Escherichia coli(***) is one of the facultative anaerobes of the human intestinal tract, usually harmless. Infections due to pathogenic *** may result in urinary tract infections, sepsis, meningitis and enteric disease. Diarrheagenic *** has been classified into several categories, such as entero-toxigenic *** (ETEC), entero-invasive *** (EIEC), entero-pathogenic *** (EPEC), entero-aggregative *** (EaggEC) and entero-hemorrhagic *** (EHEC). A variety of virulence or potential virulence factors for diarrheagenic *** have been identified. The nomenclature of diarrheagenic *** is based on virulence factors[1,2].

Prince George’s County,Maryland,in the Washington *** area has developed a best management practice decision support system(BMPDSS)to support analysis and decision making for stormwater management planning and design at both the site scale and the watershed *** paper presents a detailed description of the BMPDSS.A case study that demonstrates the application of the system is also *** case study involves a Green Highway project located in a highly urbanized area within the Anacostia River watershed of the *** best management practices(BMP)such as bioretention,filter vegetative swale,porous paving,and landscape infiltration are proposed for reducing highway runoff and improving water *** BMPDSS is used to identify and evaluate various alternatives to determine the most costeffective types and combinations of BMPs that minimize the highway runoff pollution.

A transport bed flash calcination(TBFC)process applied to magnesite is systematically investigated through process simulation to optimize the energy-saving *** high-temperature calciner flue gas is used to preheat the fed magnesite,while the sensible heat with the caustic calcined magnesia(CCM)product is cooled by air sent to the ***-decomposition of magnesite during preheating is considered on basis of the kinetics measured using a micro fluidized bed reaction analyzer that allows the minimized effect of external diffusion on *** staged fuel gas supply the TBFC process allows the equivalence ratios around 1.2 for *** preferred arrangement of stages for magnesite preheating and CCM cooling are respectively 4 and 2,leading to the energy consumption of 4100 kJ/kg-CCM and the energy efficiency of 66.8%,which is almost doubly higher than the 33.9%of the conventional reverberatory furnaces(RF).The pre-decomposition occurs mainly in the 1st-stage preheater,and the maximal conversion is about 13%.Varying the stages of preheating appears more influential on the energy saving than varying the cooling stages,while residence time above 1 s in the preheaters has limited effect.

AIM To investigate the role of apolipoprotein E (apoE) polymorphism in the lithogenesis of gallstone and the hereditary pathogenesis of the *** Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)was used to study apoE phenotypes and allelefrequencies in patients with gallstones and control, and the fasting serum lipids of subjectswere also measured by enzymatic *** The levels of triglyceride (TG) andvery low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDLC) were much higher in Ez/, patients than that inE,/, control. E,/, patients were accompanied withremarkably low levels of high density lipoproteincholesterol (HDLC) and its subforms. But in E,/#patients there were only slight changes in levelsof VLDLC and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL--C).CONCLUSION Different apoE phenotype patientswith gallstones have different cheracteristics ofdyslipidemia and the average level of serum lipids in patients with gallstones are higher thansubjects without gallstones in the same apoEgene phenotype. EZ allele is possibly one of thedangerous factors in the lithogenesis of cholecystolithiasis.

Liver fibrosis is the center of diagnosis and management of essentially all chronic liver diseases. While liver biopsy examination still has a role in diagnosis and drug development, it is replaced by non-invasive assessments of liver biopsy in majority of the clinical scenarios. Radiological approaches, namely transient elastography, acoustic radiation force impulse imaging, shear wave elastography, magnetic resonance elastography provide accurate diagnosis of advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis. Serum test formulae based on common laboratory parameters or more specialized parameters including those commercially available panels FibroTest?, FibroMeter? and Enhanced Liver Fibrosis are also available. Combining different modalities may further improve the accuracy. The role of all these non-invasive assessments has been further expanded from diagnostic to prognostic, e.g. risk prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by LSM-HCC score. Treatment of liver fibrosis can be achieved by controlling the underlying diseases, with chronic viral hepatitis as the most established disease model. Currently there are multiple clinical trials evaluating different treatment options to improve fibrosis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Specific anti-fibrotic treatment targets e.g. direct downregulation of hepatic stellate cell, collagen synthesis inhibitors and transforming growth factor-βantagonists have been tested in laboratory and pending further studies in clinical settings.

The people of the Tibetan Plateau have received extensive attention from scholars because of their unique adaptability to the low temperature and anoxic environments. However, the Tibetan communities and their habitats in the low-altitude regions of the plateau have rarely been studied in a scientific manner. Based on the extraction of geographic information of 197 towns in the Hehuang Valley and on variance analysis, this study examines the habitats and subsistence strategies of the Tibetans and other major ethnic groups in the low-latitude region of the Tibetan Plateau. Our statistical results show that the annual average temperature of Tibetan habitats in the Hehuang Valley is relatively high. The relatively warm environment of the valley allows the Tibetans in that area to cultivate wheat and barley and raise cattle and sheep—a subsistence strategy significantly different from that of other Tibetans in the high-altitude regions in the Tibetan Plateau. In addition, the Tibetan communities in the Hehuang Valley include similar agri-pastoral ethnic groups (including Hui and Salar), both of which adopt similar subsistence strategies. The agricultural ethnic groups (Han and Tu) live in a relatively cool and humid environment facilitating agricultural production, while the agri-pastoral ethnic groups (Tibetan, Hui, and Salar) inhabit relatively warm and arid environment in the valley. Due to the lack of agricultural activities, agri-pastoral groups must also engage in animal husbandry to supplement their diet. In the Ando Tibetan region, the subsistence strategies of the ethnic groups are closely related to their physical *** ethnic groups communicate among themselves, integrate, and influence each other, resulting in a diversified culture. This study proves that the habitat variation at a regional scale corresponds significantly to the variation of subsistence strategies. A double-sided silicon strip detector(DSSD)with active area of 48 mm x 48 mm and thickness of300μm has been developed. Each side of DSSD consists of48 strips, each with width of 0.9 mm and inter-strip separation of 0.1 mm. Electrical properties and detection performances including full depletion bias voltage, reverse leakage current, rise time, energy resolution and cross talk have been studied. At a bias of 80 V, leakage current in each strip is less than 15 nA, and rise time for alpha particle at 5157 keV is approximately 15 ns on both *** energy resolutions have been achieved with0.65-0.80% for the junction strips and 0.85-1.00% for the ohmic strips. The cross talk is found to be negligible on both sides. The overall good performance of DSSD indicates its readiness for various nuclear physics experiments.

Reversing effects of traditional Chinese antitumor medicines on colorectal tumor immunosuppression of natural killer cell and T lymphocyte in vitro

Objective： Reversing effects of traditional Chinese medicines on colorectal tumor immunosuppressions of natural killer （NK） cell and T lymphocyte were analyzed to provide evidence on selecting medicines for patients according to the differ- ent types of tumor immunosuppression. Methods： Six traditional Chinese medicines, including Arsenious acid （AS）, Ligustra- zine hydrochloride （LHC）, Astragalus mongholicus bge （AMB）, Matrine N-oxide （MOX）, Polyporus umbellatus polysaccharide （PUPS） and Artesunate （ART）, were enrolled. The reversing effects on suppression of murine splenocyte transformation and NK killing activity were measured by 3-{4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl}-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium （MTT）, and the effects on the suppressed expression of intefieukin 2 receptor a （IL-2R（I）, CD3E＊~,＊ and CD3~.-~＊ were detected by flow cytometry （FCM）. The effects on immunosuppressive molecules were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）, including transforming growth factor ~1 （TGF-~I）, vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF）, interleukin 4 （IL-4）, IL-6, IL-10 and pros- taglandin （PG） E2. Results：（1） The reversing effects of AMB on the inhibition of NK killing and CD3 expression were the most significant; the effect of LHC on inhibition of CD3 expression was the strongest; the effects of AMB, PUPS and ART on inhibition of transformation were the greatest; and the effect of ART on inhibition of IL-2Ra expression was the strongest. （2） The correlated molecules of these medicines that exerted reversing effects on colorectal tumor immunosuppression were TGF-~I and IL-10. AMB had the highest down-regulating effect on the secretion of TGF-~I. AS and ART had the highest effects on IL-10. Conclusion： Reversing tumor immunosuppression through the down-regulation of immunosuppressive molecules is one of the novel antitumor mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicines. Fungal endophytes have been isolated from almost every plant, infecting their hosts without causing visible disease symptoms, and yet have still proved to be involved in plant secondary metabolites accumulation. To decipher the possible physiological mechanisms of the endophytic fungus-host interaction, the role of protein phosphorylation and the relationship between endophytic fungus-induced kinase activity and nitric oxide （NO） and brassinolide （BL） in endophyte-enhanced volatile oil accumulation in Atractylodes lancea plantlets were investigated using pharmacological and biochemical approaches. Inoculation with the endophytic fungus Gilmaniella sp. ALl2 enhanced the activities of total protein phosphorylation, Ca2^-dependent protein kinase, and volatile oil accumulation in A. lancea plantlets. The upregulation of protein kinase activity could be blocked by the BL inhibitor brassinazole. Furthermore, pretreatments with the NO-specific scavenger cPTIO significantly reduced the increased activities of protein kinases in A. lancea plantlets inoculated with endophytic fungus. Pretreatments with different protein kinase inhibitors also reduced fungus-induced NO production and volatile oil accumulation, but had barely no effect on the BL level. These data suggest that protein phosphorylation is required for endophyte- induced volatile oil production in A. lancea plantlets, and that crosstalk between protein phosphorylation and the NO pathway may occur and act as a downstream signaling event of the BL pathway.
