The global community witnessed vigorous and aggressive campaigns in the past three decades since the advent of HIV and AIDS. Various strategies have been used in this regard in order to advocate safer sex practices among the youth. The article argues that although three decades later, HIV infections are reported to be declining in the regions that were worst hard hit, specifically southern Africa, and there is still a need to promote condom-use among youth aged between 15 and 25. Through text and reception analysis, the article examines discourses of sexual self-responsibility in a purposively selected poster(advocating condom-use) from a host of HIV and AIDS prevention posters and banners advocating HIV and AIDS prevention in 2006-2009, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Informed by Foucault's notion of the "panoptic gaze" and "techniques of the self", an in-depth textual analysis of the posters is conducted. Norman Fairclough's CDA, augmented by Thompson's ideologies and Kress and van Leeuwen's The Grammar of Visual Design, are used to reveal the language and visual strategies used by the originators of the posters to reveal risk governmentality that may be subsumed in the interplay between the verbal and non-verbal features used in the texts. Furthermore, Hall's reception theory is employed to reveal responses of the students through Focus Group Discussions. The article analyses the discursive self "I" and the second-person deictic pronoun "You" as strategies employed by the campaigns to promote self-surveillance and individual agency. The article argues for continued efforts in condom promotion to reduce HIV infections and while doing so, for the inclusion of youth in designing prevention messages.

Biosphere reserves are protected areas whose purpose is to combine conservation and sustainable ***,their effectiveness has not been tested sufficiently,especially from an ecological and genetic ap*** this sense,the Peromyscus genus represents an excellent bioindicator to address these questions,due to its short life and high evolutionary rate and *** conservation managers,genetic structure can increase the rate of loss of genetic diversity because alleles exclusive of a subpopulation are more likely to disappear as a consequence of genetic drift in comparison with a panmictic *** we analyzed the abundance,movement distances,morphology/morphometry and genetic structure of 3 populations of mexican deer mouse(Peromyscus mexicanus)located in different protected zones of La Tigra National Park(Honduras).Our results are consistent among the 3 approaches and showed the highest values of abundance,morphometry and genetic diversity in the population located at the core zone,whereas non-statistically significant differences were found between buffer and transition zone populations,suggesting suitable effectiveness of conservation management in the core zone but a lack of ecological buffering function of the other *** addition,the low movement distances and high genetic structure among the studied populations provide evidence of poor conservation management in the buffer and transition ***,we discuss the utility of the novel methodology used in this work,combining morphometry,abundance and genetics,in testing the effectiveness of conservation strategies in biosphere reserves,and the value of the Peromyscus genus as a bioindicator.

The positive ecological interaction between gap formation and natural regeneration has been examined but little research has been carried out on the effects of gaps on natural regeneration in forests under different intensities of *** study evaluates the composition,diversity,regeneration density and abundance of natural regeneration of tree species in gaps in undisturbed,intermittently disturbed,and disturbed forest *** Tano Forest Reserve in Ghana was the study area and three gaps each were selected in the three forest site *** circular subsampling areas of 1 m2 were delineated at 2 m spacing along north,south,east,and west transects within individual *** on natural regenerationm height were *** results show that the intensity of disturbance was disproportional to gap *** diversity differed significantly between undisturbed and disturbed sites and,also between intermittently disturbed and disturbed sites for Simpson’s(1-D),Equitability(J),and Berger-Parker(B-P)***,there was no significant difference among forest sites for Shannon diversity(H)and margalef richness(mI)*** species composition on the sites *** density on the disturbed site was significantly higher than on the two other *** abundance and density of shade-dependent species on all sites identified them as opportunistic replacements of gap-dependent *** species giving way to shade tolerant species is a natural process,thus make them worst variant in gap regeneration.

Plant diseases severely reduce crop yields and threaten global food ***-spectrum resistance(BSR)is a desirable trait because it confers resistance against more than one pathogen species or the majority of races/strains of the same *** control plant diseases,breeders have selected BSR to reduce disease occurrence and prolong the life-span of newly released cultivars in the last several decades(mundt,Phytopathology 108(7):792–802,2018).Although effective,breeding of BSR cultivars in crop plants is still time-consuming and technically ***,new gene-editing technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 have dramatically accelerated the process of plant breeding and provided an approach for rapidly creating new varieties with BSR and other beneficial traits(Borrelli et al.,Front Plant Sci 9:1245,2018).In addition,close surveillance of pathogen populations in the field can provide useful information for the deployment of appropriate resistance genes in the target *** this mini-review,we focus on the significance and application of the exciting results from two recent companion papers published in Nature Biotechnology that provide new strategies to develop crop plants with BSR against pathogens through targeted promoter editing of susceptibility genes in plants as well as pathogen population monitoring.

In this study,the role of twin-twin interactions on the distributions of local defects(e.g.,dislocations)and stress fields in a magnesium alloy is investigated.A co-zone(1012)-(1012)tensile twin junction in a deformed mg-3wt.%Y alloy is analyzed using transmission electron microscopy(TEm).The results show that the morphology of the impinging(1012)twin is asymmetric,and the non-interacting boundary of the recipient(1012)twin is *** analysis of TEm images reveals that type-II pyramidal[1213](1212)dislocations concentrate in the vicinity of the twin-twin junction *** samedislocations are also observed inside the interacting twin domains along with a few ***dislocations emanating from the impinging(1012)twin boundary have edge character and are extended with faults parallel to the basal *** contrast,thedislocations connected to the recipient(1012)twin are predominantly screw orientation and ***-viscoplastic fast Fourier transform based crystal plasticity calculations are performed to rationalize the observed twin morphology and local dislocation *** model calculations suggest that the local stress fields generated at the junction site where the two twins meet are responsible for the experimentally observed concentration of*** calculated stress fields are asymmetric with respect to the junction site,explaining the observed asymmetric morphology of the impinging ***,these findings show strong effects of twin-twin interactions on the distribution of dislocations as well as the evolution of the twinned microstructure and as such,can help advance understanding of twinning in mg alloys and their effect on mechanical behavior.

Despite major improvements concerning its diagnosis and treatment,pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) remains an aggressive disease with an extremely poor prognosis. Pathology,as interface discipline between basic and clinical medicine,has substantially contributed to the recent developments and has laid the basis for further progress. The definition and classification of precursor lesions of PDAC and their molecular characterization is a fundamental step for the potential identification of biomarkers and the development of imaging methods for early detection. In addition,by integrating findings in humans with the knowledge acquired through the investigation of transgenic mouse models for PDAC,a new model for pancreatic carcinogenesis has been proposed and partially validated in individuals with genetic predisposition for PDAC. The introduction and validation of a standardized system for pathology reporting based on the axial slicing technique has shown that most pancreatic cancer resections are R1 resections and that this is due to inherent anatomical and biological properties of *** standardized assessment of prognostic relevant parameters represents the basis for the successful conduction of multicentric studies and for the interpretation of their ***,recent studies have shown that distinct molecular subtypes of PDAC exist and are associated with different prognosis and therapy *** prospective validation of these results and the integration of molecular analyses in a comprehensive pathology report in the context of individualised cancer therapy represent a major challenge for the future.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)can develop extra-renal complications and as a result,suffer from end stage renal failure requiring kidney transplantation(KT).A brief review of available literature revealed that IBD patients undergoing KT have shorter overall survival rates compared to their *** reporting steroid regimens and survival outcomes specific to IBD and post kidney transplant are scarce and these studies have small sample sizes thus making it difficult to draw accurate *** research is required in the form of a randomized controlled study to clarify the effect and mechanism of steroid immunosuppression on the prognosis of renal transplant recipients and explore new treatment schemes.

Italy is characterized by widespread geomorphological instability,among which landslides leave impressive marks on the ***,landslide bodies may represent key sites for thematic and educational itineraries,especially in protected areas,where their management becomes an important *** study focuses on the"monte Rufeno Nature Reserve"(Central Apennines,Italy),where iconic landslides are ***,the"Scialimata Grande di Torre Alfina"landslide(SGTA)is listed in the regional Geosite *** work aims to propose a multiscale procedure for landslide analysis,in terms of both hazard sources but also educational and geoheritage enhancement opportunities in natural *** performing a Landslide Susceptibility conditional Analysis(LSA)for the reserve territory,attention was focused on the SGTA,to define properly its features and morphodynamics.A multi-disciplinary approach was adopted,by applying both remote sensing(UAV structure from motion,Photointerpretation)and field survey(geomorphological and GPS monitoring).From the LSA,based on drainage density,curvature,and slope triggering factors,the road and trail susceptibility maps were derived,as base tools for future risk assessments and trail paths management within the *** the SGTA scale,the monitoring showed a displacement of up to 23 m during the time interval between 2015 and *** landslide dynamics seem to be driven by alternating dry and extremely wet periods;moreover,leaks from the aqueduct in the detachment area and piping effects through clays may have also decreased the substrate *** SGTA complex influence on the Paglia River valley geometry was also hypothesized,underlining the action of landslide through different spatial scales(on-site and off-site)and on different environment features(sediment connectivity,hydrology).Finally,the SGTA appears highly representative of the geomorphic dynamics within the Nature Reserve(i.e.,scientific value)and it could be
