evaluation indicators were the platelet counts, macroscopic observations and scanning electron *** EMBOPIPEs were successfully deployed in 19 of 20 rabbit aneurysms (95.0%). The rates of complete or near-complete aneurysm occlusion were 73.3%, 83.3%, and 100% in the 28-, 90-, and 180-day groups, respectively. All renal arteries covered by EMBOPIPEs remained patent, and the mean difference in renal artery diameter before and after the device placement in the three groups was 0.07 mm, 0.10 mm, and 0.10 mm, respectively (p = 0.77). Renal pathology was normal in all cases. The pathological findings of the aneurysms were as follows: thickened and adequate neointimal coverage at the aneurysm neck, minimal inflammatory response, near-complete smooth muscle cell layer, and endothelialization along the device. Influence of supercritical CO2 on the physical property of tight sandstone

In low-pressure gas reservoirs, water-based fracture fluid is difficult to flowback, which is unfavorable for several tight sandstone gas reservoirs in the Sichuan Basin with low pressure and high permeability geological characteristics. Supercritical CO2 possesses a number of remarkable physical and chemical features, including a density near to water, a viscosity close to gas, and high diffusion. Supercritical CO2 fracturing is a new type of non-aqueous fracturing method that is favorable to fracturing flowback in low-pressure tight sandstone and has a wide range of applications. To discuss on whether supercritical CO2 fracturing with low pressure tight sandstone is feasible. Tight sandstone cores from the Jinqiu gas field in the Sichuan Basin were used to study the influence of supercritical CO2 on the physical properties of sandstone reservoirs. Supercritical CO2 was used to interact with tight sandstone samples, and then the changes in porosity, permeability, and rock microstructure of tight sandstone were observed under various time, pressure, and temperature conditions. After the interaction between tight sandstone and supercritical CO2, new dissolution pores will appear, or the original pores will be increased, and the width of some natural fractures will also be increased, and the porosity will increase by 1.09%-8.85%, and the permeability will increase by 2.34%-21.26%, quantifying the influence of supercritical CO2 on physical properties of tight sandstone, and further improving the interaction mechanism between supercritical CO2 and tight sandstone. This study improves in the understanding of the tight sandstone-supercritical CO2 interaction mechanism, as well as providing an experimental foundation and technological guarantee for field testing and use of supercritical CO2 in low-pressure tight sandstone gas reservoirs. Fresh wet noodles(FWN) are popular staple foods due to its unique chewy texture and favorable taste. However,the development of FWN is limited by its short shelf life and high browning rate. It has been found that the quantity of original microorganisms in wheat flour produced by traditional method is relatively high, which is detrimental to the processing quality and storage stability of FWN. Consequently, it becomes imperative to decrease microorganisms in wheat flour. Microwave treatment has been regarded as a promising method in the food industry due to its potential in inhibiting microbial growth and inactivating enzymes without causing adverse effect on the food quality. This study aims to investigate the effects of microwave treatment of wheat kernels under different powers(1, 2, 3, 4, 5 kW) on the physicochemical properties of wheat flour and the quality of FWN. The results revealed that microwave treatment had a significant effect on microbial inhibition and enzyme inactivation, wherein the total plate count(TPC) and yeast and mold counts(YMC) decreased by 0.87 lg(CFU/g) and 1.13 lg(CFU/g) respectively, and PPO activity decreased from 11.40 U to 6.31 U. The dough quality properties, such as stability, extensibility, and starch viscosity, improved significantly under different microwave conditions. Confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM) images indicated that starch and proteins aggregated gradually in treated flour, altering rheological properties of dough. From the results of scanning electron microscopy(SEM), microwave treatment led to the appearance of disrupted structure in the gluten proteins, but the secondary structure of proteins altered slightly. Rheological properties of dough confirmed that the microwave treatment greatly affected processing characteristics of wheat flour products, with significant advantageous consequences on product quality, especially for textural properties of FWN.
