Benefiting from the advantageous features of structural diversity and resource renewability,organic electroactive compounds are considered as attractive ca.h.de materials for aqueous Zn-ion batteries(ZIBs).In this review,we discuss the recent developments of organic electrode materials for aqueous *** the proton(h^(+))storage chemistry in aqueous Zn-organic batteries has triggered an overwhelming literature surge in recent years,this topic remains ***,our review focuses on this significant issue and summarizes the reported electrochemical mechanisms,including pure Zn^(2+)intercalation,pure h^(+)storage,and h^(+)/Zn^(2+)***,the impact of h^(+)storage on the electrochemical performance of aqueous ZIBs is discussed *** the significance of h^(+)storage,we also highlight the relevant characterization methods ***,perspectives and directions on further understanding the charge storage mechanisms of organic materials are *** hope that this review will stimulate more attention on the h^(+)storage chemistry of organic electrode materials to advance our understanding and further its application.

Uniform and graded bed-load sediment transport in a degrading channel with non-equilibrium conditions

Bed-load transport plays a critical role in river morphological change and has an important impact on river *** there is good understanding of the role of the variation of river bed grain size on transport dynamics in equilibrium conditions,much less is understood for non-equilibrium conditions when the channel is either aggrading or *** particular,the relative role of different grain sizes in the promotion and hindering of the transport of coarse and fine fractions in a degrading channel has yet to be *** current study attempts to provide new understanding through a series of flume experiments done using uniform and graded sediment *** experiments revealed coarser grain-size fractions for a poorly-sorted sediment,relative to uniform-sized sediment,reduced the transport of finer grains and finer fractions enhanced the transport of coarse *** hinderingpromotion effect,caused by relative hiding and exposure of finer and coarse fractions,increased with bed slope and decreased with relative *** particular,as relative submergence increased,the graded fractions tended towards behaving more like their unifo rm-sized ***,the bed-load parameter of the graded fractions increased more with a rise in bed slope than observed for the uniformsized *** results revealed,for degrading channel conditions,such as downstream of a dam,bed-load equations developed for uniform bed sediment are inappropriate for use in natural river systems,particularly in mountain ***,changes in river bed composition due to activities that enhance the input of hill-slope sediment,such as fire,logging,and agricultural development,are likely to cause significant changes in river morphology.

Objective:Globally 37.9 million people are living with hIV/AIDS,and with mortality rates declining,there is an increasing focus on comorbidities including musculoskeletal(MSK)***,the aim of this scoping review was to generate and summarize an overview of the existing scientific literature dealing with MSK complaints in people living with hIV/AIDS(PLWhAs).Methods:This scoping review followed the five-stage methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley.

Restoring nervous system structure and function using tissue engineered living scaffolds

Neural tissue engineering is premised on the integration of engineered living tissue with the host nervous system to directly restore lost function or to augment regenerative capacity following ner- vous system injury or neurodegenerative disease. Disconnection of axon pa.h.ays - the long-distance fibers connecting specialized regions of the central nervous system or relaying peripheral signals - is a common feature of many neurological disorders and injury. however, functional axonal regenera- tion rarely occurs due to extreme distances to targets, absence of directed guidance, and the presence of inhibitory factors in the central nervous system, resulting in devastating effects on cognitive and sensorimotor function. To address this need, we are pursuing multiple strategies using tissue engi- neered ＂living scaffolds＂, which are preformed three-dimensional constructs consisting of living neural cells in a defined, often anisotropic architecture. Living scaffolds are designed to restore function by serving as a living labeled pa.h.ay for targeted axonal regeneration - mimicking key developmental mechanisms- or by restoring lost neural circuitry via direct replacement of neurons and axonal tracts. We are currently utilizing preformed living scaffolds consisting of neuronal dusters spanned by long axonal tracts as regenerative bridges to facilitate long-distance axonal regeneration and for targeted neurosurgical reconstruction of local circuits in the brain. Although there are formidable challenges in predinical and clinical advancement, these living tissue engineered constructs represent a promising strategy to facilitate nervous system repair and functional recovery.

Distraction ligamentotaxis for complex proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations:a clinical study and themodified pins rubber band traction system revisited

Background:The purpose of this study is to present our experience with the modified pins and rubber band traction system, discuss problems encountered, and make recommendations to optimize outcomes. Methods:Data was collected prospectively from November 2013 to March 2017 at a tertiary referral hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Patients with closed complex proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations that were considered unsuitable for other surgical options were included in the study. Patients underwent dynamic skeletal distraction using the modified (Deshmukh) pins rubber band traction system. Outcomes were measured using the Nominal Rating Scale for pain;Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and hand (Da.h. score;active and passive range of motion;patient rating scale;and complications. Results:Twenty patients underwent the procedure, and 19 were included in analyses. At the final follow-up assessment, an average of 62° and 77° was a.h.eved for proximal interphalangeal joint active and passive range of motion, respectively. Pain levels were low (median score of 0 at rest and 1 ranging, out of 10). Four patients suffered minor pin site infections. Conclusion:Distraction ligamentotaxis is a useful part of the armamentarium, especially in the absence of more suitable procedures. It is important to select appropriate patients, educate, and ensure a.h.rence to postoperative therapy. Employing the Deshmukh frame modification streamlines the theatre processes, and removal of wires at approximately 4 weeks minimizes risk of pin site infection.
