Vaccine efficacy and its quantification is a crucial concept for the proper design of public health vaccination *** this work we proposed a mathematical model to estimate the efficacy of the influenza vaccine in a real-word *** particular,our model is a SEIr-type epidemiological model,which distinguishes vaccinated and unvaccinated ***,its dynamics is governed by a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations,where the non-linearity arises from the effective contacts between susceptible and infected *** key aspects of this study is that we use a vaccine distribution over time that is based on real data specific to the elderly people in the Valencian Community and the calibration process takes into account that over one influenza season a specific proportion of the population becomes infected with *** consider the effectiveness of the vaccine,the model incorporates a parameter,the vaccine attenuation factor,which is related with the vaccine efficacy against the influenza *** this framework,in order to calibrate the model parameters and to obtain an influenza vaccine efficacy estimation,we considered the 2016–2017 influenza season in the Valencian Community,Spain,using the influenza reported cases of vaccinated and *** order to ensure the model identifiability,we choose to deterministically calibrate the parameters for different scenarios and we find the one with the minimum error in order to determine the vaccine *** calibration results suggest that the influenza vaccine developed for 2016–2017 influenza season has an efficacy of approximately 76.7%,and that the risk of becoming infected is five times higher for an unvaccinated individual in comparison with a vaccinated *** estimation partially agrees with some previous studies related to the influenza *** study presents a new integrated mathematical approach to study the influenza vaccine efficacy and gives f

This contribution discusses about the rheological, kinematic and dynamic frameworks necessary to produce recumbent and upright folds from syn-orogenic granitic massifs that were formed during an early stage of magma genesis related to the onset of a migmatitic dome. Syn-kinematic granitoids occurring within the high-grade infrastructure of the padron migmatitic dome(NW Iberia) are deformed into largescale recumbent folds(D_2) that are later affected by upright folds(D_3). petrostructural analysis of a selected area of this dome reveals that after a period of crustal thickening(D_1), NNW-directed extensional flow gave way to recumbent folds and penetrative axial plane foliation(S_2). Superimposed subhorizontal compression resulted in upright folds(D_3). A closer view into the dynamics of the dome allows exploring the factors that may condition the nucleation of folds with contrasting geometries during progressive deformation of molten continental crust. The formation of folds affecting syn-kinematic granitoids suggests a cooling metamorphic path in migmatitic domes. Active and passive folding mechanisms require a crystallizing(cooling) magma to nucleate folds. A more competent metamorphic host inhibits fold nucleation from much less competent magmas. As it crystallizes, magma becomes more rigid(competent),and approaches viscosity values of its host. passive folding is favored when no significant competence contrast exists between magma and host, so this folding mechanism is more likely shortly after magma genesis and emplacement. In such conditions, and under dominant subhorizontal flow accompanied by flattening(D_2),passive folding would produce isoclinal recumbent geometries. Further magma cooling introduces a shift into the rheological behavior of partially molten crust. The aim of this article is to assess the outcomes of a low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy(LiESWT)protocol for the treatment of peyronie’s disease(pD).patients treated for pD were prospectively recorded,and data were retrospectively ***,characteristics of fibrous plaques,concomitant treatments,International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5),Lue score,and pain score on Likert scale were *** in acute phase of pD and an angulation ofre *** protocol consisted of 6 weekly sessions of 4000 pulses each,applied from different directions,with a maximal power of 20 W and 8 Hz *** included 39 patients(median age:56.8 years,interquartile range[IQr]:35.8–62.2 years).The median number of sessions received per patient was *** treatment,the median Lue score decreased from 6.8 initially to 3.3(p=0.003),the median Likert pain score dropped from 1.8 to 0.7(p=0.004),the median plaque size was reduced from 2 cm to 1.2 cm(p=0.08),and the median penile curvature diminished from 31°to 17°(p=0.07).On univariate and multivariate analysis,the only predictors of success were younger age(odds ratio[Or]=0.95,p=0.03 and Or=0.91,p=0.04,respectively)and concomitant use of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors(pDE5i;Or=0.92,p=0.02 and Or=0.93,p=0.01,respectively).LiESWT had a favorable impact on Lue score and notably penile pain,curvature,plaque size,and erectile function in patients treated for pD during the early inflammatory phase,with no side *** age and concomitant use of pDE5i were the only success predictors.

The ferroelectric response of bismuth titanate Bi4Ti3O12 （BIT） thin film is studied through a Monte Carlo simulation of hysteresis loops. The ferroelectric system is described by using a Diffour Hamiltonian with three terms： the electric field applied in the z direction, the nearest dipole-dipole interaction in the transversal （x-y） direction, and the nearest dipole-dipole interaction in the direction perpendicular to the thin film （the z axis）. In the sample construction, we take into consideration the dipole orientations of the monoclinic and orthorhombic structures that can appear in BIT at low temperature in the ferroelectric state. The effects of temperature, stress, and the concentration of pinned dipole defects are assessed by using the hysteresis loops. The results indicate the changes in the hysteresis area with temperature and stress, and the asymmetric hysteresis loops exhibit evidence of the imprint failure mechanism with the emergence of pinned dipolar defects. The simulated shift in the hysteresis loops conforms to the experimental ferroelectric response.

2,4,6-trinitrotoluene(TNT) and its derivatives are nitrogen-containing aromatic compounds having chemical and thermal stability at ambient temperature and pressure. TNT has high toxicity and mutagenic activity to humans, plants and animals, thus decontamination processes are necessary. Many microorganisms are capable to bioremediate TNT such as bacteria from the genera pseudomonas,Enterobacter, rhodococcus, Mycobacterium, Clostridium and Desulfovibrio: fungus such as phanerochate and Stropharia species are able to perform TNT biotransformation under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In this work we review the state of TNT biodegradation by various routes: aerobic, anaerobic,combined, fungal, enzymatic, and bio-electrochemical.

reverse Engineering (rE) involves the use of techniques aimed to retrieve information about manufactured products, not only regarding geometries, but also materials and functionality. Today, even if several rE techniques are known, many of them still leave the object unusable to analyze. Nevertheless, other alternatives to this problem allows for obtaining a Digital or Virtual Model (VM) via the three-dimen- sional scanning. Getting the VM of an item, via scanning or not, can offer many possibilities to digital analysis (FEM). Furthermore, starting from VM, it is possible to achieve the physical reproduction of an element, part or workpiece—in the same or different materials—using Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies. This enables to improve the product through a redesign process. In this paper, a rE based methodology is proposed for redesigning a tool for contour milling, after comparing different microscopy based techniques, 3D-Scanner tools and CAD-CAGD utilities for generating a Virtual Model of the newly designed mill.
