Vaccination against COVID-19 is the most recognised means of containing the pandemic. Vaccines are not without side effects, particularly vascular thrombosis. But before blaming the vaccines, a thorough assessment of thrombotic risk factors is necessary. We report a case of arterial and venous thrombosis after vaccination with AstraZeneca revealing an exaggeration of factor VIII in a 37-year-old female patient. the angioscanner showed a venous thrombosis of the right subclavian, a pulmonary embolism and the presence of a thrombus in the aorta. the biology was in favour of a high level of factor VIII. the patient was treated with an antivitamin K, and the clinical evolution was favourable.

Introduction: Ambulatory Blood Pressure Measurement (ABPM) is a non- invasive examination recommended for subjects at high cardiovascular risk, and those requiring a nocturnal drop in BP such as elderly and obese subjects, those with secondary hypertension or resistant, diabetics, subjects with metabolic syndrome or sleep apnea syndrome. the objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of ABPM in the diagnosis and evaluation of the level of control of hypertension under treatment at the Bel Air international clinic. Materials and Methods: this is a retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study, carried out at the Bel Air International Clinic in Conakry (Guinea) between January 2019 and November 30, 2022. It included a consecutive series of 180 consenting patients recruited through an ambulatory measurement of 24-hour blood pressure from a FUGADA brand device. Results: We collected 180 patients, with a male predominance (sex-ratio M/F = 2.46). the mean age of the patients was 48.48 ± 14.23 years. the most represented age group was that of 32 to 42 years with 50 cases (27.8%) followed by that of 43 to 52 years with 42 cases or 23.3%. the indication was for diagnostic purposes in 106 cases 58.9%, the therapeutic evaluation in 58 patients (32.2%). the examination was prescribed by a cardiologist in 98 cases (54.4%), a general practitioner in 71 cases (39.4%), a neurologist in 11 cases (6.1%). In the therapeutic evaluation, high blood pressure was controlled in 24 patients (13.3%) and uncontrolled in 34 cases (18.9%). In the diagnostic indication, high blood pressure was confirmed in 79 cases (43.9%) with a statistically significant link (Chi2 = 4.57 and p-value = 0.032). the nycthemeral mean was 187.27 ± 26.22 mmHg for systolic blood pressure (SBP) and 110.37 ± 19.06 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure (DBP), during the day, 151.64 ± 21.45 mmHg for SBP and 71.59 ± 8.67 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure. Background: the relationship between sickle cell disease and malaria is the subject of much controversy. However, there is a lack of data in our services. Our objective was to study the epidemiological, diagnostic and evolutionary characteristics of malaria in children with sickle cell disease followed in a specialized setting. Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study of children with sickle cell disease (SCD) who presented with malaria and were followed at the Ambulatory Care Unit for Sickle Cell Children and Adolescents (USAD) at the Albert Royer National Children’s Hospital in Dakar, from January 1st, 2017, to December 31th, 2019. We included all the followed pediatric patients, less than 16 years, with sickle cell disease who presented at least one episode of malaria, confirmed by a positive thick drop, during this 3 years. We did not include patients with incomplete records or those older than 16 years. the clinical and biological signs, the follow up was collected and analyzed with Excel package 2019. Results: Of 3773 patients followed for sickle cell disease, 21 had presented malaria. the frequency was 0.5% or 7 cases/year. However, we exploited the data of 14 of them. the sex ratio was 6 boys for a girl and the mean age at admission was 7.3 years. the highest number of malaria cases was observed in 2018 and the peak frequency was observed in November with 8 cases (57.1%). Fever was the most frequent symptom, observed in 10 patients (71.4%). All patients were SS homozygous, with a mean baseline hemoglobin level of 7.5g/dl. All patients had a positive thick blood smear and Plasmodium falciparum was the only species found in the blood smear, with a mean parasite density of 1693 parasites/ml of blood. Ebstein’s anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease. We report a series of 4 cases of Ebstein’s anomaly discovered in adolescents. the mean age was 13.75 ± 0.96, with 3 boys and one girl. three were in heart failure. the EKG showed atrial hypertrophy (1 case), right bundle branch block (1 case), Wolff-Parkinson-White (1 case), and atrial fibrillation (1 case). Cardiomegaly was present in all patients with a mean cardiothoracic index of 0.77 ± 0.03. On echocardiography, the mean apical displacement of the tricuspid septal leaflet was 22.5 ± 3.30 mm/m2, the Celermajer index was Grade 2 in 2 patients and Grade 4 in 2 patients. Depletive medical treatment was prescribed to 3 patients. Anticoagulant therapy was initiated in one patient. two are awaiting surgery. One death was recorded, it was at Grade 4 of the Celermajer index.

the general objective of the work is to compare the effect of the addition of synthetic citric acid compared to the addition of natural fruit juice of Citrus aurantiifolia on the conservation of drink based on red chalice H. sabdariffa. the tests were carried out over a period of 5 weeks at 4°C and 37°C with seven batches of beverage samples prepared at the rate of a calyx/water ratio of 1/40 (kg·kg-1) and added respectively citric acid at 1, 2 and 4 g·L-1 and lemon juice at 10, 20 and 40 mL·L-1. the characterization of the different batches of beverages was carried out from day one. A follow-up of the residual anthocyanin content and the intensity of the red coloring were carried out over five weeks. the anthocyanin concentration was determined by the pH-differential method. the red color degradation index is determined based on the CIELAB color system (L*, a*, b* and L*). R and Minitab 18 software was used for data processing. the results of the monitoring of the parameters showed that the concentration of 1 g AC L-1 retains 2.7 mg more of the anthocyanins than adding 10 mL JC L-1 and longer maintains red color when stored at 4°C and 37°C/5 weeks. the 2 g AC L-1 and 4 g AC L-1 ratios have the same effects as the addition of 20 and 40 mL of lemon juice, all accelerating the degradation of anthocyanins and the red color. After 5 weeks of storage at 37°C, the effect of the temperature combined with the increase in the acidity of the samples (2 to 4 g AC L-1 and 20 to 40 ml JC L-1), have accelerated the total disappearance of the red color on all samples.

Introduction: the birth of conjoined twins is an event extremely rare that offers unique therapeutic challenges and circumstances. We must examine each situation with the many questions that arise and which sometimes require a long reflection. We report a case of separation of pygopages conjoined twins as well as a review of the literature. Patients and Observations: a pair of conjoined twins aged 11 days, weighing 3080 g between them, was referred to the neonatology department from the Faranah prefecture, 300 km from Conakry, for care. the mother, a 30-year-old housewife, multipara, eight gestures and nine parities, had not followed any prenatal consultation. the delivery took place at home in a village with the death of the mother immediately postpartum. the clinical and paraclinical investigation had concluded with the diagnosis of Siamese type pygopage. After multidisciplinary consultation, the surgical treatment by separation of the twins was carried out at the age of 50 days with success and preservation of the physiological functions. Conclusion: the birth of conjoined twins is extremely rare. Each pair of Siamese is different and the surgical strategy must be adapted according to the shared organs. the perfect multidisciplinary work of the medical staff has been the main contributor to our success.

Objective: to study the epidemiological, histological and therapeutic characteristics of endometrial cancer in the Gynecology-Obstetrics department of the Donka National Hospital, CHU of Conakry. Methods: We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of 86 patients with endometrial cancer treated in the Gynecology-Obstetrics department of the Donka National Hospital from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2021, based on their medical records. We analysed the epidemiological, histological and therapeutic aspects of the disease. Results: Endometrial cancer accounted for 3.1% of the 2793 gynecological pathology cases registered in the department during the study period, ranking third. the mean age of the patients was 63 ± 5 years. Most of them were uneducated (59.3%), postmenopausal (91.9%), nulliparous (30.2%), obese (65.1%) and hypertensive (77.1%). More than half of the patients (53.4%) were diagnosed at stage I. Endometrioid adenocarcinoma was the predominant histological type (68.6%). Surgery was performed in 96.6% of the patients, and chemotherapy in 14.0%. After a mean follow-up of 15 months, 84.5% of the patients were alive. Conclusion: Endometrial cancer is a common gynecological malignancy in our department. Endometrioid adenocarcinoma is the most frequent histological subtype. Surgery is the main treatment modality.

We report accurate wavelengths for the three most intense lines (resonance line: 1s2 1S0 - 1s2p 1P1, intercombination line: 1s2 1S0 - 1s2p 3P1 and forbidden line: 1s2 1S0 - 1s2s 3S1) along with wavelengths for the 1s2 1S0 - 1snp1P1 and 1S0 - 1snp3P2 (2 ≤ n ≤ 25) transitions in He-like systems (Z = 2 – 13). the first spectral lines that belong to the above transitions are established in the framework of the Screening Constant per Unit Nuclear Charge method. the results obtained agree excellently with various experimental and theoretical literature data. the uncertainties in wavelengths between the present calculations and the available literature data are less than 0.004Å. A host of new data listed in this paper may be of interest in astrophysical and laboratory plasmas diagnostic.
