Mesozoic Evaniidae (Insecta:Hymenoptera) in Spanish Amber:Reanalysis of the Phylogeny of the Evanioidea

One new genus and five new species of the family Evaniidae are described from the Early Cretaceous （Albian） Spanish amber of Pefiacerrada-I （Province of Burgos）, San Just and Arroyo de la Pascueta （both in the Province of Teruel）： Cretevania alonsoi sp. nov., C. montoyai sp. nov., C. alcalai sp. nov., C. rubusensis sp. nov., and lberoevania roblesi gen. and sp. nov. Taxonomic changes include Cretevania pristina （Zhang and Zhang, 2000） comb. nov., C. exquisita （Zhang, Rasnitsyn, Wang and Zhang, 2007） comb. nov., C. vesca （Zhang, Rasnltsyn, Wang and Zhang, 2007） comb. nov., and C. cyrtocerca （Deans, 2004） comb. nov., as a result of the reinterpretation of the genera Procretevania and Eovernevania. The new well preserved specimens of the genus Cretevania, together with the characters shown by the type specimens of the synonymized genera, give new information about their anatomical characters of taxonomical importance, and the genus Cretevania Rasnitsyn, 1975 is re-diagnosed. The holotypes of the Russian species in amber have been revised. A cladistic analysis of fossil and extant groups of the superfamily Evanioidea is included. Cretevania had a wide palaeogeographic distribution, with the highest diversity known from Spain. The 13 known Cretevania species show a high interspecific variation mainly in wing characteristics, and a wide range of body and wing size.

Vortex Shedding Lock-in on Tapered Poles with Polygonal Cross-Section

A study to investigate the effects of taper on vortex shedding coherence on High Mast Lighting Towers (HMLT) with models of eight-, twelve-, and sixteen-sided polygonal cross-section was performed in Purdue’s Boeing Low-Speed Wind Tunnel. Partial tower models were mounted on springs to recreate a flutter phenomenon seen on high mast lighting towers and data was taken using a stationary configuration within the wind tunnel. The model was later oscillated at specified frequencies and amplitudes and the resulting wake and surface pressures were recorded and compared to the stationary cases. The researchers aim to study the characteristics of a “lock-in” phenomenon, that is, a region of pole height where there is a vortex cell with a single shedding frequency, instead of different shedding frequencies for different diameters as Strouhal theory dictates. Results show the existence of vortex cell shedding for clamped models. Using a motor and a forcing cam to recreate the elastic movement of the HMLT in ambient conditions has yielded a specific range of diameters to determine the size of the locked in vortex cells. According to standard Department of Transportation manufacturing standards for tapered HMLT, the lock in distance for small excitations (0.254 cm) would be approximately 305 cm in tower height.

Sleep disturbances and predictors of nondeployability among active-duty army soldiers: an odds ratio analysis of medical healthcare data from fiscal year 2018

A Dual Mechanism Controls Nuclear Localization in the Atypical Basic-Helix-Loop-Helix Protein PAR1 of Arabidopsis thaliana

PAR1 is an atypical basic-helix-loop-helix （bHLH） protein that negatively regulates the shade avoidance syndrome in Arabidopsis thaliana acting as a transcriptional cofactor. Consistently with this function, PAR1 has to be in the nucleus to display biological activity. Previous structure-function analyses revealed that the N-terminal region of PAR1 drives the protein to the nucleus. However, truncated forms of PAR1 lacking this region still display biological activity, implying that PAR1 has additional mechanisms to localize into the nucleus. In this work, we compared the primary structure of PAR1 and various related and unrelated plant bHLH proteins, which led us to suggest that PAR1 contains a non-canonical nuclear localization signal （NLS） in the N-terminal region. By overexpressing truncated and mutated derivatives of PAR1, we have also investigated the importance of other regions of PAR1, such as the acidic and the extended HLH dimerization domains, for its nuclear localization. We found that, in the absence of the N-terminal region, a functional HLH domain is required for nuclear localization. A novel surface mesh deformation method for handling wing-fuselage intersections

This paper describes a method for mesh adaptation in the presence of intersections, such as wing-fuselage. Automatic optimization tools, using Computational Fluid Dynamics（CFD） simulations, face the problem to adapt the computational grid upon deformations of the boundary surface. When mesh regeneration is not feasible, due to the high cost to build up the computational grid, mesh deformation techniques are considered a cheap approach to adapt the mesh to changes on the geometry. Mesh adaptation is a well-known subject in the literature; however, there is very little work which deals with moving intersections. Without a proper treatment of the intersections,the use of automatic optimization methods for aircraft design is limited to individual *** proposed method takes advantage of the CAD description, which usually comes in the form of Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines（NURBS） patches. This paper describes an algorithm to recalculate the intersection line between two parametric surfaces. Then, the surface mesh is adapted to the moving intersection in parametric coordinates. Finally, the deformation is propagated through the volumetric mesh. The proposed method is tested with the DLR F6 wing-body configuration.

The road to opportunities： landscape change promotes body-size divergence in a highly mobile species

Landscape change provides a suitable framework for investigating population-level responses to novel ecological pressures. However, relatively little attention has been paid to examine the potential influence of landscape change on the geographic scale of population differentiation. Here, we tested for morphological differentiation of red-necked nightjars breeding in a managed property and a natural reserve situated less than 10 km apart. At both sites, we also estimated site fidelity over 5 years and quantified the potential foraging opportunities for nightjars. Breeding birds in the managed habitat were significantly larger in size-as indexed by keel length-than those in the natural one. However, there were no significant differences in wing or tail length. Immigration from neighboring areas was almost negligible and, furthermore, no individual (out of 1130 captures overall) exchanged habitats between years, indicating strong site fidelity. Food supply for nightjars was equally abundant in both habitats, but the availability of foraging sites was remarkably higher in the managed property. As a result, nightjars-particularly fledglings-in the latter habitat benefited from increased foraging opportunities in relation to those in the natural site. It seems likely that the fine-scale variation in nightjar morphology reflects a phenotypic response to unequal local conditions, since non-random dispersal or differential mortality had been determined not to be influential. High site fidelity appears to contribute to the maintenance of body-size differences between the two habitats. Results from this nightjar population highlight the potential of human-induced landscape change to promote population-level responses at exceedingly small geographic scales.

An Inactivated Vaccine from a Field Strain of Bovine Herpesvirus-1(BoHV-1) has High Antigenic Mass and Induces Strong Efficacy in a Rabbit Model

Bovine Herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1) is a DNA virus belonging to the family Herpesviridae, subfamily Alfaherpesvirinae; it is a worldwide pathogen, causing serious economic losses in livestock. In Colombia there have been multiple isolates of BoHV-1 that have been subjected to molecular characterization, classifying most of the country isolates as BoHV-1.1. In the present study we developed and evaluated an ethyleneimine binary inactivated isolate from the native BoHV-1 strain (Córdoba-2) in a rabbit model of vaccination and infection. The vaccine was evaluated in two phases, one of immunogenicity with vaccination and a booster after 21 days, and an evaluation phase of protection against challenge with a highly virulent reference strain. The results demonstrate optimum serum-conversion, with protective neutralizing antibody titers 28 days post vaccination and optimal protection against challenge with the reference strain with decreased clinical signs of infection, protection against the onset of fever and decrease of virus excretion post challenge. In conclusion, our results show the enormous potential that an immunogenic inactivated vaccine has produced from the native BoHV-1.1 strain, which produces a high antigen mass to the vaccine to induce optimal immunity and protection, and it is a strong candidate for evaluation and possible future use in different cattle populations.
