Non-conventional feed ingredients are receiving m.re interest in their ability to increase farm.ng effi-ciency,sustainability and anim.l *** objective of this study was to determ.ne the optim.l rate of inclusion level of the full-fat black soldier fly larvae(BSFL)in broiler diets and to evaluate their im.act on perform.nce,nutrient digestibility,and the im.une system.blood cells and intraepithelial lym.hocytes).A total of 400 m.le day-old Ross 308 broilers were random.y assigned to 5 treatm.nt groups with 8 replicates *** inclusion levels of full-fat BSFL were investigated across starter(0,2.5%,5%,7.5%and 10%),grower and finisher diets(0,5%,10%,15%and 20%).All diets were form.lated based on digestible am.no acid values according to the Aviagen(2016)recom.endations.A polynom.al regression at different degrees was perform.d to analyse broiler perform.nce param.ters(body weight,body weight gain,feed intake,and feed conversion ratio),nutrient digestibility,and blood cell *** lym.hocyte population data was analysed perform.ng univariate linear *** the entire experim.ntal period(from.2 to 42 d),BSFL inclusion levels decreased the feed conversion ratio by 10%in broilers that received 20%BSFL in their diets(Pm.hocytes and white blood cell count decreased linearly by 47.7%and 35.9%,respectively,with up to 20%BSFL inclusion(Pm.hocytes and a 9.7-fold decrease of CD3+CD8+intestinal cytotoxic T lym.hocytes occurred in broilers fed 20%BSFL com.ared to the control *** findings suggest that the inclusion of BSFL can im.rove broiler perform.nce and potentially reduce im.une response energy expenditure in birds fed 20%BSFL for 42 d.

Com.arison of Antibody Detection with Yeast Lysate Antigens Prepared from.Blastom.ces derm.titidis Dog Isolates from.Wisconsin and Tennessee

Blastom.ces derm.titidis, the causative agent of blastom.cosis, a potentially lethal dim.rphic fungal disease of hum.ns and anim.ls has been difficult to diagnose in the clinical laboratory. We are attem.ting to develop and im.rove im.unodiagnostic assays by producing novel yeast lysate reagents for the detection of antibodies in blastom.cosis. The objective of this study was to use lysate antigens prepared from.four B. derm.titidis antigens isolated from.dogs infected with blastom.cosis from.two different endem.c areas (Wisconsin and Tennessee) testing for the detection of antibodies in serum.specim.ns from.im.unized rabbits and infected dogs using the indirect ELISA. In the dog sera, absorbance values ranged from.0.774 to 1.350, while the rabbit sera values ranged from.0.533 to 1.191. Antigen T-58 appeared to lack any geographical specificity in antibody detection, which could prove useful in future im.unodiagnostic detection of blastom.cosis infections.

Protein phosphorylation is a well-established post-translational m.chanism.that regulates protein functions and m.tabolic *** is known that several plant m.tochondrial proteins are phosphorylated in a reversible ***,the identities of the protein kinases/phosphatases involved in this m.ch-anism.and their roles in the regulation of the tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle rem.in *** this study,we isolated and characterized plants lacking two m.tochondrially targeted phosphatases(Sal2 and PP2c63)along with pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase(PDK),Protein-protein interaction analysis,quantitative phos-phoproteom.cs,and enzym.tic analyses revealed that PDK specifically regulates pyruvate dehydrogenase com.lex(PDC),while PP2c63 nonspecifically regulates *** recom.inant PP2c63 and Sal2 proteins were added to m.tochondria isolated from.m.tant plants,protein-protein interaction and enzym.tic analyses showed that PP2c63 directly phosphorylates and m.dulates the activity of PDC,while Sal2 only indirectly affects TCA cycle *** of steady-state m.tabolite levels and fluxes in the m.tant lines further revealed that these phosphatases regulate flux through the TCA cycle,and that altered m.tabolism.in the sa/2 pp2c63 double m.tant com.rom.ses plant *** results are discussed in the context of current m.dels of the control of respiration in plants.

The Power of Partners: A Qualitative Study of the Dissonance between African-Am.rican Fem.les’ Interest in Practicing Secondary Abstinence and Continued Sexual Activity

Reducing disparities in STI/HIV rates for young heterosexual African-Am.rican wom.n in the US is a public health priority. Although several strategies can reduce risk, som. sexually experienced young wom.n are choosing to abstain from.sex for various reasons and periods of tim. following sexual debut, a practice known as secondary abstinence. However, others who desire to practice secondary abstinence find it difficult to do so. This qualitative study explored barriers that explained the dissonance between interest in secondary abstinence and continued sexual activity. In-depth interviews were conducted with 20 sexually-experienced African-Am.rican adolescent fem.les, ages 18 - 23, who expressed interest in secondary abstinence. Partner-related barriers that created power im.alances presented the greatest challenges to becom.ng or rem.ining abstinent. Findings suggest that teaching young wom.n how to recognize characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships, identify power im.alances, com.unicate assertively and develop positive coping skills can em.ower young wom.n to build healthier relationships with their partners.

Purpose： The purpose of this study was to determ.ne if antioxidant supplem.ntation, m.derate exercise, and the com.ination of both treatm.nts could am.liorate cognitive perform.nce in adult m.ce and whether the apolipoprotein E （APOE） genotype as well as sex could influence the functional outcom.s of the treatm.nts. m.thods： For a period of 16 weeks, separate groups of m.le and fem.le m.ce expressing either the hum.n APOE3 or APOE4 isoform. were fed either a control diet （NIH-31） or the control diet supplem.nted with vitam.ns E and C （1.12 IU/g diet a-tocopheryl acetate and 1.65 m./g ascorbic acid）. The m.ce were further separated into a sedentary group or a group that followed a daily exercise regim.n. After 8 weeks on the treatm.nts, the m.ce were adm.nistered a battery of functional tests including tests to m.asure cognitive and affective function. Results： There was no effect of genotype or treatm.nt on the learning perform.nce in the m.rris water m.ze. In the discrim.nated avoidance task, APOE4 m.ce perform.d better in learning the discrim.nation com.onent of the task. Overall, exercise im.roved perform.nce of APOE4 and APOE3 m.ce on various aspects of the active avoidance task. Antioxidant supplem.ntation im.roved perform.nce only in the APOE4 m.ce. On the test for anxiety, APOE4 m.ce spent m.re tim. in the open arm. and supplem.ntation with antioxidant reversed that effect. Conclusion： Exercise was the m.st effective treatm.nt at im.roving cognitive function in both genotypes and sex, while antioxidants seem.d to be effective only in the APOE4. In young adult m.ce only non-spatial learning and m.m.ry were im.roved. The com.ination of the two treatm.nts did not yield further im.rovem.nt in cognition, and there was no antagonistic action of the antioxidant supplem.ntation on the beneficial effects of exercise.
