As we enter the age of electrochemical propulsion,there is an increasing tendency to discuss the viability or otherwise of different electrochemical propulsion systems in zero-sum *** discussions are often grounded in a specific use case;however,given the need to electrify the wider transport sector it is evident that we must consider systems in a holistic *** designed adequately,the hybridisation of power sources within automotive applications has been demonstrated to positively impact fuel cell efficiency,durability,and cost,while having potential benefits for the safety of *** this paper,the impact of the fuel cell to battery hybridisation degree is explored through the key design parameter of system *** fuel cell electric hybrid vehicle(FCHEV)scenarios of various hydridisation degrees,including light-duty vehicles(LDVs),Class 8 heavy goods vehicles(HGVs),and buses are modelled to enable the appropriate sizing of the proton exchange membrane(PEMFC)stack and lithium-ion battery(Lib)pack and additional balance of *** operating conditions of the modelled PEMFC stack and battery pack are then varied under a range of relevant drive cycles to identify the relative performance of the *** extending the model further and incorporating a feedback loop,we are able to remove the need to include estimated vehicle masses a priori enabling improving the speed and accuracy of the model as an analysis tool for vehicle mass and performance estimation.

The potential of acoustic signatures to be used for State-of-Charge(SoC)estimation is demonstrated using artificial neural network regression *** approach represents a streamlined method of processing the entire acoustic waveform instead of performing manual,and often arbitrary,waveform peak *** applications where computational economy is prioritised,simple metrics of statistical significance are used to formally identify the most informative waveform *** alone can be exploited for SoC *** is further shown that signal portions representing both early and late interfacial reflections can correlate highly with the SoC and be of predictive value,challenging the more common peak selection methods which focus on the *** later echoes represent greater through-thickness coverage,and are intuitively more information-rich,their presence is not *** waveform treatment offers a more robust approach to correlating acoustic signatures to electrochemical *** is further demonstrated that transformation into the frequency domain can reduce the dimensionality of the problem significantly,while also improving the estimation *** importantly,it is shown that acoustic signatures can be used as sole model inputs to produce highly accurate SoC estimates,without any complementary voltage *** makes the method suitable for applications where redundancy and diversification of SoC estimation approaches is *** is obtained experimentally from a 210 mAh LiCoO2/graphite pouch *** estimation errors as low as 0.75%are achieved on a SoC scale of 0-100%.

Hammer-Impact SH-Wave Seismic Reflection Methods in Neotectonic Investigations: General Observations and Case Histories from the Mississippi Embayment, U.S.A.

Shallow shear-wave seismic reflection imaging, using a sledgehammer and mass energy source and standard processing, has become increasingly common in mapping near-surface geologic features, especially in water-saturated, unconsolidated sediments. Tests of the method in the Mississippi Embayment region of the central United States show interpretable reflection arrivals in the depth range of 〈10 m to 〉100 m with the potential for increased resolution when compared with compressional-wave data. Shear-wave reflection prof＇des were used to help interpret the significance of neotectonic surface deformation at five sites in the Mississippi Embayment. The interpreted profiles show a range of shallow structural styles that include reverse faulting, fault propagation folding, and reactivated normal faulting, and provide crucial subsurface evidence in support of paleoseismologic trenching and shallow drilling.

Immunotherapy and therapeutic vaccines in prostate cancer： an update on current strategies and clinical implications

In recent years, immunotherapy has emerged as a viable and attractive strategy for the treatment of prostate cancer. While there are multiple ways to target the immune system, therapeutic cancer vaccines and immune checkpoint inhibitors have been most successful in late-stage clinical trials. The landmark Food and Drug Administration approval of sipuleuceI-T for asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic prostate cancer set the stage for ongoing phase III trials with the cancer vaccine PSA-TRICOM and the immune checkpoint inhibitor ipilimumab. A common feature of these immune-based therapies is the appearance of improved overall survival without short-term changes in disease progression. This class effect appears to be due to modulation of tumor growth rate kinetics, in which the activated immune system exerts constant immunologic pressure that slows net tumor growth. Emerging data suggest that the ideal population for clinical trials of cancer vaccines is patients with lower tumor volume and less aggressive disease. Combination strategies that combine immunotherapy with standard therapies have been shown to augment both immune response and clinical benefit.

Acute liver failure secondary to acute antibody mediated rejection after compatible liver transplant: A case report

bACKGROUND The liver has traditionally been regarded as resistant to antibody-mediated rejection(AMR).AMR in liver transplants is a field in its infancy compared to kidney and lung *** our case we present a patient with alpha-1-antitrypsin disease who underwent AbO compatible liver transplant complicated by acute liver failure(ALF)with evidence of antibody mediated rejection on allograft biopsy and elevated serum donor-specific antibodies(DSA).This case highlights the need for further investigations and heightened awareness for timely *** SUMMARY A 56 year-old woman with alpha-1-antitrypsin disease underwent AbO compatible liver transplant from a deceased *** recipient MELD at the time of transplant was *** flow cytometric crossmatches were noted to be positive for T and b *** patient had an uneventful recovery *** on postoperative day 5 the patient developed fevers,elevated liver function tests,distributive shock,renal failure,and hepatic *** went into ALF with evidence of antibody mediated rejection with portal inflammation,bile duct injury,endothelitis,and extensive centrizonal necrosis,and C4d staining on allograft biopsy and elevated *** various interventions including plasmapheresis and immunomodulating therapy,she continued to *** was relisted and successfully underwent liver *** This very rare case highlights AMR as the cause of ALF following liver transplant requiring retransplantation.

Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNGCs). However, the use of tNGCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNGC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tNGCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tNGCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tNGCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tNGCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tNGCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tNGCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tNGCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. Closed-form breakdown voltage/specific on-resistance model using charge superposition technique for vertical power double-diffused metal–oxide–semiconductor device with high-κ insulator

An improved vertical power double-diffused metal–oxide–semiconductor（DMOS） device with a p-region（P1） and high-κ insulator vertical double-diffusion metal–oxide–semiconductor（HKP-VDMOS） is proposed to achieve a better performance on breakdown voltage（bV）/specific on-resistance（Ron,sp） than conventional VDMOS with a high-κ insulator（CHK-VDMOS）.The main mechanism is that with the introduction of the P-region,an extra electric field peak is generated in the drift region of HKP-VDMOS to enhance the breakdown *** to the assisted depletion effect of this p-region,the specific on-resistance of the device could be reduced because of the high doping density of the N-type drift ***,based on the superposition of the depleted charges,a closed-form model for electric field/breakdown voltage is generally derived,which is in good agreement with the simulation result within 10% of *** HKP-VDMOS device with a breakdown voltage of 600 V,a reduced specific on-resistance of 11.5 Ωm·cm^2 and a figure of merit（FOM）（bV^2/Ron,sp）of 31.2 MW·cm^-2 shows a substantial improvement compared with the CHK-VDMOS device.

Segmentation and classification of high resolution imagery for mapping individual species in a closed canopy,deciduous forest

In this paper we investigate the use of a shadow-based delineation program for identifying segments in imagery of a closed canopy, deciduous forest, in West Virginia, USA, as a way to reduce the noise associated with per-pixel classification in forested environments. Shadows typically cluster along the boundaries of trees and therefore can be used to provide a network of nodes for the delineation of segments. A minimum cost path algorithm, where cost is defined as the cumulative sum of brightness values traversed along the connecting route, was used to connect shadow clumps. To test this approach, a series of classifications was undertaken using a multispectral digital aerial image of a six hectare test site and a minimum cost path segmentation. Three species were mapped: oaks, red maple and yellow poplar. The accuracy of an aspatial maximum likelihood classification (termed PERPIXEL classification) was 68.5%, compared to 74.0% for classification using the mean vector of the segments identified with the minimum cost path algorithm (MEAN_SEG), and 78% when the most common class present in the segment is assigned to the entire segment (POSTCLASS_SEG). by comparison, multispectral classification of the multispectral data using the field-mapped polygons of individual trees as segments, produced an accuracy of 82.3% when the mean vector of the polygon was used for classification (MEAN_TREE), and 85.7% when the most common class was assigned to the entire polygon (POSTCLASS_TREE). A moving window-based post-classification majority filter (POSTCLASS_MAJ5bY5) produced an intermediate accuracy value, 73.8%. The minimum cost path segmentation algorithm was found to correctly delineate approximately 28% of the trees. The remaining trees were either segmented, aggregated, or a combination of both segmented and aggregated. Using Drone based Hyperspectral Analysis to Characterize the Geochemistry of Soil and Water

Geochemical analysis through field samples and laboratory testing is a well-trodden method for understanding the composition of soil and water. The limitation of this approach is in the spatial extrapolation of these diagnostic point-location samples. Over large areas such as operational and closed mine sites, sampling can be labor intensive and present potential health, safety and environment protection issues associated with the sampling. Hyperspectral image analysis has been shown to identify an object＇s spectral composition and discretize it from its surroundings. SLR Consulting Limited has been developing a methodology to assess the chemistry of soil and surface water using mounted hyperspectical sensors, and to combine these to provide greater accuracy and precision insights across sites with known mine water contamination issues. Through the use of case studies in the Ireland and US, SLR presents the application of drone based hyperspectral analysis. The studies have shown that the use of drone based hyperspectical sensors provide an excellent potential for the surveying of mining land-use and mining legacy sites. The surveys provide benefits in supporting soil and water geochemical investigation at active and historic mining sites both in data acquisition and also area coverage.
