SARS cOV-2 infection causes acute and frequently severe respiratory disease with associated multi-organ damage and systemic disturbances in many biochemical *** phenotyping provides deep insights into the complex immunopathological problems that drive the resulting cOVID-19 disease and is also a source of novel metrics for assess-ing patient recovery.A multiplatform metabolic phenotyping approach to studying the pathology and systemic metabolic sequelae of cOVID-19 is considered here,together with a framework for assessing post-acute cOVID-19 Syndrome(PAcS)that is a major long-term health consequence for many *** sudden emergence of the disease presents a biological discovery challenge as we try to understand the pathological mechanisms of the disease and develop effective mitigation *** requires technologies to measure objectively the extent and sub-phenotypes of the disease at the molecular *** methods can reveal metabolic sub-phenotypes and new biomarkers that can be monitored during the acute disease phase and *** approach is scalable and translatable to other pathologies and provides as an exem-plar strategy for the investigation of other emergent zoonotic diseases with complex immunological drivers,multi-system involvements and diverse persistent symptoms.

Low visibility episodes (visibility were studied by applying the anomaly-based weather analysis method. A regional episode of low visibility associated with a coastal fog that occurred from 27 to 28 January 2016 over Ningbo- Zhoushan Port, Zhejiang Province, East china, was first examined. Some basic features from the anomalous weather analysis for this case were identified:(1) the process of low visibility mainly caused by coastal fog was a direct response to anomalous temperature inversion in the lower troposphere, with a warm center around the 925 hPa level, which was formed by a positive geopotential height (GPH) anomaly in the upper troposphere and a negative GPH anomaly near the surface;(2) the positive humidity anomaly was conducive to the formation of coastal fog and rain;(3) regional coastal fog formed at the moment when the southwesterly wind anomalies transferred to northeasterly wind anomalies. Other cases confirmed that the low visibility associated with coastal fog depends upon low-level inversion, a positive humidity anomaly, and a change of wind anomalies from southwesterly to northeasterly, rain and stratus cloud amount. The correlation coefficients of six-hourly inversion, 850?925-hPa-averaged temperature, GPH and humidity anomalies against visibility are ?0.31, 0.40 and ?0.48, respectively, reaching the 99% confidence level in the first half-years of 2015 and 2016. By applying the anomaly-based weather analysis method to medium-range model output products, such as ensemble prediction systems, the anomalous temperature?pressure pattern and humidity?wind pattern can be used to predict the process of low visibility associated with coastal fog at several days in advance.

we present comprehensive modeling of a Si GeSn multi-quantum well laser that has been previously experimentally shown to feature an order of magnitude reduction in the optical pump threshold compared to bulk *** combine experimental material data obtained over the last few years with k·p theory to adapt transport,optical gain,and optical loss models to this material system (drift-diffusion,thermionic emission,gain calculations,free carrier absorption,and intervalence band absorption). Good consistency is obtained with experimental data,and the main mechanisms limiting the laser performance are discussed. In particular,modeling results indicate a low non-radiative lifetime,in the 100 ps range for the investigated material stack,and lower than expectedΓ-L energy separation and/or carrier confinement to play a dominant role in the device properties. Moreover,they further indicate that this laser emits in transverse magnetic polarization at higher temperatures due to lower intervalence band absorption losses. To the best of our knowledge,this is the first comprehensive modeling of experimentally realized Si GeSn lasers,taking the wealth of experimental material data accumulated over the past years into account. The methods described in this paper pave the way to predictive modeling of new (Si)GeSn laser device concepts.

It is largely unknown whether lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)or acute retention of urine(AROU)is linked to shorter life expectancy in *** conducted a multicenter,retrospective database analysis of patients undergoing transurethral resection of prostate(TURP)to study their *** cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier analysis with stratification to age and indication of TURP were *** further performed an age-and sex-matched survival analysis with the general population using data from the census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(Hong Kong,china).From January 2002 to December 2012,3496 patients undergoing TURP were included in our study,with 1764 patients in the LUTS group and 1732 patients in the AROU *** age,ischemic heart disease,cerebrovascular accident,and AROU were risk factors of *** agedconfidence interval[cl]:1.11-2.09,P=0.010)and 70-80 years(adjusted HR:1.39,95%cl:1.15-1.70,P-0.001)in the AROU group had worse survival than those in the LUTS group,but such difference was not demonstrated in patients aged>80 *** to the general population,younger patients in the LUTS group appeared to have better survival(worse survival(80 years,survival was similar with the general population in both the LUTS and AROU *** conclusion,AROU at young age was associated with mortality,while early detection and management of LUTS may improve survival.

In this study,we synthesized high-performance carbon Fiber/Gold/copper(cF/Au/cu)composite wires by using a 2-step deposition method via sputtering and *** Au was sputtered on PANbased cFs as a pre-treatment,the wettability and surface reactivity of the cFs were improved,resulting in a homogeneous deposition of cu on their *** different cu electrodeposition time,the resulting cF/Au/cu composite wires could possess a high strength of up to 3.27 GPa(~10 times stronger than copper wires)while their electrical conductivity could be as high as 4.4×10^5 S/cm(~75%of that for copper).More importantly,since the composite wires were lightweight(up to 70%lower than cu mass density),they are a promising candidate to substitute conventional heavy metal wires in the future electrical applications.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)presents a chronic condition that links the overarching influence of the intestinal microbiome to a disease state with the multisystem manifestations of obesity,type 2 diabetes(T2D),chronic kidney disease(cKD)and cardiovascular disease(cVD)(1).NAFLD is an increasingly common disease with a current prevalence of 25%worldwide(2).The proportion of severe presentations of NAFLD is also increasing and these trends will lead to an increased burden from NAFLD sequelae,including cirrhosis,liver failure and hepatocellular cancer(2).

considerable progress has been made in understanding the responses of amphibians to climate change,with successful research carried out on climate change-associated shifts in amphibian phenology,elevational distributions and amphibian-parasite *** review and synthesize the literature on this topic,emphasizing acutely lethal,sublethal,indirect and positive effects of climate change on amphibians,and major research *** instance,evidence is lacking on poleward shifts in amphibian distributions and on changes in body sizes and morphologies of amphibians in response to climate *** have limited information on amphibian thermal tolerances,thermal preferences,dehydration breaths,opportunity costs of water conserving behaviors and actual temperature and moisture ranges amphibians *** when much of this information is available,there remains little evidence that climate change is acutely lethal to *** suggests that if climate change is contributing to declines,it might be through effects that are not acutely lethal,indirect,or both,but evidence in support of this suggestion is *** fact,evidence that climate change is directly contributing to amphibian declines is weak,partly because researchers have not often ruled out alternative hypotheses,such as chytrid fungus or climate-fungus ***,we recommend that amphibian-climate research shift from primarily inductive,correlational approach as to studies that evaluate alternative hypotheses for *** additional rigor will require interdisciplinary collaborations,estimates of costs and benefits of climate change to amphibian fitness and populations,and the integration of correlative field studies,experiments on‘model’amphibian species,and mathematical and functional,physiological models.
