Headedness in Yorǘhbá： An Examination of the Deviant Value of Determiner Phrase

The issue of ＂headedness＂ is a product of Chomsky＇s （1988） notion of UG （Universal Grammar） that led to the development of a framework known as P＆P （Principles and Parameters） theory. It is this theory we have adopted for our analysis in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to examine the inconsistency in the value of Head Parameter with reference to the value of DP （determiner phrase） in Yorfib^i. As a native speaker of Yorfib~, the author has adopted an introspective method of data collection and used the intuitive knowledge of other native speakers of the language for necessary clarifications. Despite the fact that English and Yorfib~ are both head-initial, the structure of the NPs （noun phrases） in English shows that the head noun is always pre-modified, making the NP ＂head-final＂--a violation of the value of Head Parameter in the language. This necessitated the need for Abney＇s （1987） DP hypothesis; in which the determiner heads its own phrase, thereby making a NP in English head-initial. This solves the problem of Head Parameter in English. However, since nouns in Yor/lb^i are post-modified, adopting ＂DP-analysis＂ will automatically produce head-final--a violation of the value of Head Parameter in the language. Given the inconsistency in the specification of head-complement order among the noun phrases in English and Yorfib~, this paper proposes to set a parameter for SVO （Subject-Verb-Object） languages with pre-modification （like English） to adopt ＂DP-analysis＂, and those with post-modification （like Yorfib^t） to adopt ＂NP-analysis＂. This will ensure ＂head-initial＂ value for the two categories of SVO languages

Experimental Analysis of Sediment Deposition Due to the Effect of an Upstream Reservoir Backwater

The phenomenon of aggradation due to sediment accumulation upstream reservoirs had been studied in this research. For this purpose, groups of experiments were conducted in a laboratory with 25 m long, 0.80 m wide and 0.70 m deep channel. A block was built at the end of the channel to work as a dam to impound water. The channel was supplied with drainage pipes on both sides to release water out in a manner similar to what happens in reservoirs. The bed of the channel was filled with sand of 0.80 mm median sieve diameter and 0.72 geometric standard deviation. The slope was 0.0093 for all experiments. Two sizes of sand were used representing the sediment. The median diameter and geometric standard deviation of the first were 0.365 mm and 0.46 mm, respectively. The second sample had 0.65 mm median diameter and 0.67 standard deviation. A total of 70 experiments were conducted in two groups to examine effects of sediment transport rate, particle size of sediment and flow velocity on aggradation characteristics. The results showed that there was a strong linear direct relationship between aggradation elements （length and depth） with the rate of sediment transport. Groups of dimensionless parameters affecting the aggradation characteristics were used to develop empirical equations to predict the length, maximum depth of aggradation and predict transient bed profile. The results of empirical approach were compared with the measurement data and previous numerical method. The results indicated that the percentage error was 19% to 31% for length of aggradation and -21% to 26% for maximum depth of aggradation. The results also showed that the sediment materials were deposited closer to the body of the dam when the released water from the dam is higher than the inflow.

In this paper we show that, under some conditions, if M is a manifold with Bakry-émery Ricci curvature bounded below and with bounded potential function then M is compact. We also establish a volume comparison theorem for manifolds with nonnegative Bakry-émery Ricci curvature which allows us to prove a topolological rigidity theorem for such manifolds.

Mosul dam is the biggest hydraulic structure in Iraq located on the River Tigris 60 km northwest of Mosul city. Its storage capacity is 11. 11 × 109 m3 and it had been in operation since 1986. A physical distorted model with movable bed having a vertical scale 1： 100 and a horizontal scale 1：1000 was used to conduct the experiments relating the water level at the reservoir and water discharge upstream the reservoir with the bed load transport rate. The model represents the first 15 km of most northern part of Mosul dam reservoir. The construction of the model was based on bathymetric survey conducted in 2009. Twenty-four experiments were executed using four different discharges （0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 L/s） which represent the average discharges in the flood period of River Tigris. At each individual discharge six operations were assumed where the reservoir＇s water level was 305, 307, 309, 310, 312, 315 meters above sea level respectively. In all the experiments conducted, bedload transport was measured in the physical model at section representing the River Tigris 1 km upstream the reservoir. The results showed that the bedload rate was decreasing when the water level within the reservoir was increasing. It was also evident that bedload transport rate dramatically decreased at level 310 meters above sea level onward. This is due to the fact that at this level represent the effect of backwater which was noticeable on the river cross section

Reservoirs are usually exposed to sediment accumulation problems that will lead to reduction in their storage capacity. This problem directly affects the performance of the dams and causes shortage of their useful life. The simplest technique to estimate sediment deposition rate is using sediment rating curve with sediment trapping efficiency (TE) of the reservoir. Many empirical and semi-empirical approaches have been suggested for to determine this term depending on the annual inflow rate, reservoir characteristics and features of the catchments area. In this study six different empirical methods depending on the residence time principle (water retention time) were used. These approaches were reviewed and applied to determine TE of Mosul dam reservoir (MDR) for period 1986 to 2011. The monthly operating data for inflow, outflow and water elevations for MDR were used to determine monthly TE and long-term TE for whole period of MDR using the mentioned methods. Furthermore, the monthly inflow rate for River Tigris upstream MDR, its sediment rating curve and sediment feeding from valleys around MDR were used to estimate the amount sediment coming to the reservoir. The results provided by these methods for TE with sediment coming to MDR were used to compute the amount of sediment deposited in MDR on monthly bases during this period. The results obtained were evaluated using observed bathymetric survey data that had been collected in 2011 after 25 years of the operation of the dam. The results showed all the mentioned methods gave convergent results and they were very close to bathymetric survey results for estimating the volume of sediment deposited especially that proposed by Ward which gave 0.368% percentage error. Furthermore, the result computed using monthly TE gave good agreement if compared with that long-term TE where the percentage error was ranging between –3.229% to 1.674% for monthly adopted data and –4.862% to?–2.477% for whole period data. CDK2 is one of the most important members of Cyclin-dependent kinases. It is a critical modulator of various oncogenic signaling pathways, and its activity is vital for loss of proliferative control during oncogenesis. This work has focused on developing a pharmacophore model for CDK2 inhibitors by using a dataset of known inhibitors as a pre-filter throughout the virtual screening and docking process. Consequently, the best pharmacophore model was made of one hydrogen bond acceptor, and two aromatic ring features with a high correlation value of 0.906. The validation findings proved out that the selected model can be used as a filter to screen new molecules like Enamine kinase hinge region directed library against CDK2. As a result, 69 hits were subjected to molecular docking studies. Eventually, three compounds (5909, 701 and 8397) scored

Obayied sub-basin provides one-third of the annual natural gas production in the Egyptian Western Desert. The origin of the Obayied hydrocarbons are however poorly constrained. In this study， the molecular biomarkers of the Obayied hydrocarbon blend were studied to infer on their origin and generation mechanism. API values are in the range of (41.3°-53.7°) reflecting post-mature hydrocarbons. The molecular biomarkers suggest a generation of Obayied crude from clay-rich fluvio-deltaic source rocks. Age- and maturity-relevant biomarkers (e.g. Ts/Tm trisnorhopanes and methylphenanthrene indices) reflect a successive expulsion of the Obayied crudes from mature Jurassic rocks (> 1%Ro). Biological markers correlate perfectly with those of the Jurassic Khatatba shale and coal extracts attesting. Additionally， the Obayied gases are wet， thermogenic and have been derived from a mature (1.3%-2%Ro) type III kerogen. The studied gases display compositional characteristics of mixed coal- and oil-type gases， and were therefore derived via primary cracking of the Khatatba coal as well as secondary cracking of the light liquid crudes. The present study clarifies the controls on the geochemical processes responsible for the accumulation of liquid and gas hydrocarbon mix in the deep as well as shallow inverted rift basins of the north Western Desert， Egypt.

Although Geometric Brownian Motion and Jump Diffusion Models have largely dominated the literature on asset price modeling, studies of the empirical stock price data on the Ghana Stock Exchange have led to the conclusion that there are some stocks in which the return processes consistently depart from these models in theory as well as in its statistical properties. This paper gives a fundamental review of the development of a stock price model based on pure jump processes to capture the unique behavior exhibited by some stocks on the Exchange. Although pure jump processes have been examined thoroughly by other authors, there is a lack of mathematical clarity in terms of deriving the underlying stock price process. This paper provides a link between stock prices existing on a measure space to its development as a pure jump Levy process. We test the suitability of the model to the empirical evidence using numerical procedures. The simulation results show that the trajectories of the model are a better fit for the empirical data than those produced by the diffusion and jump diffusion models.
