Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a disease produced by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and it is currently causing a catastrophic pandemic affecting humans *** disease has been lethal for approximately 3.12 million people around the world since January ***,among the most affected countries,Mexico ranks third in deaths after the United States of America and *** the high number of deceased people might also be explained by social aspects and lifestyle customs in Mexico,there is a relationship between this high proportion of deaths and comorbidities such as high blood pressure(HBP),type 2 diabetes,obesity,and metabolic *** official epidemiological figures reported by the Mexican government have indicated that 18.4%of the population suffers from HBP,close to 10.3%of adults suffer from type 2 diabetes,and approximately 36.1%of the population suffers from *** in the gut microbiota(GM)have been associated with these diseases and with COVID-19 severity,presumably due to inflammatory *** data about the association between GM dysbiosis and metabolic diseases could suggest that the high levels of susceptibility to SARSCoV-2 infection and COVID-19 morbidity in the Mexican population are primarily due to the prevalence of type 2 diabetes,obesity,and metabolic syndrome.

There has been an increase of community studies that incorporate the use of functional diversity indices. The incorporation of these indices in the analysis of marine communities is recent, however, could contribute with relevant information about the health of those communities. The lagoon of La Paz is a body of water located in La Paz, B.C.S., México. Despite its regional importance, there are not recent studies about its fish communities. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to analyze the temporal and spatial structure of the functional diversity of fish communities associated to soft bottoms, from August 2016 to July 2017, as well as important environmental variables. Functional diversity indices showed significant differences between months. Spatial analysis did not show significant differences perhaps due to low variability of the type of substrate. Temperature showed temporal differences as well. Therefore, temperature may be a limiting environmental variable for many fish species inhabiting coastal lagoons.

Functional physiotherapy method results for the treatment of idiopathic clubfoot

BACKGROUND Idiopathic clubfoot is a congenital deformity of multifactorial *** initial treatment is eminently conservative;one of the methods applied is the Functional physiotherapy method(FPM),which includes different approaches:Robert Debré(RD)and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul(SVP)among *** method is based on manipulations of the foot,bandages,splints and exercises adapted to the motor development of the child aimed to achieve a plantigrade and functional *** hypothesis was that the SVP method could be more efficient than the RD method in correcting deformities,and would decrease the rate of *** To compare the RD and SVP methods,specifically regarding the improvement accomplished and the frequency of surgery needed to achieve a plantigrade *** Retrospective study of 71 idiopathic clubfeet of 46 children born between February 2004 and January 2012,who were evaluated and classified in our hospital according to severity by the Dimeglio-Bensahel *** included moderate,severe and very severe ***-four feet were treated with the RD method and 37 feet with the SVP *** outcomes at a minimum of two years were considered as very good(by physiotherapy),good(by percutaneous heel-cord tenotomy),fair(by limited surgery),and poor(by complete surgery).RESULTS Complete release was not required in any case;limited posterior release was done in 23 cases(74%)with the RD method and 9(25%)with the SVP method(P<0.001).The percutaneous heel-cord tenotomy was done in 2 feet treated with the RD method(7%)and 6 feet(17%)treated with the SVP method(P<0.001).Six feet in the RD group(19%)and twenty-one feet(58%)in the SVP group did not require any surgery(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Our study provides evidence of the superiority of the SVP method over the RD method,as a variation of the FPM,for the treatment of idiopathic clubfoot.

Donor risk factors in pancreas transplantation

The aim of the work was to analyze and expose the donor and recipient riskfactors in pancreas transplantation. In the following paper, we exposed the 2018Spanish Consensus Document on Donor and Recipient Selection Criteria forPancreas Transplantation. An assessment of the previous Selection Criteria forDonors and Recipients of Pancreas Transplantation, published in 2005 by theSpanish Pancreas Transplant Group (GETP) and the National TransplantOrganization (ONT) was performed. A literature review was performed usingCochrane Library, PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Some of the followingterms were used for the literature search: “Diabetes Mellitus,” “PancreasTransplantation,” “Insulin-Secreting Cells,” “Pancreas Allograft Thrombosis,”“Allograft Pancreatitis,” “Donors’ Risk Factors,” “Recipients’ Risk Factors,”“Pancreas Allograft Rejection” and “Pancreas Allograft Survival.” After anextended search, different inclusion criteria were established. Articles anddocuments with abstracts of full text and in English or Spanish language wereselected. Subsequently, different scientific meetings took place during 2015 and2016 by the GETP. Finally, the updated criteria were published by the GETP andONT in 2018. Several risk factors have been described in pancreas transplantationthat can be divided into donor risk factors: Advanced age (> 50 years);high bodymass index (BMI) (> 30 kg/m2);cause of death (e.g., stroke);previoushyperglycemia;hyperamylasemia;cold ischemia time (greater than 8 or 12 h,depending on the type of donation);the use of vasopressors in the intensive careunit or cardiac arrest;and the macroscopic aspect of the pancreas allograft. Thefollowing are recipient risk factors: Advanced age (> 50 years);active smoking;high BMI (> 30 kg/m2);and peripheral artery disease or sensorimotorpolyneuropathy. Natural sediment at a dam and its inorganic materials as adsorbents of praseodymium(Pr(Ⅲ))

The sediment deposited behind a dam(DS) and its inorganic materials(IM-DS) were characterized and used for the removal of praseodymium(Pr) from aqueous solutions. Quartz, albite, and kaolinite were found in the sediment by X-ray diffraction. Kinetic data fit well to a pseudo second-order model, the equilibrium time for DS and IM-DS was 2 h and 3 min, respectively, and the adsorption capacity was higher for Pr/DS(qe= 4.91 mg/g) than for Pr/IM-DS(qe= 3.01 mg/g) in these conditions. Pr/DS and Pr/IM-DS data isotherms were in agreement with the Langmuir-Freundlich model and the maximum adsorption capacities were 4.95 and 4.01 mg/g, respectively. Both processes are exothermic(enthalpy change, ΔH0=-22.8 and-21.8 k J/mol for DS and IM-DS, respectively), the increase of the randomness is small, and the feasibility and spontaneity are low. Praseodymium was desorbed by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium(EDTA-Na2), sodium chloride, nitric, citric, and humic acids solutions, and one hundred percent of praseodymium was desorbed by the EDTA-Na2solution. The Pr2(EDTA)3(praseodymium ethylenediaminetetraacetate) complex was completely desorbed from both materials(DS and IM-DS). Distribution coefficients(KD) depend upon praseodymium concentration,temperature, p H, and the kind of adsorbent. Chemical reactions of praseodymium with kaolinite and iron minerals could explain the adsorption.

The role of monoamines in modulating behavior

Understanding the mechanisms underlying complex behaviors re- quires a comprehensive investigation of the neurobiological factors that regulate and modulate their expression. Monoamines, such as serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline, serve a variety of essential physiological roles in modulating animal behavior. Furthermore, the evolutionary conservation of these aminergic systems spans across both vertebrates and invertebrates, having comparable effects in such diverse processes as learning and memory, aggression, mating behaviors and reproduction, stress responses, locomotion, and col- lective social behaviors （Dishman 1997; Libersat and Pflueger 2004; Kamhi and Traniello 2013; Bubak et al. 2014a; De Boer et al. 2015）. Outstanding research is currently being conducted in this field, uncovering remarkable similarities in neural circuitries even among highly divergent taxa, such as Drosophila and humans. Investigating the neural mechanisms involved in the monoaminerglc modulation of behavior across a variety of taxonomically distant species can provide researchers with a better understanding of the origins and functions of these systems. The goal of this special issue is to provide a venue in which colleagues studying similar questions across highly divergent animal systems can present their recent and groundbreaking work in this exciting area of biology. We hope this collection of papers will encourage and stimulate a dialogue on the similarities of monoaminergic function in a wide variety of animals and ultimately promote future comparative approaches when inves- tigating behavioral modulation.

Defensive pressure affects basketball technical actions but not the time-motion variables

Background: Novel player tracking technologies can change the understanding of performance determinants in team sports by allowing to accurately measuring the activity demands. The aim of this study was to identify how the defensive pressure affects the time-motion variables and the technical actions in ***: Twenty international male players(age: 16.05 ± 2.09 years, weight: 73.13 ± 8.10 kg, height: 183.10 ± 5.88 cm) played two 10 min basketball quarters, where they used a man-to-man 1/4-court defense until the 4th min(F1/4), changed to man-to-man full court(FULL) for 3 min and, from the 7th to the 10 th min returned to 1/4-court defense(S1/4). A computerized notational analysis was performed using Simi Scout and positional data were captured with the Ubisense Real Time Location System(mean sampling rate 3.74 ± 0.45 Hz per transmitter/player).Results: The time-motion variables presented similar results between defensive conditions, showing a total distance covered around 90 m/***, results suggested possible vertical jump impairments in S1/4 periods. There was more distance covered while jogging in the offensive court(38.15 ± 12.17 m/min offensive court vs. 32.94 ± 10.84 m/min defensive court, p < 0.05) and more distance covered while running in the defensive court(16.41 ± 10.27 m/min offensive court vs. 19.56 ± 10.29 m/min defensive court, p < 0.05).Conclusion: These results suggest how to improve task representativeness during specific conditioning or game-based training situations and also to help coaches' strategic decisions during the games.
