Coastal erosion that is generated by the reduction of the annual sediment yield at river outlets,due to the construction of reservoirs,constitutes one of the main environmental problems in many parts of the *** is one of the most important boundary rivers,flowing through Bulgaria and Greece,characterized by its great *** the Greek part of the river,two reservoirs,the Thisavros reservoir and the Platanovrysi reservoir,have already been constructed and started operating in 1997 and 1999,*** present paper constitutes the first attempt where the assessment of reservoir sedimentation effect on the coastal erosion for the case of the nestos river delta and the adjacent shorelines is addressed in detail,through mathematical modeling,modern remote sensing techniques and field *** is found that the construction and operation of the considered reservoirs have caused a dramatic decrease(about 83%)in the sediments supplied directly to the basin outlet and indirectly to the neighbouring coast and that this fact has almost inversed the erosion/accretion balance in the deltaic as well as the adjacent *** the construction of the reservoirs,accretion predominated erosion by 25.36%,while just within five years after the construction of the reservoirs,erosion predominates accretion by21.26%.

The proper determination of the curve number （Cn） in the SCS-Cn method reduces errors in predicting runoff volume. In this paper the variability of Cn was studied for 5 Slovak and S Polish Carpathian catchments. Empirical curve numbers were applied to the distribution fitting. next, theoretical characteristics of Cn were estimated. For loo-Cn the Generalized Extreme Value （GEV） distribution was identified as the best fit in most of the catchments. An assessment of the differences between the characteristics estimated from theoretical distributions and the tabulated values of Cn was performed. The comparison between the antecedent runoff conditions （ArC） of Hawkins and Hjelmfelt was also completed. The analysis was done for various magnitudes of rainfall. Confidence intervals （CI） were helpful in this evaluation. The studies revealed discordances between the tabulated and estimated Cns. The tabulated Cns were usually lower than estimated values; therefore, an application of the median value and the probabilistic ArC of Hjelmfelt for wet runoff conditions is advisable. For dry conditions the ArC of Hjelmfelt usually better estimated Cn than ArC of Hawkins did, but in several catchments neither the ArC of Hawkins nor Hjelmfelt sufficiently depicted the variability in Cn.

Land plants and algae form a supergroup, the Archaeplastida, believed to be monophyletic. We report the results of an analysis of the phylogeny of putative globins in the currently available genomes to bacterial and other eu- karyote hemoglobins （Hbs）. Archaeplastida genomes have 3/3 and 2/2 Hbs, with the land plant genomes having group 2 2/ 2 Hbs, except for the unexpected occurrence of two group 1 2/2 Hbs in ricinus communis. Bayesian analysis shows that plant 3/3 Hbs are related to vertebrate neuroglobins and bacterial flavohemoglobins （FHbs）. We sought to define the bacterial groups, whose ancestors shared the precursors of Archaeplastida Hbs, via Bayesian and neighbor-joining anal- yses based on COBALTalignment of representative sets of bacterial 3/3 FHb-like globins and group I and 2 2/2 Hbs with the corresponding Archaeplastida Hbs. The results suggest that the Archaeplastida 3/3 and group 1 2/2 Hbs could have orig- inated from the horizontal gene transfers （HGTs） that accompanied the two generally accepted endosymbioses of a pro- teobacterium and a cyanobacterium with a eukaryote ancestor. In contrast, the origin of the group 2 212 Hbs unexpectedly appears to involve HGT from a bacterium ancestral to Chloroflexi, Deinococcales, Bacilli, and Actinomycetes. Furthermore, although intron positions and phases are mostly conserved among the land plant 3/3 and 2/2 globin genes, introns are absent in the algal 3/3 genes and intron positions and phases are highly variable in their 2/2 genes. Thus, introns are irrelevant to globin evolution in Archaeplastida.

We have carried out a numerical simulation of the effect of gold doping on the electrical characteristics of long silicon diodes exposed to neutron irradiation. The aim is to investigate the effect of gold on the hardness of the irradiated diodes. The reverse current voltage and capacitance voltage characteristics of doped and undoped diodes are calculated for different irradiation doses. The leakage current and the effective doping density are extracted from these two characteristics respectively. The hardness of the diodes is evaluated from the evolution of the leakage current and the effective doping density with irradiation doses. It was found that diodes doped with gold are less sensitive to irradiation than undoped ones. Thus gold appears to stabilise the electrical properties on irradiation. The conduction mechanism is studied by the evolution of the current with temperature. The evaluated activation energy indicates that as the gold doping or irradiation dose increases, the current switches from the basic diffusion to the generation-recombination process, and that it can even become ohmic for very high gold densities or irradiation doses.

Terlipressin has been shown to improve both pulmonary and systemic hemodynamics in stable cirrhotic patients with pulmonary hypertension,whereas other vasoconstrictors may cause pulmonary pressures to deteriorate We investigated the pulmonary and systemic hemodynamic effects of the first terlipressin dose(2 mg) in 7 cirrhotic patients with PH presenting with variceal bleeding(n=4) or hepatorenal syndrome(n=3).Terlipressin decreased pulmonary vascular resistance(158.8±8.9 vs 186.5±13.9 dynes sec cm-5 ;P=0.003) together with an increase in systemic vascular resistance(2143± 126 vs 1643±126 dynes sec cm-5 ;Prlipressin should be the vasoconstrictor treatment of choice when patients present with variceal bleeding or HrS.
