Association of accelerometer-derived step volume and intensity with hospitalizations and mortality in older adults:A prospective cohort study

Purpose:This study aimed to examine the associations of accelerometer-derived steps volume and intensity with hospitalizations and all-cause mortality in older ***:This prospective cohort study involved 768 community-dwelling spanish older adults(78.8±4.9 years,mean±sD;53.9% females)from the Toledo study for Healthy Aging(2012-2017).The number of steps per day and step cadence(steps/min) were derived from a hip-mounted accelerometer worn for at least 4 days at *** were followed-up over a mean period of 3.1 years for hospitalization and 5.7 years for all-cause *** proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the individual and joint associations between daily steps and stepping intensity with hospitalizations and all-cause ***:Included participants walked 5835± 3445 steps/day with an intensity of 7.3± 4.1 steps/*** adj.sting for age,sex,body mass index(BMI),education,income,marital status and comorbidities,higher step count(hazard ratio(HR)=0.95,95% confidence interval(95%CI:0.90-1.00,and HR=0.87,95%CI:0.81-0.95 per additional 1000 steps) and higher step intensity(HR=0.95,95%CI:0.91-0.99,and HR=0.89,95%CI:0.84-0.95 per each additional step/min) were associated with fewer hospitalizations and all-cause mortality risk,*** to the group having low step volume and intensity,individuals in the group having high step volume and intensity had a lower risk of hospitalization(HR=0.72,95%CI:0.52-0.98) and all-cause mortality(HR=0.60,95%CI:0.37-0.98).Conclusion:Among older adults,both high step volume and step intensity were significantly associated with lower hospitalization and all-cause mortality *** step volume and intensity may benefit older people.

Predicting grain size-dependent superplastic properties in friction stir processed ZK30 magnesium alloy with machine learning methods

The aim of this work is to predict,for the first time,the high temperature flow stress dependency with the grain size and the underlaid deformation mechanism using two machine learning models,random forest(RF)and artificial neural network(ANN).With that purpose,a ZK30 magnesium alloy was friction stir processed(FsP)using three different severe conditions to obtain fine grain microstructures(with average grain sizes between 2 and 3μm)prone to extensive superplastic *** three friction stir processed samples clearly deformed by grain boundary sliding(GBs)deformation mechanism at high *** maximum elongations to failure,well over 400% at high strain rate of 10^(-2)s^(-1),were reached at 400℃ in the material with coarsest grain size of 2.8μm,and at 300℃ for the finest grain size of 2μ***,the superplastic response decreased at 350℃ and 400℃ due to thermal instabilities and grain coarsening,which makes it difficult to assess the operative deformation mechanism at such *** work highlights that the machine learning models considered,especially the ANN model with higher accuracy in predicting flow stress values,allow determining adequately the superplastic creep behavior including other possible grain size scenarios.

Proteomic analysis of the biomineralization of spherical Brushite produced from a wheat bran aqueous extract

Wheat bran aqueous extracts provide phosphate ions and other necessary but unknown biomolecules for synthesizing spherical microparticles of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate or Brushite, which is interesting for the food industry due to its delivering nutraceuticals properties. This study tests the hypothesis that proteins are the scaffold biomolecules over which the Brushite crystals grow. Brushite was synthesized from the wheat bran aqueous extract by adding calcium ions. Precipitated particles were characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive, and infrared spectroscopies, corroborating a single Brushite phase. The Brushite particles were demineralized for searching and identifying intracrystalline proteins through mass spectroscopy and bioinformatics. six hundred and seventy-six proteins were identified in the Brushite and analyzed by their relative abundance and intrinsic disorder, giving 20 top proteins as scaffold candidates. Additionally, wheat bran aqueous extract was subjected to size exclusion chromatography to explore if a fraction is responsible for the Brushite synthesis. Four chromatographic fractions were obtained and treated as the aqueous extract to induce mineralization. Three fractions produced Brushite, from which two produced spherical brushite particles with diameters between 50 and 200 mu m. Particle size and morphology in one of the latter fractions matched those precipitated by the raw aqueous extract. Results strongly suggest that specific proteins in the wheat bran aqueous extract may have a role as a scaffold in spherical Brushite biomineralization.

Influence of the Accumulative Roll Bonding Process severity on the Microstructure and superplastic Behaviour of 7075 Al Alloy

The 7075 Al alloy was processed by accumulative roll bonding （ARB） at 350 ℃ using 2：1, 3：1 and 4：1 thickness reductions per pass （Rp） up to 8, 6 and 3 passes, respectively. Microstructural examinations of the processed samples revealed that ARB leads to a microstructure composed of equiaxed crystallites with a mean size generally lower than 500 nm. It was found that, due to both the stored energy through- out the processing and the particle pinning effect, the alloy is affected by discontinuous recrystallisation during the inter-pass heating stages, the precise microstructural evolution being dependent on Rp. Me- chanical testing of the ARBed samples revealed that the main active deformation mechanism in the ARBed samples in the temperature range from 250 to 350 ℃ at intermediate and high strain rates is grain bound- ary sliding, the superplastic properties being determined by both the microstructure after ARB and its thermal stability.

Occurrence of non-pathogenic nitrogen-fixing bacteria living within the plant tissue attracts considerable attention. The A15 strain was isolated from rice paddies in China (You and Zhou 1989, Can. j. Microbiol. 35:403-408). It can fix nitrogen under microaerobic conditions at the free-living state and it colonize rice endophytically. A15 is used as a plant growth promoting inoculant of rice in China.
