Numerical simulation of precipitation kinetics in multicomponent alloys

A universal numerical model based on the particle size distribution(PSd)approach has been developed for the simulation of precipitation kinetics in multicomponent alloys during isothermal *** was implemented utilizing the classical nucleation theory(CNT).Growth and coarsening were modeled by a single growth kinetics equation,which is constructed based on the interfacial diffusion flux balance and the capillarity *** partial off-diagonal terms in the diffusion matrix(diffusion of individual components in the matrix)were taken into account in the calculations to minimize the computational cost while coupling with CALPHAd to extract thermodynamics equilibrium around the interface.A new feature of the model is the incorporation of a more realistic spatial site distribution via a Voronoi construction in the characteristic cell,for the purpose of modifying the diffusion *** predictions of the precipitate dimensions and the precipitation kinetics were compared with the atom probe tomography(APT)measurements on ternary Ni-Al-Cr alloys isothermally aged at 873 *** is found that the temporal evolution of the dimensions and composition of the precipitates is well captured,as is the dependence on changes in the alloy *** new modification with Voronoi construction demonstrates that the overall precipitation kinetics depends on the density and the spatial site distribution of *** ability to handle sophisticated alloy chemistries by quantitative equations,the compositional sensitivity of microstructural characteristics emerging from the simulation results,and the ability to visualize the spatial distribution of precipitates make the work very promising for multicomponent alloy design and optimization.

A Re-containing Ni-base single crystal superalloy was used to investigate the elementary processes associated with stress-rupture behavior at different temperatures where theγʹrafting *** 900°C,the rupture behavior is mainly determined by the multiplication of dislocations within the wideningγchannels,which is closely linked with the propagation of microcracks along the inherentγ/γʹ*** rapid formation of lamellaγ/γʹraft structure,along with the developed-well interfacial dislocation networks,and its elastic instability are primarily responsible for the rupture behavior at 1100°*** is a clear curvature tendency in the Larson-Miller plot of stress-rupture lifetime in relation to stress at high *** indicates that the influence extent ofγʹrafting on stress-rupture behavior is sensitive to the acting conditions of temperature and stress.

Experimental investigation of axial tensile and fatigue behaviors of HTS round strands

For the development of high‐temperature superconducting(HTS)magnet systems of future fusion devices,a novel HTS round strand based on a stacking structure was designed and manufactured using second generation(2G)HTS *** mechanical loads during operation can result in irreversible degradation of the *** axial tension and fatigue loads need particular ***,it is important to investigate the electromechanical behavior of the round strand under various axial tension and cyclic *** this paper,the axial tensile and fatigue tests were conducted at 77 K,self‐*** 95%critical current(I_(c))retention as the criterion,the results of the tensile tests revealed that the average tensile stress and strain were as high as 344 MPa and 0.47%,*** characteristics were also investigated as a function of axial tensile *** significant performance degradation was observed up to 100,000 loading cycles with stress amplitudes ranging from 20 MPa to 200 *** degradation occurs after 16,000 loading cycles with 380 MPa as the maximum ***,the microscopic defects of the round strand samples due to fabrication imperfections and mechanical loading were investigated using metallographic microscope and scanning electron *** results presented in this paper are useful for comprehending and improving the mechanical behaviors of the strand in high‐field and large‐scale fusion magnet systems.

Nowadays,thermal condition and solute field are considered as the potential dominant factors controlling competitive grain growth during directional solidification ***,the controlling modes and critical conditions of competitive grain growth have been drastically debated over the past two *** this work,thermal condition and solute field are combined to study the competitive grain growth in the converging case by experimental observation and numerical simulation of bicrystal *** find the competitive grain growth is controlled by the cooperative effect of thermal condition and solute field,and the controlling modes are related to the bicrystal misorientation between favorably and unfavorably oriented *** the unfavorably oriented grain is low misoriented,unfavorably oriented grain dominates grain selection,and the competitive grain growth performs as solute field ***,with the increase of unfavorably oriented grain’s misorientation,the grain selection converts into favorably oriented grain domination,and the competitive grain growth changes to thermal condition *** explain these abnormal transformation phenomena,we propose a misorientation dependent thermal condition-solute field cooperative domination model and identify the critical conditions by a critical misorientation(θ_(cm)).According to dynamic equation of dendrite growth,we calculate the critical misorientationθ;to prove this *** theoretical calculation results agree well with the experimental results.

In this study,samples were taken from three locations,upstream to downstream,along the central route project of the China South to North Water diversion(SNWd)scheme in summer and *** were used to reveal the variations of dissolved organic matter(dOM)during the water transfer process,and the effects of these variations on drinking water treatment and disinfection by-products formation potential(dBPs-FP).The results showed that polysaccharides accumulate in summer and reduce in winter with flow distance,which has an important effect on the overall properties of dOM,as well as on the performance of coagulation,ultrafiltration,and the formation of *** substances,and their hydrophilic content,also increased in summer and decreased in winter with flow *** contrast,the concentration of small organic substances(MW≤1000 da)increased in both summer and winter with flow distance,which affected both nanofiltration(NF)membrane fouling and *** results provide a useful case study of spatial and temporal changes in raw water dOM during long distance water transfer and their impact on the treatment and quality of drinking water from the SNWd.

Compressive property and energy absorption characteristic of interconnected porous Mg-Zn-Y alloys with adjusting Y addition

In this study,interconnected porous Mg-2Zn-xY alloys with different phase compositions were prepared by various Y additions(x=0.4,3,and 6 wt.%)to adjust the compressive properties and energy absorption *** characterization methods were then applied to identify the microstructure of the porous Mg-Zn-Y and describe the details of the second *** tests were performed at room temperature(RT),200℃,and 300℃to study the impact of the Y addition and testing temperature on the compressive properties of the porous *** experimental results showed that a high Y content promotes a microstructure refinement and increases the volume fraction of the second *** the Y content increases,different Mg-Zn-Y ternary phases appear:I-phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(6)Y),W-phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(3)Y_(2)),and LPSO phase(Mg_(12)ZnY).When the Y content ranges between 0.4%and 6%,the compressive strength increases from 6.30MPa to 9.23 MPa,and the energy absorption capacity increases from 7.33 Mj/m^(3)to 10.97 Mj/m^(3)at RT,which is mainly attributed to the phase composition and volume fraction of the second ***,the average energy absorption efficiency is independent of the Y *** addition,the compressive deformation behaviors of the porous Mg-Zn-Y are altered by the testing *** compressive strength and energy absorption capacity of the porous Mg-Zn-Y decrease due to the softening effect of the high temperature on the *** deformation behaviors at different temperatures are finally observed to reflect the failure mechanisms of the struts.

Thermo-kinetic characteristics on stabilizing hetero-phase interface of metal matrix composites by crystal plasticity finite element method

Using dislocation-based constitutive modeling in three-dimension crystal plasticity finite element(3d CPFE)simulations,co-deformation and instability of hetero-phase interface in different material systems were herein studied for polycrystalline metal matrix composites(MMCs).Local stress and strain fields in two types of 3layer MMCs such as fcc/fcc Cu-Ag and fcc/bcc Cu-Nb have been predicted under simple compressive ***,more severe strain-induced interface instability can be observed in the fcc/bcc systems than in the fcc/fcc systems upon refining to metallic nanolayered composites(MNCs).By detailed analysis of stress and strain localization,it has been demonstrated that the interface instability is always accompanied by high-stress concentration,i.e.,thermodynamic characteristics,or high strain prevention i.e.,kinetic characteristics,at the hetero-phase *** then follows that the thermodynamic driving forceG and the kinetic energy barrier Q during dislocation and shear banding can be adopted to classify the deformation modes,following the so-called thermo-kinetic *** by inserting a high density of high-energy interfaces into the Cu-Nb composites,such thermo-kinetic integration at the hetero-phase interface allows a successful establishment of MMCs with the high△G-high Q deformation mode,which ensures high hardening and uniform strain distri-bution,thus efficiently suppressing the shear band,stabilizing the hetero-phase interface,and obtaining an exceptional combination in strength and *** hetero-phase interface chosen by a couple of thermodynamics and kinetics can be defined as breaking the thermo-kinetic correlation and has been proposed for artificially designing MNCs.

dear Editor,This letter is concerned with prescribed-time Nash equilibrium(PTNE)seeking problem in a pursuit-evasion game(PEG)involving agents with second-order *** order to achieve the prior-given and user-defined convergence time for the PEG,a PTNE seeking algorithm has been developed to facilitate collaboration among multiple pursuers for capturing the evader without the need for any global ***,it is theoretically proved that the prescribedtime convergence of the designed algorithm for achieving Nash equilibrium of ***,the effectiveness of the PTNE method was validated by numerical simulation results.A PEG consists of two groups of agents:evaders and *** pursuers aim to capture the evaders through cooperative efforts,while the evaders strive to evade *** is a classic noncooperative *** has attracted plenty of attention due to its wide application scenarios,such as smart grids[1],formation control[2],[3],and spacecraft rendezvous[4].It is noteworthy that most previous research on seeking the Nash equilibrium of the game,where no agent has an incentive to change its actions,has focused on asymptotic and exponential convergence[5]-[7].

In mis study,phytoplankton communities as well as environmental factors in a subtropical mussel-fish integrated pond in China were investigated during december 2012 to November *** showed distinct seasonal density shifts in community structure at both taxonomic and functional *** was the dominant assemblage in low and moderate temperature,especially in january,April and *** was gradually replaced by Cyanophyta with increase in temperature and formed cyanobacterial bloom in *** became the most dominant group in the following six months with the second dominant assemblages of Cyanophyta,Cryptophyta and Bacillariophyta every two months in *** was the dominant assemblage in March with low temperature and nutrients *** appeared that water temperature and total nitrogen(TN) were the most critical factors driving phytoplankton community shift in terms of density and biomass,respectively.

Universal insertion of molecules in ionic compounds under pressure

Using first-principles calculations and crystal structure search methods, we found that many covalently bonded molecules such as H2, N2, CO2, NH3, H2O and CH4may react with NaC l, a prototype ionic solid,and form stable compounds under pressure while retaining their molecular structure. These molecules,despite whether they are homonuclear or heteronuclear, polar or non-polar, small or large, do not show strong chemical interactions with surrounding Na and Cl ions. In contrast, the most stable molecule among all examples, N2, is found to transform into cyclo-N5-anions while reacting with NaC l under high pressures. It provides a new route to synthesize pentazolates, which are promising green energy materials with high energy density. Our work demonstrates a unique and universal hybridization propensity of covalently bonded molecules and solid compounds under pressure. This surprising miscibility suggests possible mixing regions between the molecular and rock layers in the interiors of large planets.
