Beyond authorship: Analyzing contributions in PLOs ONE and the challenges of appropriate attribution

subtle Influence of the Weibull shape Parameter on Homer Optimization space of a Wind Diesel Hybrid Gen set for Use in southern Brazil

Wind power is an increasingly important alternative for obtaining energy supplies, both in large interconnected power systems and in smaller hybrid systems and even in backup systems. The temporal and spatial variability of the winds represent an obstacle to be overcome so that wind energy can be increasingly used. The capacity factor of wind farms shows how this variability impacts the operation of the plants and its value is of the order of 30% to 35%. The variability of the wind speed is influenced if the point of interest is on land or on sea, the shape of the surface, the proximity of water bodies, among other factors. The availability of wind is best described by the Weibull probability distribution, which has as one of its defining parameters one which is termed as shape parameter. This parameter is much higher as higher is the variability of the wind speed. This paper studies the subtle influence of Weibull shape parameter on the optimal combination of components in a wind diesel hybrid system, by means of computer simulations with the well known software Homer. The results indicate a relatively small influence (as expected) in the studied system, which appears particularly when the cost of diesel is higher and the availability of wind is lower.

Perianal disease in inflammatory bowel disease:Broadening treatment and surveillance strategies for anal cancer

synthesis of ZsM-22 in static and Dynamic system Using seeds

ZsM-22 was synthesized using various sources of silica, organic template 1,6-diaminohexane, under hydrothermal conditions, with and without agitation during crystallization. subsequently, the crystallized material was used as seeds to accelerate the crystallization process. Characterization of the ZsM-22 samples was performed by XRD, ATG/DTG and FT-IR. It was found that it is possible to synthesize ZsM-22 employing colloidal silica and pyrolytic silica as silicon sources only if the system is stirred during crystallization. The crystallization time for these systems was 13 hours, longer times of crystallization do not significantly increase the crystallinity of the sample. The addition of seeds significantly accelerates the crystallization of ZsM-22, reducing the crystallization time to only 7 hours, with stirring and with systems employing colloidal silica.

Influence of the Tropical Atlantic Ocean’s sea surface Temperature in the Eastern Northeast Brazil Precipitation

An analysis of the rainfall of the Eastern Northeast Brazil (ENEB) during the period from April to June and the processes of ocean-atmosphere interaction were performed during different episodes of sea surface Temperature (ssT) inter-hemispheric gradient of Atlantic tropical (GRAD). For this, we used a dataset covering the 1981 to 2010 period, composed by: monthly data of accumulated precipitation of the Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP);surface fluxes obtained from reanalysis of the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP);vertically integrated moisture flux divergence of the global model of European Centre for Medium Range Forecasting (ECMWF) reanalysis;ssT data from the NCEP. seven GRAD_s (southward ssT gradient in the intertropical Atlantic) and five GRAD_N (northward ssT gradient in the intertropical Atlantic) were selected. When the south Atlantic Ocean is warmer, the oceanic and atmospheric conditions are favorable to higher monthly precipitation near to the ENEB. We also observed a pronounced moisture convergence over parts of the ENEB during both, GRAD_s and GRAD_N episodes. The weather phenomena that operates remotely amplifying or inhibiting the rain also helps the rainy season;however, it appears that the contribution was greater than the spatial distribution of rainfall intensity.

Dynamic Analysis of steel Platforms When subjected to Mechanical Equipment-Induced Vibrations

The competitive trends of the world market have long been forcing structural engineers to develop minimum weight and labour cost solutions. A direct consequence of this new design trend has been a considerable increase in problems related to undesired floor vibrations. For this reason, structural floor systems can become vulnerable to excessive vibrations that are produced by, for example, impacts due to mechanical equipment （e.g., rotating machinery）. This study investigates the dynamic behaviour of a production platform constructed of steel and located in the santos Basin （Merluza field）, sao Paulo/sP, Brazil, when subjected to impacts produced by mechanical equipment （rotating machinery）. The structural model consists of two steel decks with a total area of 1,915 m^2 （upper deck： 445 m^2, lower deck： 1,470 m^2） and supported by piles. A numerical analysis is performed to assess the dynamic impacts on the deck structure originating from the electrical generators and compressors. Based on the peak acceleration values obtained for the structure steady-state response, it is possible to evaluate the structural model performance in terms of human comfort, the maximum tolerances of the mechanical equipment and the vibration serviceability limit states of the structure.

Miscibility Behavior of Polyacrylamides Poly(Ethylene Glycol)Blends:Flory Huggins Interaction Parameter Determined by Thermal Analysis

Blends of polyacrylamide—PAM, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)—PNIPAAm, poly(N-tert-butylacrylamide)—PTBAA, poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide)—PDMAA and poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide)—PDEAA with poly(ethylene glycol)— PEG were prepared by casting in methanol and water at concentrations of 20 wt%, 40 wt%, 60 wt%, and 80 wt% in PEG. The miscibility of the components was studied by Differential scanning Calorimetry—DsC. All blend systems are characterized by a single glass transition temperature (Tg), close to the Tg of the amorphous component. The Hoffman Weeks method was used to determine equilibrium melting temperature (Tm) data. The determination of the melt point depression of the blends allowed the calculation of Flory-Huggins interaction parameter (χ12) of the two polymers in the melt, by using the Nishi Wang equation. The interaction parameters, calculated for all the blends, are slightly negative and close to zero, suggesting a partial miscibility between the components.

simulating Ocean and Tidal Current Power Plants with Homer

The oceans can provide us with several direct sources of renewable energy, such as wave energy, energy from currents and energy in thermal gradients among other energy resources. The uses of these resources have not yet reached technical and economic maturity, but they have experienced significant advances in recent years. In this process, tools for feasibility analysis of hybrid systems including specific power plants are important. This article is dedicated to the feasibility study of hybrid systems containing power plants based on the energy of ocean and tidal currents. The software currently available for feasibility studies do not present specific models already developed for the simulation of this kind of power plants. Thus, this technical note shows how Homer software (Legacy version) can be used to conduct this type of study in pre-feasibility level. This article also presents a case study in which Homer is applied, focused only on Homer adaptation but without exhausting the subject, showing a feasibility window that would include current power plants with certain cost and efficiency in an existing PV wind biodiesel hybrid system.

Combinatorial therapies for spinal cord injury repair

spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various aspects of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tested in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair processes by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.

A study on Ethanolysis and Methanolysis of Coconut Oil for Enzymatically Catalyzed Production of Biodiesel

Biodiesel production by enzymatic catalysis has been the subject of much research for developing processes that can potentially compete with other types of catalysis. The objective of this study was to investigate the variables that influenced the transesterification of coconut oil catalyzed by immobilized lipase for biodiesel production. A full 24 factorial design with the variables tempera-ture (40°C - 60°C), enzyme concentration (3% - 7%), oil-ethanol ratio (1:6 - 1:10) and alcohol type (methanol-ethanol) was performed. The best conversion result (80.5%) was obtained using ethanol with a higher temperature, molar ratio and enzyme concentration. The obtained yields showed that the results attained with ethanol were more significant when compared with methanol.
