Cell walls in plants,particularly forest trees,are the major carbon sink of the terrestrial *** and biosynthetic features of plant cell walls were revealed early on,focusing mostly on herbaceous model *** developments in genomics,transcriptomics,epigenomics,transgenesis,and associated analytical techniques are enabling novel insights into formation of woody cell ***,we review multilevel regulation of cell wall biosynthesis in forest tree *** highlight current approaches to engineering cell walls as potential feedstock for materials and energy and survey reported field tests of such engineered transgenic *** outline opportunities and challenges in future research to better understand cell type biogenesis for more efficient wood cell wall modification and utilization for biomaterials or for enhanced carbon capture and storage.

Bariatric surgery induces alterations in effective connectivity between the orbitofrontal cortex and limbic regions in obese patients

Obese subjects show enhanced brain responses in motivation and reward neurocircuitry encompassing sensory and somatic integration-interception, motivation-reward(striatal), emotion, and memory processes, which attenuate frontal region activation during food cues. Bariatric surgery(BS) is the only reliable treatment for morbid obesity. Unfortunately, it is unknown how BS affects neurocircuitry after weight loss. We aimed to examine effects of BS on the basal activity of brain areas involved in reward and motivation processing, emotion, memory, and gut-brain interaction. We combined resting-state fMRI with amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation(ALFF) and Granger causality analysis(GCA) to assess interactions between regions within the frontal-mesolimbic circuitry in 16 obese subjects(OB) and 22 normal-weight(NW) *** OB group was studied at baseline and 1 month post BS. Comparisons between OB and NW, and preand post BS showed significant differences in ALFF in areas involved in drive(caudate, orbitofrontal cortex(OFC)), arousal(thalamus), and conditioning/memory(amygdala, hippocampus)(P < 0.05, FDR correction). GCA revealed that in the OB group, the OFC had greater connectivity to limbic regions(amygdala,hippocampus, and medial thalamus) and the caudate. Post BS, the connectivity of the OFC to limbic regions decreased, whereas the connectivity from the amygdala and hippocampus to the caudate and thalamus was enhanced, particularly in subjects with lower body mass index(BMI). OFC activation in the OB group was associated with BMI prior to surgery, and changes in OFC post surgery were associated with alterations in BMI. Overall, the functional connectivity of the OFC was significantly decreased. Acute cytomegalovirus hepatitis in an immunocompetent patient:A case report

BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus(CMV)infection is usually subclinical and asymptomatic in the healthy population,whereas severe complications occur in immunocompromised *** SUMMARY In this case report,we described a rare case of acute CMV hepatitis in a 35-yearold male immunocompetent patient who presented with a history of week-long intermittent fever with nonspecific constitutional *** hepatitis was suspected according to the initial serological *** ruling out other etiologies,including viral hepatitis A,B,C,drug,alcohol,autoimmune,and Wilson disease,acute CMV hepatitis was diagnosed based on positive CMV IgM and DNA quantitative *** there was no any local acute hepatitis E reported in Taiwan,so hepatitis E was not *** patient recovered both clinically and serologically with symptomatic management and without antiviral therapy within 12 days from the onset of *** In conclusion,a diagnosis of CMV infection should be considered when nonspecific prodromal symptoms occur in acute hepatitis with an uncertain *** therapy should not be used in immunocompetent patient who had no decompensation of the liver,such as this *** available noninvasive tests for CMV can facilitate early diagnosis if used ***–benefit analysis is essential before using antiviral therapy in immunocompetent patients.

Neuroimaging of inflammation in alcohol use disorder: a review

Alcohol use disorder(AUD) is a global health concern associated with several *** health problems related to AUD, such as cognitive deficits, have been linked to *** use has been associated with changes in neuroimmune activity, although current literature has yielded mixed results. For example, markers of gliosis, including translocator protein 18-kDa(TSPO), proinflammatory cytokines, glutamate(Glu), and myo-inositol(mI), are disrupted in the alcohol-dependent brain. Further, neuroinflammatory-related phenomena including membrane turnover, blood brain barrier(BBB) permeability, and adenosine release have also shown alterations in AUD. However, current literature remains inconclusive about the directionality of these changes. Both in vivo and in vitro studies have provided insight on the relationship between alcohol use and neuroinflammatory processes, suggesting considerable treatment potential for alcohol use disorder and its inflammatory comorbidities. Here, we review current neuroimaging literature assessing the impacts of alcohol use on neuroimmune activity in the brain.

This paper considers the simultaneous localization and mapping （SLAM） problem where the range-only sensor is *** initialization is a critical issue in rangeonly SLAM due to the lack of bearing information from the robot to the landmarks.A new state vector is proposed to be used in solving the range-only *** the new state vector,the landmark position is represented in different ways under different *** new representation avoids the need of multiple hypotheses on the landmark positions implemented in most of the existing range-only SLAM *** and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the new range-only SLAM algorithm using the new state vector within the least squares framework.

In this paper,novel rutile-type Ti O2 coatings with cortex-like slots morphology and micro/nano dual-scale structures exhibiting super hydrophilicity,were developed on titanium using micro-arc oxidation(MAO) in three tetraborate containing electrolytes. To clarify its formation mechanism,the surface morphological evolution,the coating chemical and phase compositions and the concentration of traceable elements in electrolytes were analysed. The results show that during MAO treatment of titanium in tetraborate containing electrolytes,its morphology evolution experiences two sequential phases: formation of nano-scale pores and formation of micro-scale pores with no spray deposition and its transverse growth. After MAO,a small amount of amorphous B2O3 exists in the coating surface and Ti ion concentration in Na2B4O7 electrolyte is more than that of comparison group. Therefore,the key mechanism for formation of micro-scale pores with no spray deposition and in turn the special surface structure is considered that during MAO,[B4O7]2- as the main anion in the electrolyte participate in the chemical and physical reactions within the plasma discharge channel and the sprayed discharge product consisted of amorphous boron oxide with partially dissolved titanium oxide can be quickly dissolved in electrolyte,which,as a result,inhibits the formation of spray deposition around the micro pores.
