Metal matrix composites tiles based on Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) alloy, reinforced with 10, 20, and 40 (vol%) of either TiC or TiB particles were made using press-and-sinter blended elemental powder metallurgy (BEPM) and then bonded together into 3-layer laminated plates using hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The laminates were ballistically tested and demonstrated superior performance. The microstructure and properties of the laminates were analyzed to determine the effect of the BEPM and HIP processing on the ballistic properties of the layered plates. The effect of porosity in sintered composites on further diffusion bonding of the plates during HIP is analyzed to understand the bonding features at the interfaces between different adjacent layers in the laminate. Exceptional ballistic performance of fabricated structures was explained by a significant reduction in the residual porosity of the BEPM products by their additional processing using HIP, which provides an unprecedented increase in the hardness of the layered composites. It is argued that the combination of the used two technologies, BEPM and HIP is principally complimentary for the materials in question with the abilities to solve the essential problems of each used individually.

The first-ever case of a 54-year-old woman who overdosed on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in an attempt at *** that incident,she had not been treated for coexisting diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or *** the time of admission to the General Surgery Department,the patient reported pains in the epigastric region with accompanying nausea and vomiting with mucous content as well as the inability to ingest food *** parenteral and enteral feeding,the patient exhibited a drop in body *** histopathologic examination of a sample taken from the stomach during gastroscopy showed some non-specific necrotic and inflammatory masses with ***,a very small,infiltrated stomach with an initial section of duodenum was identified.A total stomach resection together with the reconstruction of digestive tract continuity was performed using the Roux-Y *** examination of the stomach revealed a deep,chronic and exacerbated inflammatory condition with an extensive ulceration over the entire length of the stomach,reaching up to the ***,numerous lymphatic glands with inflammatory reaction changes were observed.

High-resolution photogrammetry to measure physical aperture of two separated rock fracture surfaces

Simulation of the interactions between hydraulic and natural fractures using a fracture mechanics approach

HYDROCK method aims to store thermal energy in the rock mass using hydraulically propagated fracture *** hydraulic fractures can interact with the pre-existing natural fractures resulting in a complex fracture network,which can influence the storage *** study investigates the interactions between hydraulic and natural fractures using a fracture mechanics *** new functionality of the fracture mechanics modelling code FRACOD that enables crossing of hydraulically driven fracture by a pre-existing fracture is presented.A series of two-dimensional numerical models is prepared to simulate the interaction at different approach angles in granitic rock of low *** is demonstrated that multiple interaction mechanisms can be simulated using the fracture mechanics *** numerical results are in agreement with the modified Renshaw and Pollard analytical criterion for fracture *** results show that for large approach angles,the hydraulic fracture crosses the natural fracture,whereas for small approach angles,the hydraulic fracture activates the natural fracture and the wing-shaped tensile fractures are propagated from its ***,the presence of fractures with low dip angles can lead to the growth of more complex fracture network that could impair the thermal performance of the HYDROCK method.

AIM;Oxidative stress participates in the cell carcinogenesis by inducing DNA *** aim was to assess whether ascorbic acid,an antioxidant,could have a role in preventing ROS(Reactive Oxygen Species)generation in experimental gastric carcinoma in a rat model. METHODS:Experimental gastric cancer was induced in twelve Wistar male rats(weighting 250-350 g)by profound duodeno-gastric reflux throught split *** rats were allocated to the following groups:Group Ⅰ(n=6) was the control;Group Ⅱ(n=6)which was mantained with daily intake of tape water with Vitamin C(30 mg/Kg).After 6 or 12 months,samples of gastric tumor or non tumor mucosa were taken from the anastomosis of both groups. Oxidative stress was measured by superoxide quantification through lucigenin-amplified chemiluminescence base and by staining with *** histopathologic confirmation of adenocarcinoma was made by eosin- hemathoxilin method. 本研究的目的是为了评价有机硒和无机硒在猪饲料中作为添加剂的可同化性。试验检测了这两种不同形式的硒对屠宰价值、理化性状和肉质感官的影响(试验I),并尝试性地测定硒在试验性育肥猪体内的含量(试验II)。试验I的试验对象为20头杂交猪,基因型为(波兰大白猪×波兰长白猪)×杜洛克(Polish Large White×Polish Landrace)×Duroc;PLW×PL×Duroc);试验II则是以45头杂交育肥猪的最长肌和半膜肌作为检测样品,基因型与试验I相同。试验结果表明,在猪日常饮食中添加硒不影响屠宰性能、肉的品质和感官特性以及大部分的理化性状,并且发现硒对猪肉颜色的改变没有显著效果。经检测,有机硒实验组的育肥猪的猪肉保水能力(water holding capacity,WHC)降低,而在无机硒实验组的育肥猪的半膜肌内硒的含量最高。

The Influence of Surge Arrester Location on Over-Voltages Caused by Direct Lightning Strikes to MV Lines

In the period 2003-2011, lightning over-voltages accounted for about 47% of the total number of distribution transformer failures observed in the service area ofAES Sul, a power company that operates in the state of Rio Grande doSul, in South Brazil. This paper presents the results of an investigation on the influence of the distance between transformer and MV arresters on the surges at the transformer windings caused by direct strikes to the MV network. The analysis, performed through simulations using the Alternative Transients Program, shows that in general higher voltages are produced by subsequent strokes. Although in relation to the primary side the surges transferred to the secondary are much less affected by the distance between transformers and primary arresters, such distance should always be kept as short as possible in order to reduce the probability of occurrence of transformer failures due to over-voltages at the MV bushings.
