Biological structural materials not only exhibit remarkable mechanical properties but also often embody dynamic characteristics such as environmental responsiveness,autonomy,and self-healing,which are difficult to achieve in conventional engineering *** merging materials science,synthetic biology,and other disciplines,engineered living materials(ELMs)provide a promising solution to combine living organisms with abiotic components,thus facilitating the construction of functional“living”*** natural materials,ELMs possess vitality and hold immense application potential in areas such as medicine,electronics,and construction,captivating increasing research attention *** an emerging branch of ELMs,structural ELMs aim to mimic living biological structural materials by achieving desired mechanical performance while maintaining important“living”*** we summarize the recent progress and provide our perspectives for this emerging research *** first summarize the superiority of structural ELMs by reviewing biological structural materials and biomimetic material design ***,we provide a systematic discussion on the definition and classifications of structural ELMs,their mechanical performance,and physiological ***,we summarize some critical challenges faced by structural ELMs and highlight directions of future *** hope this review article can provide a timely summary of the state of the art and relevant perspectives for future development of structural ELMs.

Anti-osteosarcoma trimodal synergistic therapy using NiFe-LDH and MXene nanocomposite for enhanced biocompatibility and efficacy

Osteosarcoma is usually resistant to immunotherapy and,thus primarily relies on surgical resection and high-dosage ***,less invasive or toxic therapies such as photothermal therapy(PTT)and chemodynamic therapy(CDT)generally failed to show satisfactory *** multimodal therapies with proper safety profiles may provide better solutions for ***,a simple nanocomposite that synergistically combines CDT,PTT,and chemotherapy for osteosarcoma treatment was *** this composite,small 2D Ni Fe-LDH flakes were processed into 3D hollow nanospheres via template methods to encapsulate 5-Fluorouracil(5-FU)with high loading *** nanospheres were then adsorbed onto larger 2D Ti3C2MXene monolayers and finally shielded by bovine serum albumin(BSA)to form 5-FU@Ni Fe-LDH/Ti3C2/BSA nanoplatforms(5NiTiB).Both in vitro and in vivo data demonstrated that the 5-FU induced chemotherapy,Ni Fe-LDH driven chemodynamic effects,and MXene-based photothermal killing collectively exhibited a synergistic“all-in-one”anti-tumor effect.5NiTiB improved tumor suppression rate fromling the fine-tuning of dosages to suit different ***,the platform is versatile and efficient,with potential for further development.

Pig H3K4me3,H3K27ac,and gene expression profiles reveal reproductive tissue-specific activity of transposable elements

Improving the Short-Range Precipitation Forecast of Numerical Weather Prediction through a Deep Learning-Based Mask Approach

Due to various technical issues,existing numerical weather prediction(NWP)models often perform poorly at forecasting rainfall in the first several *** correct the bias of an NWP model and improve the accuracy of short-range precipitation forecasting,we propose a deep learning-based approach called UNet Mask,which combines NWP forecasts with the output of a convolutional neural network called *** UNet Mask involves training the UNet on historical data from the NWP model and gridded rainfall observations for 6-hour precipitation *** overlap of the UNet output and the NWP forecasts at the same rainfall threshold yields a *** UNet Mask blends the UNet output and the NWP forecasts by taking the maximum between them and passing through the mask,which provides the corrected 6-hour rainfall *** evaluated UNet Mask on a test set and in real-time *** results showed that UNet Mask outperforms the NWP model in 6-hour precipitation prediction by reducing the FAR and improving CSI *** tests also showed that different small rainfall thresholds applied to the UNet and the NWP model have different effects on UNet Mask's forecast *** study shows that UNet Mask is a promising approach for improving rainfall forecasting of NWP models.

Effect of screening colonoscopy frequency on colorectal cancer mortality in patients with a family history of colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor in China,and its incidence in the elderly is increasing *** bowel disease is a group of chronic non-specific intestinal inflammatory diseases,including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s *** included the clinicopathological and follow-up data of patients with colorectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic colectomy or open colectomy at our Gastrointestinal Department between January 2019 and December *** indicators,oncological indicators,and survival rates were compared between the *** results of 104 patients who met the above criteria were extracted from the database(laparoscopic colectomy group=63,open colectomy group=41),and there were no statistically significant differences in the baseline data or follow-up time between the two *** Intraoperative blood loss,time to first ambulation,and time to first fluid intake were significantly lower in the laparoscopic colectomy group than in the open colectomy *** differences in overall mortality,tumor-related mortality,and recurrence rates between the two groups were not statistically significant,and survival analysis showed that the differences in the cumulative overall survival,tumor-related survival,and cumulative recurrence-free rates between the two groups were not statistically *** In elderly patients with colorectal cancer,laparoscopic colectomy has better short-term outcomes than open colectomy,and laparoscopic colectomy has superior long-term survival outcomes compared with open colectomy.
