Iohexol plasma and urinary concentrations in cirrhotic patients:A pilot study

BACKGROUND Renal failure is an independent prognostic factor for survival in patients with *** to calculate serum creatinine significantly overestimate the glomerular filtration rate(GFR).Plasma clearance of direct biomarkers has been used to improve the accuracy of evaluations of GFR in this population,but no study has simultaneously measured plasma and urinary clearance,which is the gold *** To study calculated plasma and urinary concentrations of iohexol,based on the kinetics of samples collected over 24 h from cirrhotic patients with three different grades of *** One dose of iohexol(5 mL)was injected intravenously and plasma concentrations were measured 11 times over 24 h in nine cirrhotic *** urinary concentration of iohexol was also measured,in urine collected at 4,8,12 and 24 *** The plasma and urinary curves of iohexol were similar;however,incomplete urinary excretion was detected at 24 *** the estimated GFR limits of our population(>30 and<120 mL/min/1.73 m^(2)),the median measured GFR(m GFR)was 63.7 mL/min/1.73 m^(2)(range:41.3–111.3 mL/min/1.73 m^(2)),which was an accurate reflection of the actual ***-based formulas for estimatingGFR showed significant bias and imprecision,while the Brochner–Mortensen(BM)equation accurately estimated the m GFR(r=0.93).CONCLUSION Plasma clearance of iohexol seems useful for determining GFR regardless of the ascites *** will secondly devise a pharmacokinetics model requiring fewer samples andvalidate the BM equation.

Silicon(Si)photonics has recently emerged as a key enabling technology in many application fields thanks to the mature Si process technology,the large silicon wafer size,and promising Si optical *** monolithic integration by direct epitaxy of III-V lasers and Si photonic devices on the same Si substrate has been considered for decades as the main obstacle to the realization of dense photonics *** considerable progress in the last decade,only discrete III-V lasers grown on bare Si wafers have been reported,whatever the wavelength and laser *** we demonstrate the first semiconductor laser grown on a patterned Si photonics platform with light coupled into a waveguide.A mid-IR GaSb-based diode laser was directly grown on a pre-patterned Si photonics wafer equipped with SiN waveguides clad by SiO_(2).Growth and device fabrication challenges,arising from the template architecture,were overcome to demonstrate more than 10 mw outpower of emitted light in continuous wave operation at room *** addition,around 10%of the light was coupled into the SiN waveguides,in good agreement with theoretical calculations for this butt-coupling *** work lft an important building block and it paves the way for future low-cost,large-scale,fully integrated photonic chips.

Inflammatory bowel diseases （IBDs） are complex and chronic disabling conditions resulting from a dysregulated dialogue between intestinal microbiota and components of both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Cytokines are essential mediators between activated immune and non-immune cells, including epithelial and mes- enchymal cells. They are immunomodulatory peptides released by numerous cells and these have significant effects on immune function leading to the differentiation and survival of T cells. The physiology of IBD is becom- ing a very attractive field of research for development of new therapeutic agents. These include cytokines involved in intestinal immune inflammation. This review will focus on mechanisms of action of oytokines involved in IBD and new therapeutic opportunities for these diseases.

There is currently much activity toward the integration of mid-infrared semiconductor lasers on Si substrates for developing a variety of smart,compact,sensors based on Si-photonics integrated *** review this rapidly-evolving research field,focusing on the epitaxial integration of antimonide lasers,the only technology covering the whole mid-to-far-infrared spectral *** explain how a dedicated molecular-beam epitaxy strategy allows for achieving high-performance GaSb-based diode lasers,InAs/AlSb quantum cascade lasers,and InAs/GaInSb interband cascade lasers by direct growth on on-axis(001)Si substrates,whereas GaAs-on-Si or GaSb-on-Si layers grown by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy in large capability epitaxy tools are suitable templates for antimonide laser *** also show that etching the facets of antimonide lasers grown on Si is a viable approach in view of photonic integrated ***,this review shows that while diode lasers are sensitive to residual crystal defects,the quantum cascade and interband cascade lasers grown on Si exhibit performances comparable to those of similar devices grown on their native substrates,due to their particular band structures and radiative recombination *** device lifetimes have been extrapolated for interband cascade ***,routes to be further explored are also presented.

Objective:To assess the prevalence of parasitic infections among patients attending Saint Camille Medical Centre and to estimate co-parasitic infections ***:From January to December 2009,stool samples were collected from 11 728 persons,aged from five months to 72 years and suffering from *** macroscopic description,the stools were examined by light microscopy to search for the presence of ***:From the 11 728 analyzed stools,6 154(52.47%) were infected with at least one *** frequently encountered were:Giardia intestinalis(43.47%),Entamoeba histolytica/Entamoeba dispar(30.74%) and Trichomonas irUestinalis(21.72%),while Hymenolepis nana(2.25%) was the most common ***-infections occurred in 22.34%*** the multi-infected samples,dual and triple infections accounted for 71.18%and 20.00%,*** irUestinalis for protozoan and Hymenolepis nana for helminths were the most implicated ***: This study confirms that intestinal parasites are still a public health problem in Burkina *** reduce the incidence of parasitic infections,it is necessary to promote the education of people so that they practice the rules of individual and collective hygiene.

Neck-MRI experience for investigation of survived strangulation victims

For the medicolegal evaluation of victims of survived strangulation,a neck-magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)can be performed for assessing lesions in the inner soft tissues(fat,muscles or lymph nodes,for example).In our institute,such MRI examinations have been performed for a test period of 4 years with the aim of evaluating the use of this tool by forensic pathologists and identifying medicolegal indicators for the performance of neck-MRI in surviving victims of *** retrospectively reviewed medicolegal reports from all victims examined during the test *** extracted objective lesions(***,bruising and abrasions)and reported clinical symptoms(*** disorder,dysphasia)from the *** findings were compared to those reported from the *** total,112 victims were clinically examined after suspected *** of these victims underwent an MRI examination of the ***-four of the victims presented objective lesions during the clinical examination,with eight showing signs of both petechiae and ***-MRI was performed in four of these eight victims and three of them showed lesions visible in *** 76 victims with bruising as the only objective finding,66 victims described clinical *** those 66 victims,seven were examined by MRI and two demonstrated lesions in *** MRI was performed,relevant findings were detected in 45%of the *** leads to the suspicion that many more findings could have been detected in the other victims,if an MRI had been performed in those *** results lead us to the conclusion that an MRI examination of victims of suspected strangulation is useful,and strict indications for its application should be established.

We constrain the host-star flux of the microlensing planet OGLE-2014-BLG-0676 Lb using adaptive optics(AO)images taken by the Magellan and Keck *** measure the flux of the light blended with the microlensed source to be K=16.79±0.04 mag and J=17.76±0.03 *** that the blend is the lens star,we find that the host is a 0.73_(-0.29)^(+0.14)M_(⊙)star at a distance of2.67_(-1.41)^(+0.77)kpc,where the relatively large uncertainty in angular Einstein radius measurement is the major source of *** mass of M_(p)=3.68_(-1.44)^(+0.69)M_J,the planet is likely a"super Jupiter"at a projected separation of r_(⊥)=4.53_(-2.50)^(+1.49)AU,and a degenerate model yields a similar M_p=3.73_(-1.47)^(+0.73)M_(J)at a closer separation of r_(⊥)=2.56_(-1.41)^(+0.84)*** estimates are consistent with the previous Bayesian analysis based on a Galactic ***-2014-BLG-0676 Lb belongs to a sample of planets discovered in a"secondgeneration"planetary microlensing survey and we attempt to systematically constrain host properties of this sample with high-resolution imaging to study the distribution of planets.

Collective Finance Models for Sustainable Water Projects

Waterbasin management is an exemplar problem of collective action, since many actors influence and are influenced by changes in a waterbasin. The present paper uses the example of finance of control of surface water run-off as an instance of (potential) collective action involving finance. Five innovative financing schemes for new waterbasin management infrastructures are assessed with respect to the actors who provide the finance and how the projects are governed: 1) financing through taxes;2) third-party financing;3) financing by stakeholders;4) financing through fullcost pricing;and 5) financing by developers and/or landowners.

Assessing Genetic Variation and Relationships among a Mini Core Germplasm of Sesame (<i>Sesamum indicum</i>L.) Using Biochemical and RAPD Markers

Knowledge of genetic diversity is essential for any future varietal improvement program. Thus, the objective of this study is to contribute to a better knowledge of the genetic diversity within 15 sesame accessions, using biochemical markers and RAPD. The accessions are of various sources and seeds of different colors;color being an important feature in the sesame market. SDS-PAGE on protein extracts of sesame seeds revealed 31 protein markers, only 4 of which were polymorphic, indicating that this technique is not suitable for studying genetic diversity in S. indicum. The analyses on isoenzymatic extracts of esterase from sesame seedlings made it possible, to distinguish and classify the accessions into 2 major groups. RAPD analysis of genomic DNA using 10-mer primers revealed a high inter-accession genetic diversity. A total of 53 DNA markers, including 48 polymorphic, were produced. The coefficient of similarity between accessions ranged from 0.343 to 0.897. RAPD markers were found to be more suitable for studying genetic diversity within sesame germplasm than isozyme analyzes. Nevertheless, geographical distributions and seed colors are not related to the classes formed.
