The study is an attempt to assess the health profiles of the elderly people in Bangladesh based on primary data purposively collected from three greater districts of the country. Simple statistical tools were used to analyze the data. The sample profile showed that most of the elderly（55.7 percent） were average state of health and only 20.3 percent were not in good health. The analysis also showed that respondents’ present state of health is significantly allied with their age, level of education, monthly income, proper sanitation facilities and number of son or daughter, dwelling place and type of the family. So, this piece of work may be helpful for the policymakers to deal with the health problems of the elderly.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a Gram-positive bacterium of great clinical relevance, is a lethal pathogen owing to its complex physiological characteristics and development of drug resistance. Several molecular genetic tools have been developed in the past few decades to study this microorganism. These tools have been instrumental in understanding how M. tuberculosis became a successful pathogen. Advanced molecular genetic tools have played a significant role in exploring the complex pathways involved in M. tuberculosis pathogenesis. Here, we review various molecular genetic tools used in the study of M. tuberculosis. Further, we discuss the applications of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat interference（CRiSPRi）, a novel technology recently applied in M. tuberculosis research to study target gene functions. Finally, prospective outcomes of the applications of molecular techniques in the field of M. tuberculosis genetic research are also discussed.

Wilt complex disease of eggplant is a severe problem in Bangladesh as well as in the world. The pathogenic variability and their survival nature make the disease complex. The pathogen includes a fungus (i>Fusarium oxysporum), i>ai> i>bacterium (i>Ralstonia solanacearum)i> and a nematode (i>Meloidogyne i>spp.) that attack the plant individually or combinedly. The present investigation aimed to evaluate the integrated effects of different chemicals, poultry manure and i>Trichoderma harzianumi> to manage the disease. Carbendazim (Autostin 50WP), Streptomycin sulphate 9% and Tetracycline hydrochloride 1% (Krosin 10SP) and Carbofuran (Furadan 3G) were used as a fungicide, bactericide and nematicide, respectively which were integrated with poultry manure and i>Trichoderma harzianum i>resulting in sixteen treatmentsi>.i> The treatment efficacy varied significantly in comparison to control in respect of wilt incidence, yield and yield contributing characters. No wilt incidence was observed where i>Trichoderma harzianum i>was applied individually or in combination with Furadan 3G, Krosin 10SP, Autostin 50WP and poultry manure. Biodegradable reinforced composites are playing a vital role in the variety of application for their outstanding performance. Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) and Polyethylene Tere-phthalate (PET) blends were prepared by twin screw extruder in different composition. The mechanical properties in 10% PET with LLDPE blend showed the best results where as tensile strength (TS) 9 MPa and percentage elongation at break (%Eb) 33. Cellulose based reinforced PET + LLDPE composite were prepared by compression molding with the optimized jute content 62% that revealed the highest mechanical properties. Cellulose based composites treated with Acacia catechu (AC) solutions (0.1% - 5% w/v) at different soaking time (2 - 20 min.) where observed significant improvement of the mechanical properties. Cellulose treated with 0.1% AC for 2 minutes soaking time depicted the highest mechanical properties and TS is 115% higher than untreated. Composite prepared with 0.1% AC treated showed the best mechanical properties as tensile strength (TS), bending strength (BS), tensile modulus (TM) and bending modulus (BM) were to be 47 MPa, 39 MPa, 1220 MPa and 1784 MPa respectively. The properties of TS, BS, TM and BM were improved as 9%, 30%, 14% and 34% respectively, which were better to untreated composite. Electrical properties such as dielectric constant and loss of the treated and untreated composites were found to be higher dielectric constant of treated jute composite than that of untreated samples. Water uptake and soil degradation of untreated and treated composites performed in significant study. The effect of AC with cellulose composites has found in remarkable changes in the mechanical properties.

Bio-Diesel from Mustard Oil: A Renewable Alternative Fuel for Small Diesel Engines

Enzyme activities in tomato juice of five different varieties ***,Marglove,BARi-1,BARi-5 and BARi-6,in relation to sugar accumulation were investigated at different maturity *** highest amount of invertase and β-galactosidase was found in Marglove and the lowest in BARi-6 at all maturity *** soluble sugar and sucrose contents were highest in BARi-1 and lowest in *** activity of amylase was maximum in Ratan and minimum in *** activity was highest in Ratan and lowest in ***-1 contained the highest cellulase activity and the lowest in *** amount of total soluble sugar and sucrose increased moderately from premature to ripe *** activities of amylase and cellulase increased up to the mature stage and then decreased drastically in the ripe *** activities of invertase and protease increased sharply from the premature to the ripe stage while the β-galactosidase activity decreased *** detectable amount of reducing sugar was present in the premature stage in all cultivars of tomato but increased thereafter upto the ripe *** highest reducing sugar was present in BARi-5 in all of the maturity stages.

This paper represents the prospect of mustard oil as a renewable and alternative fuel. To cope up with present load-shedding situation and to reduce the dependency on imported fuel, Bangladesh government is encour- aging the use of renewable energy sources. Since diesel engines have versatile uses including small irrigation pumping systems, and standby small electricity generators, use of diesel fuel is much higher than any other gasoline fuels. in Bangladesh mustard oil has been in use as edible oil throughout the country. Mustard is a widely growing plant in Bangladesh and every year the production of mustard seed exceeds the demand. So the endeavor was to use the surplus mustard oil as an alternative to diesel fuel. Fuel properties are determined in the fuel testing laboratory with standard procedure. An experimental set-up is then made to study the performance of a small diesel engine in the heat engine laboratory using different blends of bio-diesel converted from mustard oil. it is found that bio-diesel has slightly different properties than diesel fuel. it is also observed that with bio-diesel, the engine is capable of running without difficulty but with a deviation from its optimum performance. initially different blends of bio-diesel (i.e. B20, B30, B50 etc,) have been used to avoid complicated modification of the engine or the fuel supply system. Finally, a comparison of engine performance for different blends of bio-diesel has been carried out to determine the optimum blend for different operating conditions.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effect of Momordica charantia (wild and hybrid variety) powder on alloxan induced type 2 diabetic male Long-Evans rats. Oral feeding of the M. charantia powder slightly decreased serum total cholesterol, triglyceride levels and LDL-cholesterol compared with wild, hybrid and standard drug. M. charantia wild variety showed more significant (p M. charantia did not show any significant effect on HDL-cholesterol and liver glycogen. Thus, results of the study prove that the wild variety of M. charantia fruit have potent antidiabetic and antilipidemic property.

Pathogenic strains of E. coli including enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC), enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) are principle causes for diarrhoea in many parts of the globe. Citrobacter rodentium (C. rodentium), a gram negative bacterium, is a murine pathogen that also utilizes type iii secretion system and similar virulence factors to EPEC and EHEC and forms comparable attaching/effacing lesions in the intestines as EPEC and EHEC. The infection caused by C. rodentium in mice is usually self-limiting and results in only minor systemic effects with higher mortality in some susceptible mouse strains. All these characteristics have made the bacteria a commonly used model to study host immune responses to pathogenic E. coli infection. in this review, we focus on the impact of virulence factors of the pathogen;different immune components involved in the immune response and summarize their role during C. rodentium infection.

比较肿瘤患者使用TIVAP和PICC的不良事件率和费用的Meta分析

背景:植入式输液港装置(Totally implantable Venous Access Port,TiVAP)和外周植入式中心静脉导管(Peripherally inserted Central Catheters,PiCC)是在接受化疗或完全肠外营养的肿瘤患者中应用最广泛的两种中心静脉通路。TiVAP的使用寿命比PiCC长,而PiCC的初期费用比TiVAP低。然而如今并没有很好的指南可以供临床医生在患者中以最低的成本安全地使用它们。因此,比较TiVAP和PiCC在肿瘤患者中使用的并发症和费用差异,以及各自的优缺点,包括使用期间或使用后所导致的线路闭塞、感染、导管相关血栓、渗出、静脉炎、错位和意外取出率等,这可以使临床医师为患者做出更好的决策提供依据。医生通过熟悉它们的使用方法、相关并发症、以及并发症的诊断和管理,可以更确保患者的安全以及减轻患者的额外经济负担。方法:我们严格按照cochrane系统评价及Meta分析操作指南的要求,通过检索美国国立医学图书馆(The United States National Library of Medicine,NLM)、澳大利亚循证护理合作中心(Joanna Briggs institute,JBi)、Cochrane图书馆、美国科学网(Web of Science)、CiNAHL数据库、中国生物医学文献数据库(China Biology Medicine disc,CBM)、中国知网(China National Knowledge infrastructure,CNKi)、谷歌学术(Google Scholars)等数据库,全面的搜索出在癌症患者中应用TiVAP和PiCC的相关回顾性研究的英文文献;然后采用病例对照研究质量评估标准表(Newcastle-ottawa quality assessment scale,NOS评分量表),对每一篇病例对照研究的病例组和对照组的病例从病例选择、可比性、暴露等三个维度进行分层评估,满分9分;接着提取其中的每个病例的导管寿命、导管相关并发症如:导管闭塞、导管引起的感染、导管位置不正、导管相关血栓、导管存留导致的过敏、导管滞留引起的疼痛以及导管的使用期间的总费用,其中费用还分为6个月的费用和12个月的费用情况等相关数据。两名审查员共同完成筛选、试验选择、质量评估、数据提取等工作,当遇到有分歧时,通过共同讨论,得出一致性结果,从而确定最终的评分及纳入文章。得到的数据采用STATA10软件进行Meta分析,比值比(Odds Ratio,OR)值及95%置信区间(Confidence interval,Ci)用于评估二分类变量,其中OR值=1意味着两组发生率相等、两发生率无统计学意义,OR值的森林图的无效竖线在横坐标=1处。标准均值差(Standardized Mean Difference,SMD)用于计算连续性变量如导管寿命和导管相关总花费,是试验组的均数减去对照组均数的差,SMD=0代表了两组的均数无统计学意义,故SMD的森林图的无效竖线在横坐标=0处。i检验用于对试验各组间的差异进行异质性检验,当iii>50%为高度异质性检验,当异质性i小于50%时,我们采用固定效应模型,当异质性较大,i大于50%时,采用随机效应模型。结果:1.在我们的结果中,我们共纳入病例对照研究8篇,均为英文文献,共1316名患者被纳入研究。文献质量NOS评分均≥6分。***分析结果显示,置管相关数据中,4项研究比较了TiVAP组与PiCC组的意外移除率,首先对这4项研究进行异质性检验(iiCC组导管意外移除率相比,结果为(OR:0.531,95%Ci,0.25-1.129,P>0.05),显示无明显统计学差异。4项研究比较了TiVAP组与PiCC组的导管寿命,首先对这4项研究进行异质性检验(i>50%),研究间存在着较为明显的异质性,故采用随机效应模型。TiVAP组的寿命与PiCC组的寿命相比,结果为(SMD:1.742,95%Ci,0.935-2.548,PiVAP组与PiCC组的导管闭塞事件,首先对这4项研究进行异质性检验(iiVAP组与PiCC组的闭塞事件相比,结果为(OR:0.11,95%Ci,0.03-0.38,PiVAP组的闭塞发生率明显低于PiCC组。有7项研究比较了TiVAP组与PiCC组的导管相关感染,首先对这7项研究进行异
