Stable isotope paleohydrology and chemostratigraphy of the Albian Wayan Formation from the wedge-top depozone,North American Western Interior Basin

Understanding of the role of atmospheric moisture and heat transport in the climate system of the Cretaceous greenhouse world represents a major challenge in Earth system science. Stable isotopic paleohydrologic data from mid-Cretaceous paleosols in North America, from paleoequatorial to paleoArctic latitudes, have been used to constrain the oxygen isotope mass balance of the Albian hydrologic cycle. Over the range from 40°-50°N paleolatitude, sideritic paleosols predominate, indicating paleoenvironments with positive precipitation-evaporation （P-E） balances. Local exceptions occur on leeward side of the Sevier Orogen, where calcic paleosols in the wedge-top depozone record paleoenvironments with negative P-E balances in the orographic rain shadow. Stratigraphic sections in the Wayan Formation of Idaho （WF） were sampled from the wedge-top depozone. The units consist of stacked m-scale mudstone paleosols separated by m-scale sandstone-siltstone beds. Sections were sampled for organic carbon isotope profiles, and B-horizons from 6 well-developed paleosols were sampled for detrital zircons to determine maximum depositional ages. The first of these from the WF has produced a U-Pb concordia age of 101.0±1.1 ma. This same WF section has produced a stratigraphic trend of upwardly decreasing δ18C values ranging from -24‰ upwards to -27‰ VPDB, suggesting correlation to the late Albian C15 C-isotope segment. Pedogenic carbonates from the WF principally consist of micritic calcite, with carbon-oxygen isotope values that array along meteoric calcite lines （mCLs） with δ18O values that range from -9.47‰ up to -8.39‰ VPDB. At approximately 42°N paleolatitude, these mCL values produce calculated paleoprecipitation values of-8.12‰ to -7.04‰ VSmOW, a range that is consistent with the estimates produced from other proxies at the same paleolatitudes across North America. Aerosolized immunotherapeutic nanoparticle inhalation potentiates PD-L1 blockade for locally advanced lung cancer

Despite therapeutic advancements,the prognosis of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer(LANSCLC),which has invaded multiple lobes or the other lung and intrapulmonary lymph nodes,remains *** emergence of immunotherapy with immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)is transforming cancer ***,only a fraction of lung cancer patients benefit from *** clinical evidence suggests that the proinflammatory tumor microenvironment(TmE)and programmed death-ligand 1(PD-L1)expression correlate positively with response to the PD-1/PD-L1 *** report here a liposomal nanoparticle loaded with cyclic dinucleotide and aerosolized(AeroNP-CDN)for inhalation delivery to deep-seated lung tumors and target CDN to activate stimulators of interferon(IFN)genes in macrophages and dendritic cells(DCs).Using a mouse model that recapitulates the clinical LANSCLC,we show that AeroNP-CDN efficiently mitigates the immunosuppressive TmE by reprogramming tumor-associated macrophage from the m2 to m1 phenotype,activating DCs for effective tumor antigen presentation and increasing tumor-infiltrating CD8+T cells for adaptive anticancer ***,activation of interferons by AeroNP-CDN also led to increased PD-L1 expression in lung tumors,which,however,set a stage for response to anti-PD-L1 ***,anti-PD-L1 antibody-mediated blockade of IFNs-induced immune inhibitory PD-1/PD-L1 signaling further prolonged the survival of the LANSCLC-bearing ***,AeroNP-CDN alone or combination immunotherapy was safe without local or systemic *** conclusion,this study demonstrates a potential nano-immunotherapy strategy for LANSCLC,and mechanistic insights into the evolution of adaptive immune resistance provide a rational combination immunotherapy to overcome it.

Corneal epithelial defects following vitreoretinal surgery:incidence and outcomes from the DISCOVER study

Eastern wild turkey nest site selection in two frequently burned pine savannas

Introduction:Reproductive success is a critical factor affecting avian demographics and can be influenced by many factors including nesting chronology,predation risk,and fine-scale nest site ***:We modeled the relative influences of habitat-related covariates at six spatial scales(nest site:15-,40-,80-,120-,160-,and 200-m radii)on Eastern wild turkey(meleagris gallopavo silvestris)nest site selection in two pine savannas managed by frequent prescribed fire(≤3 years)in southwestern Georgia during ***:Nest site(15-m scale)habitat metrics(mean visual obstruction[cm]and canopy closure[%])had the greatest influence on nest site selection relative to covariates measured at larger spatial *** odds ratios suggested that nests were 26.8% more likely to occur for every 10 cm increase in mean vegetation height with a range of 7.5 to 150.0 cm and 18.5% less likely to occur for every 10% increase in canopy closure with a range from 0.0 to 97.8%.Total ground cover,canopy closure,edge density,and percent land cover type(e.g.,mature pine,mixed pine/hardwood,shrub/scrub)had minimal influence on nest site ***:management of pine savannas for turkey nest sites should focus on creating early-successional vegetation to conceal nests from potential ***,we suggest that future studies consider evaluating the influence of spatial scale on turkey nest site selection.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the immune modulatory response of Puhuang(Pollen Typhae),ethanolic extract of dried pollens(TP-E)and charcoal activated pollens(CTP-E)were used for their phytochemical evaluation and their modulatory response against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)induced inflammatory activity on RAW264.7 macrophage ***:Biochemical assays were carried out to quantify the 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl Radical Scavenging Activity,Reducing Power,Ferrous ion chelating ability and total polyphenol content and ***-toxic dose of the extract(TP-E and CTP-E)was chosen based on 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** of TP-E and CTP-E on lipopolysaccharides-induced inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)expression was measured by Western blot and quantitative PCR(q RT-PCR).Expression of inflammatory cytokines,such as interleukins(IL-1βand IL-6)and tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α),was quantified using q ***-activated protein kinase pathway was analyzed using Western ***:Phytochemical analysis revealed that both TP-E and CTP-E have strong antioxidant activities and high flavonoid and phenolic ***-E and CTP-E effectively inhibit the expression of i NOS and COX-2,thereby inhibiting its downstream proinflammatory regulators,the extracellular signal-related kinase-1/2,that decreases the expression of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α.CONCLUSION:Phytochemical constituents present in Typha angustifolia Linn could be used for treating inflammation-related diseases.

Evaluation of alternative surface runoff accounting procedures using SWAT model

For surface runoff estimation in the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)model,the curve number(CN)procedure is commonly adopted to calculate surface runoff by dynamically updating CN values based on antecedent soil moisture condition(SCSI)in *** SWAT2005 and onward,an alternative approach has become available to apply the CN method by relating the runoff potential to daily evapotranspiration(SCSII).While improved runoff prediction with SCSII has been reported in several case studies,few investigations have been made on its influence to water quality output or on the model uncertainty associated with the SCSII *** objectives of the research were:(1)to quantify the improvements in hydrologic and water quality predictions obtained through different surface runoff estimation techniques;and(2)to examine how model uncertainty is affected by combining different surface runoff estimation techniques within SWAT using Bayesian model averaging(BmA).Applications of BmA provide an alternative approach to investigate the nature of structural uncertainty associated with both CN *** showed that SCSII and BmA associated approaches exhibit improved performance in both discharge and total NO3 predictions compared to *** addition,the application of BmA has a positive effect on finding well performed solutions in the multi-dimensional parameter space,but the predictive uncertainty is not evidently reduced or ***,we recommend additional future SWAT calibration/validation research with an emphasis on the impact of SCSII on the prediction of other pollutants.

Trend analysis and change point detection in a time series are frequent analysis *** point detection is the identification of abrupt variation in the process behaviour due to natural or artificial changes,whereas trend can be defined as estimation of gradual departure from past *** analyze the time series data in the presence of trend,using Cox-Stuart methods together with the change point *** applied the methods to the nearsurface wind speed time series for Australia as an *** trends in near-surface wind speeds for Australia have been investigated based upon our newly developed wind speed datasets,which were constructed by blending observational data collected at various heights using local surface roughness *** trend in wind speed at 10 m is generally increasing while at 2 m it tends to be *** testing,change point analysis and manual inspection of records indicate several factors may be contributing to the discrepancy,such as systematic biases accompanying instrument changes,random data errors(*** day error)and data sampling *** technique and multiple-period trend analysis based upon change point detections have thus been employed to clarify the source of the inconsistencies in wind speed trends.

Natural Colonization of Rice by Arbuscular mycorrhizal Fungi in Different Production Areas

Interactions between plants and soil microorganisms can influence the other interactions in which plants participate, including interactions with herbivores. many fungi, including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AmF), form symbiotic relationships with the roots they inhabit, and potentially alter defense against pests. The objective of this study was to document the extent of root colonization by AmF on non-flooded rice plants grown under conditions typical of commercial fields. We hypothesized that AmF naturally colonized rice plants in different rice producing field locations. Rice plant samples were collected from areas across the southern United States, including Texas, mississippi, Arkansas and two research stations in Louisiana. We quantified the amount of AmF colonization in insecticide-free rice plants over three consecutive years(2014–2016). The results revealed natural colonization of AmF in all rice producing areas. In all the three years of survey, rice-AmF associations were the greatest in Arkansas followed by mississippi and Texas. This research will help draw attention to natural colonization of AmF in rice producing areas that can impact future rice research and production by facilitating agricultural exploitation of the symbiosis.
