Nowadays,due to uncontrolled synthesis and lack of more direct and systematic evidences,the photoluminescence origin of“zero-dimensional”Cs4PbI6 remains great controversy and the luminescence cannot be *** we propose a controllable dissolution-recrystallization method to synthesize“emissive”and“non-emissive”Cs4PbI6 nanocrystals(NCs)*** comparing“emissive”and“non-emissive”Cs4PbI6 NCs,it is clearly proved that the visible emission in“emissive”Cs4PbI6 NCs comes from embedded CsPbI3 quantum dots(QDs).It is found for CsPbI3@Cs4PbI6 nanocomposites,methyl acetate(MeAC)and cyclohexane play an important role in dissolution and recrystallization respectively to obtain Cs4PbI6 matrix and CsPbI3 *** from this two-step method,the as-synthesized CsPbI3@Cs4PbI6 nanocomposites with CsPbI3 QDs uniformly distributed in Cs4PbI6 matrix are bright with photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY)up to 71.4%and exhibit improved stability than CsPbI3 ***,utilizing its formation mechanism,the size of embedded CsPbI3 QDs can be controlled by reasonable designing the“dissolution”process,so that the luminescence of this CsPbI3@Cs4PbI6 nanocomposites can be adjusted in a wide range from green to red(554–630 nm).Our finding not only provides a novel method for synthesizing tunable“emissive”Cs4PbI6 NCs,but also makes clear the photoluminescence origin of“emissive”Cs4PbI6.

Composites of sodium manganese oxides with enhanced electrochemical performance for sodium-ion batteries: Tailoring properties via controlling microstructure

Composites of Na_(0.44)Mn O_2, Na_(0.7)Mn O_(2.05), and Na_(0.91) Mn O_2 were synthesized by facile solid-state reaction, ball milling, and annealing methods. Two different composites of identical overall composition but drastically different morphologies and microstructures were synthesized. A composite of a hierarchical porous microstructure with primary and secondary particles(i.e., a "meatball-like" microstructure) achieved an excellent stable capacity of 126 m A h g^(-1) after 100 cycles. The rate capability of the composite could be dramatically enhanced by another round of high-energy ball milling and reannealing; subsequently, a composite that was made up of irregular rods was obtained, for which the capacity was improved by more than 230% to achieve ~53 m A h g^(-1) at a particularly high discharge rate of 50 C. This study demonstrated the feasibility of tailoring the electrochemical performance of electrode materials by simply changing their microstructures via facile ball milling and heat treatments, which can be particularly useful for optimizing composite electrodes for sodium-ion batteries.

Numerical Investigation of Inlet Distortion on an Axial Flow Compressor Rotor with Circumferential Groove Casing Treatment

On the base of an assumed steady inlet circumferential total pressure distortion, three-dimensional time-dependent numerical simulations are conducted on an axial flow subsonic compressor rotor. The performances and flow fields of a compressor rotor, either casing treated or untreated, are investigated in detail either with or without inlet pressure distortion. Results show that the circumferential groove casing treatment can expand the operating range of the compressor rotor either with or without inlet pressure distortion at the expense of a drop in peak isentropic efficiency. The casing treatment is capable of weakening or even removing the tip leakage vortex effectively either with or without inlet distortion. In clean inlet circumstances, the enhancement and forward movement of tip leakage vortex cause the untreated compressor rotor to stall. By contrast, with circumferential groove casing, the serious flow separation on the suction surface leads to aerodynamic stalling eventually. In the presence of inlet pressure distortion, the blade loading changes from passage to passage as the distorted inflow sector is traversed. Similar to the clean inlet circumstances, with a smooth wall casing, the enhancement and forward movement of tip leakage vortex are still the main factors which lead to the compressor rotor stalling eventually. When the rotor works trader near stall conditions, the blockage resulting from the tip leakage vortex in all the passages is very serious. Especially in several passages, flow-spillage is observed. Compared to the clean inlet circumstances, circumferential groove casing treatment can also eliminate the low energy zone in the outer end wall region effectively.

Effects of UV-B treatment on controlling lignification and quality of bamboo (Phyllostachys prominens) shoots without sheaths during cold storage

For evaluating the effects of UV-B treatment on lignification and quality of bamboo(Phyllostachys prominens) shoots during postharvest, fresh bamboo shoots without sheaths were irradiated with UV-B at a dose of 8.0 kJ m^(–2) and then stored at(6±1)℃ along with 85–90% relative humidity(RH) for 15 d. The results showed that UV-B treatment apparently slowed down the increase rates of flesh firmness, weight loss, and contents of cellulose and lignin. It also decreased the activities of 4-coumarate CoA ligase(4CL), peroxidase(POD), cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase(CAD) and phenylalanine ammonialyase(PAL) and the expression of their encoding genes during cold storage. It was suggested that these effects of UV-B treatment on decreases in these enzymatic activities and the expression of encoding genes might collectively regulate lignin synthesis and accumulation in the flesh of bamboo shoots and consequently benefit in maintaining the edible quality of bamboo shoots during cold storage.

Interactive Effects of Elevated CO_2 and Temperature on Rice Planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens

It is predicted that the current atmospheric CO2 concentration will be doubled and global mean temperature will increase by 1.5-6＆#176;C by the end of this century. Although a number of studies have addressed the separate effects of CO2 and temperature on plant-insect interactions, few have concerned with their combined impacts. In the current study, a factorial experiment was carried out to examine the effect of a doubling CO2 concentration and a 3℃ temperature increase on a complete generation of the brown planthopper （Nilaparvata lugens） on rice （Oryza sativa）. Both elevated CO2 and temperature increased rice stem height and biomass of stem parts. Leaf chlorophyll content increased under elevated CO2, but only in ambient temperature treatment. Water content of stem parts was reduced under elevated temperature, but only when coupled with elevated CO2. Elevated CO2 alone increased biomass of root and elevated temperature alone enhanced leaf area and reduced ratio of root to stem parts. Brown planthopper （BPH） nymphal development was accelerated, and weight of and honeydew excretion by the F1 adults was reduced under elevated temperature only. Longevity of brachypterous females was affected by a signiifcant interaction between CO2 and temperature. At elevated temperature, CO2 had no effect on female longevity, but at ambient temperature, the females lived shorter under elevated CO2. Female fecundity was higher at elevated than at ambient temperature and higher at elevated CO2 than at ambient CO2. These results indicate that the combined effects of elevated temperature and CO2 may enhance the brown planthopper population size.

Online Condition Monitoring of Gripper Cylinder in TBM Based on EMD Method

The gripper cylinder that provides braced force for Tunnel Boring Machine （TBM） might fail due to severe vibration when the TBM excavates in the tunnel. Early fault diagnosis of the gripper cylinder is important for the safety and efficiency of the whole tunneling project. In this paper, an online condition monitoring system based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition （EMD） method is estab- lished for fault diagnosis of the gripper cylinder while TBM is working. Firstly, the lumped mass parameter model of the gripper cylinder is established considering the influence of the variable stiffness at the rock interface, the equivalent stiffness of the oil, the seals, and the copper guide sleeve. The dynamic performance of the gripper cylinder is investigated to provide basis for its health condition evaluation. Then, the EMD method is applied to identify the characteristic frequencies of the gripper cylinder for fault diagnosis and a field test is used to verify the accuracy of the EMD method for detection of the characteristic frequencies. Furthermore, the contact stiff- ness at the interface between the barrel and the rod is calculated with Hertz theory and the relationship between the natural frequency and the stiffness varying with the health condition of the cylinder is simulated based on the dynamic model. The simulation shows that the character- istic frequencies decrease with the increasing clearance between the barrel and the rod, thus the defects could be indicated by monitoring the natural frequency. Finally, a health condition management system of the gripper cylin- der based on the vibration signal and the EMD method is established, which could ensure the safety of TBM.

Solute-solute interactions and their impacts on solute co-segregation and interfacial cohesion of{1012}twin boundary in zinc

Interactions of solute atoms in biodegradable zinc alloys and their effect on alloy mechanical properties have been less *** this work,the interactions between the common solutes(Li,Mg,Mn,Cu,and Ag)used in the biodegradable Zn alloys,including a solute-solute pair with the same element or with two different elements,are investigated based on first-principles *** is found that the energetically favorable configuration is the third nearest-neighboring for most solute-solute pairs in the bulk lattice because of the relatively strong electronic interaction between solute and Zn atoms or the relatively small local elastic deformation associated with the *** that interfacial cleavage is a key fracture mode of zinc,the segregation ability of these solutes and their effect on the{1012}twin boundary cohesion are also *** result shows that Li tends to fully occupy its preferred site in the twin boundary,while Mg,Mn,Cu,or Ag has a concentration limitation in the twin *** twin boundary cohesion can be significantly enhanced by the segregation of Mn,followed by Cu and Ag,because of the contribution of their d states close to the Fermi ***,the co-segregation ability of two solute atoms in the twin boundary increases with increasing the binding tendency of these two solute atoms in the *** and Li or Mg show a relatively strong co-segregation ability in the twin *** Mn to Zn-Li or Zn-Mg alloys can significantly enhance the resistance to fracture of twin boundaries.

Efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine for lumbar disc herniation: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials

OBJECTIVE： This is a review of the effects of Chi- nese herbal medicine （CHM） used alone to treat lumbar disc herniation （LDH）. METHORDS： A literature search of the following electronic databases from their inception to Febru- ary 2013 was conducted： Chinese Biomedical data- bases, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database, Cochrane Library, Web of Sci- ence, MEDlinE, and EMBASE. Randomized con- trolled trials where CHM had been used to treat LDH were selected. Data extraction, quality assess- ment, and data analysis were carried out by two in- dependent reviewers. RESULTS： Of the 2415 studies identified, eight with complete data on 1146 patients were selected. The methodological quality was poor in all trials. Five studies reported that CHM was better than WesternMedicine [OR=2.81, 95% CI （1.27, 6.18）; OR=3.34, 95% CI （1.92, 5.79）; 0R=2.22, 95% CI （1.08, 4.57）; OR= 6.67, 95% CI （1.34, 33.28）; and OR=1.94, 95% CI （1.23, 3.06）]. Two studies reported that the clinical outcome was better in CHM groups than in physio- therapy and placebo groups, [OR=3.02, 9.5% CI （1.08, 8.46）; and OR=2.67, 95% CI （1.26, 5.64）, re- spectively], whereas one study reported no differ- ence between CHM and physiotherapy groups. One study reported that CHM resulted in higher Japanese Orthopedic Association scores [MD=7.78, 95% CI （6.67, 8.89）] than in a control group and an- other that participants treated with CHM had lower Visual Analogue Scale scores [MD=- 0.72, 95% CI （ - 0.86, 0.58）] than those in a control group. Three studies reported that the adverse effects of CHM and Western Medicine did not differ signifi- cantly [OR=0.10, 95% CI （0.01, 1.85）; OR=0.19, 95% CI （0.01,4.07）; and OR=O.07, 95% CI （0.00, 1.32）]. CONCLUSION： CHM may be more effective than other interventions for LDH; however, methodologi- cal weaknesses in the studies assessed in this re- view prevent a definitive conclusion. Relationship between expression of gastrin, somatostatin,Fas/FasL and caspases in large intestinal carcinoma

AIM: To explore the correlation between the mRNAs and protein expression of gastrin (GAS), somatostatin (SS) and apoptosis index (AI), apoptosis regulation gene Fas/ FasL and caspases in large intestinal carcinoma (LIC). METHODS: Expression of GAS and SS mRNAs were detected by nested RT-PCR in 79 cases of LIC. Cell apoptosis was detected by molecular biology in situ apoptosis detecting methods (TUNEL). Immunohistochemical staining for GAS, SS, Fas/FasL, caspase-3 and caspase-8 was performed according to the standard streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase (S-P) method. RESULTS: There was a significant positive correlation between mRNA and protein expression of GAS and SS (GASrs=0.99, P < 0.01; SSrs = 0.98, P < 0.01). There was significant difference in positive expression rates of GAS, SS mRNAs and protein among different histological differentiation, histological types and Dukes’ stage of LIC. The AI in GAS high and moderate expression groups was significantly lower than that in low expression groups (3.75 ± 2.38 vs 7.82 ± 2.38, P < 0.01; 5.51 ± 2.66 vs 7.82 ± 2.38, P < 0.01), and the AI in SS high and moderate expression groups was significantly higher than that in low expression groups (9.03 ± 1.76 vs 5.35 ± 3.00, P < 0.01; 7.44 ± 2.67 vs 5.35 ± 3.00, P < 0.01). There was a significant negative correlation between the integral ratio of GAS to SS and the AI (rs = -0.41, P < 0.01). The positive expression rate of FasL in GAS high and moderate expression groups was higher than thatin low expression group (90.9% and 81.0% vs 53.2%, P < 0.05). The positive expression rates of Fas, caspase-8 and caspase-3 in SS high (90.0%, 90.0% and 100%) and moderate (80.0%, 70.0%, 75.0%) expression groups were higher than that in low expression group (53.1%, 42.9%, 49.0%) (90.0% and 80.0% vs 53.1%, P < 0.05; 90.0% and 70.0% vs 42.9%, P < 0.05; 100.0% and 75.0% vs 49.0%, P < 0.05).
