Impa.t of Meta.olic-Syndrome Risk Fa.tors on the a.senteeism of Hea.th Workers from a.Bra.ilia. University Hospita.

Obj.ctive: a.a.yzing the a.socia.ion between Meta.olic Syndrome (MS) risk fa.tors a.d work a.senteeism due to illnesses a.ong University Hospita. employees in Sa.va.or City, Ba.ia. Bra.il. Methods: Cross-sectiona. study comprised 1173 Ba.ia.Federa. University Hospita. employees: 57.3% of them were federa. employees (sta.utory officers) a.d 42.7% were civil serva.ts (CLT employees). Pa.ticipa.ts were in the a.e group 41.5 yea.s: 69.4% were fema.e a.d 30.6% were ma.e. Results: MS preva.ence in employees rea.hed 6.6%;women a.counted for 69.7% of the tota.. The percenta.e increa.es with a.e a.d ha. simila. proportion a.ong directca.e providers a.d a.cilla.y supports personnel, 40.8% a.d 39.5%, respectively. The risk fa.tor a.a.ysis showed 25% hypertension, 54.6% weight excess (18.4% obese a.d 36.2% overweight pa.ients), 20% hypercholesterolemia. 9.9% hypertriglyceridemia.a.d 6.5% dia.etes mellitus preva.ence. a.senteeism longer tha. one da. within the studied popula.ion rea.hed 40.1%. Osteoa.ticula. disea.es were the most common rea.on for a.senteeism, a.counting for 50.7% of it: 62.6% of whom were either overweight or obese. The mea. cost with a.senteeism per employee wa. R$5492.87 ($2347.00 US Dolla.s), a.d it corresponds to a.nua. cost of R 2,587,139.53 ($1,105,610.00 US Dolla.s). The highest cost with a.senteeism ca.sed by illnesses wa. recorded for fema.e workers;for federa. employees who were pa.ient ca.egivers, who worked in the Pedia.ric Centre a.d who worked a. night shifts. Conclusion: The high Meta.olic Syndrome risk fa.tors a.d overweight incidence a.e responsible for the increa.ed costs fa.ed by hospita.s due to high a.senteeism ra.es.

Obj.ctive： Describing the cha.a.teristics of the MRI （ma.netic resona.ce ima.ing） of pa.ients with a.D （a.quired demyelina.ing disorder） followed in a.specia.ized pedia.ric clinic. Methods： Descriptive a.d retrospective study of the MRIs of a.pedia.ric a.D cohort. The included ima.es were a.quired in ma.hines with 1.5 or 3T ma.nets. Low-qua.ity ima.es were excluded. The ra.iologica. cha.a.teristics of the lesions were described using the 2010 Revised McDona.d Dia.nostic Criteria.rega.ding loca.iza.ion, contra.t enha.cement a.d optic nerve a.tera.ions. Results： Twenty-three pa.ients were included （55% fema.e）. The mea. a.e of the first clinica. event wa. 7.7 yea.s. Most common dia.nosis wa. Clinica.ly Isola.ed Syndrome （35%）, followed by Multiple Sclerosis （30%）, neuromyelitis Optica.（17%） a.d a.ute Dissemina.ed Encepha.omyelitis （17%）. Mea. time ela.sed until dia.nosis wa. 1.8 yea.s. Follow-up MRIs of a.EM pa.ients showed complete or pa.tia. resolution of lesions; MS lesions were mostly loca.ized in the bra.n a.d four pa.ients ha. contra.t enha.cement of lesions in their la.t a.a.la.le MRI. a.l nMO （neuromyelitis optica. pa.ients ha. extensive spina. lesions, a.d two ha. optic neuritis. a.l pa.ients with CIS （clinica.ly isola.ed syndrome） ha. foca. spina. lesions a.d evolved with ra.iologic improvement. Conclusions： a.EM a.d CIS pa.ients＇ MRIs showed lesion reduction, while MS a.d nMO pa.ients developed new lesions during follow-up.

Unca.ia.tomentosa.presents tomentum tha. resembles ca.’s cla.s, hence its common na.e, is a.pla.t tha. produces va.ious seconda.y meta.olites tha. a.e tra.itiona.ly used in a.terna.ive medicine. The na.ura. distribution of this species ha. been a.fected by indiscrimina.e ha.vesting from its ha.ita.. In the present resea.ch, cryopreserva.ion (liquid nitrogen, Ln, -196°C) wa. eva.ua.ed a. a. option for ex situ conserva.ion of this species. The following techniques were eva.ua.ed: vitrifica.ion a.d enca.sula.ion-dehydra.ion of a.ices, vitrifica.ion of cell suspensions, a.d seed desicca.ion a.d vitrifica.ion. Preculture conditions a.d exposure times to LS a.d PVS2 were eva.ua.ed. a.ex surviva. wa. the highest (82%) with preculture in 0.25 M sucrose followed by incuba.ion for 20 a.d 30 min in LS a.d PVS2, respectively, prior to cooling in Ln. The enca.sula.ion-dehydra.ion technique wa. eva.ua.ed by using sucrose preculture a.d different ca.sule moisture contents. Surviva. of a.ices cooled in Ln wa. not significa.tly different between trea.ments a.d va.ied from 31.8% to 52.9% for ca.sule moisture contents between 22.7% a.d 20.3%. For cell suspensions precultured in 0.5 M sucrose, cell multiplica.ion a.d forma.ion of ca.li with very good a.pea.a.ce were observed in 61.1% of the cultures following vitrifica.ion. For cryopreserva.ion of seeds, germina.ion wa. 89.5% using the desicca.ion technique a.d 67.6% to78.1% using vitrifica.ion.

Sorption ha. been proposed a. a.promising a.proa.h towa.ds a.susta.na.le wa.er deconta.ina.ion a.d recently to the recycling of ra.e ea.th elements(REE).a.though living sea.eed ha.e been shown to be ca.a.le of removing REE from conta.ina.ed solutions,no studies ha.e yet compa.ed the effects of REE competition on sorption onto different groups of *** effects were a.a.ysed in the present study by exposing six living sea.eeds(Ulva.la.tuca.Ulva.intestina.is,Fucus spira.is,Fucus vesiculosus,Gra.ila.ia.*** Osmundea.pinna.ifida.(3 g/L,fresh weight) to mono-element a.d multi-element solutions of Y,La.Ce,Pr,nd,Eu,Gd,Tb a.d Dy(1 μmol/L).Results show a.preference towa.ds light REE in mono-element solutions,which is reduced when in competition with other *** competitive effect is less pronounced in hea.y REE indica.ing tha. these a.e still a.le to bind to the ma.roa.ga. despite the presence of competing *** to wa.er content(%),sea.eed specific surfa.e a.ea.cm^(2)/g) shows to be a. importa.t fa.tor in the sorption of REE,since la.ger surfa.e a.ea.is a.socia.ed with higher remova. a.d la.ger competitive effect.
