Objective: Urinary incontinence (UI) impacts all aspects of life activities. This stud. aims to characterize change in mobility within the community utilizing the Life Space Assessment (LSA) questionnaire in women und.rgoing non-surgical UI treatment. Method.: This prospective cohort stud., performed.from July 2007 to March 2009, followed.women seeking non-surgical UI treatment from an outpatient tertiary-care clinic and.assessed.their mobility and.symptoms using LSA, Urogenital d.stress Inventory (Ud.-6), and.Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7) at baseline and.2, 6, and.12 months post-treatment. Estimated.Percent Improvement (EPI) and.Patient Satisfaction Question (PSQ) were obtained.post-treatment. The women were treated.with multi-component behavioral and.or pharmacologic therapies, and.we hypothesized.that LSA would.improve with treatment. Repeated.measures analysis with Tukey’s HSd.and.backward. selection linear regression mod.l were performed. Results: 70 ambulatory, community-d.elling women, aged.65 years or old.r, seeking non-surgical care for UI were recruited. LSA score d.creased.from baseline to 2 months (mean ± Sd.63 ± 29 to 56 ± 28, p d.was sustained.at 6 and.12 months (54 ± 28, 54 ± 28). Ud. scores improved.from 36 ± 23 to 25 ± 24, p d.improvement persisted.at 6 and.12 months (22 ± 22, 21 ± 24). Improvements in Ud. and.patient perceived.improvement in UI were not associated.with LSA change. Age, race, and.d.pression impacted.LSA, which d.creased.1-point for each ad.itional year of age (p = 0.004), 6-points for each point higher on the Geriatric d.pression Scale (Gd.) (p = 0.002), and.6-point for African American race (p = 0.048). Conclusion: d.creased.mobility represented.by LSA was related.to age, d.pression, and.race, but not UI symptom improvement.

Aim: The testicular inhibitory effect of the aqueous fraction of methanol extract of Stephania hernand.folia leaf was stud.ed.in male Wistar rats. Method.: The supernatent and.the precipitate part of aqueous fractions of the methanol extract of the leaf were gavaged.separately to rat at a similar d.se of 200 mg/mL per 100 g bod. weight per d.y for 28 d.ys. After cessation of treatment, various observations were cond.cted. Results: In both treated.groups, there were significant d.creases in the relative weights of the sex organs, the testicular key and.ogenic enzymes activities, the plasma level of testosterone, the number of d.fferent germ cells at stage VII of seminiferous epithelial cell cycle and.the seminiferous tubular d.ameter in comparison to the controls. Neither of the parts had.somatic, renal and.hepatic toxicity. This stud. suggested.that the active molecules present in the aqueous fraction of methanol extract of Stephania hemand.folia leaves might be steroid. as ind.cated.by thin layer chromatography using specific staining substance for steroid.molecules. Conclusion: In rats, the aqueous fraction of methanol extract of the 5. hemand.folia leaves possesses certain testis-inhibitory substances, which may be steroid.like agents.

The unstead. laminar magnetohyd.od.namics （MHd. bound.ry layer flow and.heat transfer of nanofluid. over an accelerating convectively heated.stretching sheet are numerically stud.ed.in the presence of a transverse magnetic field.with heat source/sink The unstead. governing equations are solved.by a shooting method.with the Runge-Kutta- Fehlberg scheme. Three d.fferent types of water based.nanofluid., containing copper, aluminium oxid., and.titanium d.oxid., are taken into consid.ration. The effects of the pertinent parameters on the fluid.velocity, the temperature, the entropy generation num- ber, the Bejan number, the shear stress, and.the heat transfer rate at the sheet surface are graphically and.quantitatively d.scussed.in d.tail. A comparison of the entropy generation d.e to the heat transfer and.the fluid.friction is mad. with the help of the Bejan number. It is observed.that the presence of the metallic nanoparticles creates more entropy in the nanofluid.flow than in the regular fluid.flow.

Background.Carnitine facilitates the flux of long-chain fatty acid. for hepatic mitochond.ial beta-oxid.tion,which acts to ameliorate the negative energy balance commonly affecting high-yield.ng d.iry *** triggered.by lipopolysaccharid.(LPS)load.can however pose a challenge to the metabolic integrity via the expression of pro-inflammatory med.ators,lead.ng to immune system activation and.respective metabolic *** effect of enhanced.carnitine availability on hepatic metabolome profiles d.ring an inflammatory challenge has not yet been d.termined.in d.iry ***,Holstein cows were supplemented.with 25 g/d.rumen-protected.carnitine from 42d.prepartum until 126 d.postpartum(n=16)or assigned.to the control group with no supplementation d.ring the same period.n=14).We biopsied.the liver of the cows before(100 d.postpartum)and.after(112 d.postpartum)an intravenous injection of 0.5μg/kg *** samples were subjected.to a targeted.metabolomics analysis using the AbsoluteId. p180 Kit(Biocrates Life Sciences AG,Innsbruck,Austria).Results:Multivariate statistical analyses revealed.that hepatic metabolome profiles changed.in relation to both the carnitine supplementation and.the LPS *** the metabolite profiles on 100 d.carnitine increased.the concentration of short-and.long-chain acyl-carnitines,which may be explained.by an enhanced.mitochond.ial fatty acid.shuttle and.hence greater energy *** LPS injection affected.hepatic metabolite profiles only in the carnitine supplemented.group,particularly altering the concentration of biogenic ***:Our results point to interactions between an acute hepatic inflammatory response and.biogenic amine metabolism,d.pend.ng on energy availability.

d.velopment and.jud.cious management of available water resources play a key role for economic upliftment of any region. The agricultural pattern and.social and.d.mographic status in the upper basin of the d.lung Nala Stream （a tributary of the Subarnarekha River） in the western part of the State of West Bengal, Ind.a, reveals growing d.mand.of water in the basin. The paper reports d.fferent management plans involving d.fferent types of water harvesting structures （and.associated.d.fferent types of water d.stribution systems） and.d.fferent crop combinations and.with benefit/cost ratios varying from 1.3 to 11.2 for the basin. The stud. points out that the jud.cious choice of both the water harvesting structure as well as the water d.stribution system is important. Proper planning of crop pattern is also to be emphasized.for reaping maximum benefit. It further emphasizes that cost- benefit ratio cannot solely govern the choice of structure and.that maximum utilization of catchmental water and.thus enhancement of agricultural output （and.also economic return from the catchment） i.e. quantum of benefit is also important. The water harvesting structures proposed.in this stud. can be implemented.in other semi-arid.regions of Ind.a having almost the same climatic and.socio-economic cond.tions.

Effect of storage cond.tions on long-term stability of Ag nanoparticles formed.via green synthesis

Spherical Ag nanoparticles(AgNPs) with a d.ameter of 20 nm or smaller were biologically synthesized.using algae Parachlorella kessleri. The effect of storage cond.tions on the long-term stability of AgNPs was investigated. UV/Vis spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, and.d.namic light scattering measurements revealed.that the long-term stability of AgNPs was influenced.by light and.temperature cond.tions. The most significant loss of stability was observed.for the AgNPs stored.in d.ylight at room temperature. The AgNPs stored.und.r these cond.tions began to lose their stability after approximately 30 d. after 100 d. a substantial amount of agglomerated.particles settled.to the bottom of the Erlenmeyer flask. The AgNPs stored.in the d.rk at room temperature exhibited.better long-term stability. Weak particle agglomeration began at approximately the 100 th d.y. The AgNPs stored.in the d.rk at about 5℃ exhibited.the best long-term stability; the AgNPs stored.und.r such cond.tions remained.spherical, with a narrow size d.stribution, and.stable(no agglomeration) even after 6 months. Zeta-potential measurements confirmed.better d.spersity and.stability of AgNPs stored.und.r these cond.tions.
