Glaucoma is a multifactorial optic neuropathy characterized by the damage and death of the retinal ganglion *** disease results in vision loss and *** vision loss resulting from the disease cannot be restored and nowadays there is no available cure for glaucoma; however an early detection and treatment,could offer neuronal protection and avoid later serious damages to the visual function.A full understanding of the etiology of the disease will still require the contribution of many scientific *** activation has been observed in glaucoma,being microglial proliferation a hallmark in this neurodegenerative disease.A typical project studying these cellular changes involved in glaucoma often needs thousands of images- from several animals- covering different layers and regions of the *** gold standard to evaluate them is the manual *** method requires a large amount of time from specialized *** is a tedious process and prone to human *** present here a new method to count microglial cells by using a computer *** counts in one hour the same number of images that a researcher counts in four weeks,with no loss of reliability.

Polyclonal antibodies directed against human recombinant basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) were used in immunohistochemical studies to localize this growth factor in normal and wounded rat skeletal muscles. bFGF immunoreactivity was found mainly in the extracellular matrix, primarily in the endomysium, including the heparin-containing basal lamina and also in the capillary basal membrane of both normal and wounded muscles, however the signal intensity was much stronger in normal muscles. After 4-hour ischemia, about 40% of skeletal muscle fibers lost their bFGF immunoreactivity. Muscles which experienced 4-hour ischemia and 24 reperfusion had only a weaker bFGF immunoreactivity. The pathological results supported the concept of destroyed cell connection and fiber necrosis in ischemia and reperfused muscles. The mechanisms involved in this reduced concentration of bFGF in wounded muscles included oxygen radical activation, inflammatory response and reduced secretion of endogenous bFGF. These results w

针对传统声发射源定位算法(如时差定位)应用于各向异性介质的局限性,将声发射层析成像方法(AE tomography)引入混凝土结构损伤定位,该算法以声发射事件作为点源,结合源定位算法和层析成像算法,通过波速变化重建物体结构缺陷(损伤)的慢度图,既适合于各向同性材料,也适合于各向异性材料.为了验证提出算法的可行性,制作了有和无钢筋2个不同结构的混凝土样本并通过了实验.实验结果表明所提出的方法不仅能通过声发射波速度变化实现损伤定位的可视化,而且相对于传统定位算法,混凝土样本结构缺陷(损伤)的定位精度也获得了进一步提高.

Testing for Deterministic Components in Vector seasonal Time series

Certain locally optimal tests for deterministic components in vector time series have associated sampling distributions determined by a linear combination of Beta variates. such distributions are nonstandard and must be tabulated by Monte Carlo simulation. In this paper, we provide closed form expressions for the mean and variance of several multivariate test statistics, moments that can be used to approximate unknown distributions. In particular, we find that the two-moment Inverse Gaussian approximation provides a simple and fast method to compute accurate quantiles and p-values in small and asymptotic samples. To illustrate the scope of this approximation we review some standard tests for deterministic trends and/or seasonal patterns in VARIMA and structural time series models.

Inflammation and tumorigenesis are tightly linked pathways impacting cancer development. Inflammasomes are key signalling platforms that detect pathogenic microorganisms, including hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection, and sterile stressors(oxidative stress, insulin resistance, lipotoxicity) able to activate pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β and IL-18. Most of the inflammasome complexes that have been described to date contain a NOD-like receptor sensor molecule. Redox state and autophagy can regulate inflammasome complex and, depending on the conditions, can be either pro-or antiapoptotic. Acute and chronic liver diseases are cytokinedriven diseases as several proinflammatory cytokines(IL-1α, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and IL-6) are critically involved in inflammation, steatosis, fibrosis, and cancer development. NLRP3 inflammasome gain of function aggravates liver disease, resulting in severe liver fibrosis and highlighting this pathway in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. On the other hand, HCV infection is the primary catalyst for progressive liver disease and development of liver cancer. It is well established that HCV-induced IL-1β production by hepatic macrophages plays a critical and central process that promotes liver inflammation and disease. In this review, we aim to clarify the role of the inflammasome in the aggravation of liver disease, and how selective blockade of this main pathway may be a useful strategy to delay fibrosis progression in liver diseases.

Meiosis is the specialized eukaryotic cell division that permits the halving of ploidy necessary for game- togenesis in sexually reproducing organisms, This involves a single round of DNA replication followed by two successive divisions. To ensure balanced segregation, homologous chromosome pairs must migrate to opposite poles at the first meiotic division and this means that they must recognize and pair with each other beforehand. Although understanding of the mechanisms by which meiotic chromosomes find and pair with their homologs has greatly advanced, it remains far from being fully understood. With some notable exceptions such as male Drosophila, the recognition and physical link- age of homologs at the first meiotic division involves homologous recombination. However, in addition to this, it is clear that many organisms, including plants, have also evolved a series of recombination-independent mechanisms to facili- tate homolog recognition and pairing. These implicate chromosome structure and dynamics, telomeres, centromeres, and, most recently, small RNAs. With a particular focus on plants, we present here an overview of understanding of these early, recombination-independent events that act in the pairing of homologous chromosomes during the first meiotic division,
