A number of studies have investigated peripheral inflammatory indices, including plasma cytokines and related molecules according to subtypes of dementia, but not in mild cognitive impairment （MCI）. In this study, we used multiplex cytokine assay to assess the plasma levels of 22 cytokines in patients with MCI subtyped as amnestic and non-amnestic, according to cognitive features. When comparing the levels of plasma growth factors, chemokines and cytokines, plasma levels of monocyte chemotactic protein 3 （MCP-3）, and beta-nerve growth factor （β-NGF） in these two groups, they were found to be significantly higher in amnestic MCI patients than in non-amnestic MCI patients, after adjusting for age and gender. This suggests that plasma MCP-3 and β-NGF may be useful in differentiating subtypes of MCI.

In this study, a series of numerical analyses was performed in order to evaluate the performance of full-scale closed-loop vertical ground heat exchangers constructed in Wonju, South Korea. The circulating HDPE pipe, borehole and surrounding ground formation were modeled using FLUENT, a finite-volume method (FVM) program, for analyzing the heat transfer process of the ground heat exchanger system. Two user-defined functions (UDFs) accounting for the difference in the temperature of the circulating inflow and outflow fluid and the variation of ground temperature with depth were adopted in the FLUENT modeling. The thermal conductivities of grouts (cement vs. bentonite) measured in laboratory were used as input values in the numerical analyses to compare the thermal efficiency of the cement and bentonite grouts used for installing the closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger. A series of numerical analyses was carried out to simulate in-situ thermal response tests performed in the construction site. From the comparison between the in-situ thermal response test results and numerical simulations, the average thermal conductivity of the ground formation in the construction site is back-calculated as approximately 4 W/mK. This value can be used in evaluating the long-term performance of the closed-loop vertical ground heat ex changer.

BACKGROUND:Appropriate palliation for unresectable pancreatic head cancer is most *** study was undertaken to compare the survival of patients with biliary obstruction caused by unresectable pancreatic head cancer after surgical and non-surgical palliation. METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed 69 patients who underwent palliative treatment for unresectable pancreatic head ***-two patients with locally advanced disease (local vascular invasion)and 17 with distant metastatic disease were *** patients were divided into two groups,surgical and non-surgical palliation. RESULTS:Thirty-eight patients underwent biliary bypass surgery and 31 had percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage(PTBD).There was no significant difference in the early complications,successful biliary drainage, recurrent jaundice,and 30-day mortality between surgical palliation and ***,in 52 patients whose tumor was unresectable secondary to local vascular invasion,the rate of recurrent jaundice after successful surgical biliary palliation was lower than that in patients who had non- surgical palliation(P<0.05).The patients who underwent surgical palliation had a longer hospital-free survival rate(P<0.001),although they had a longer postoperative hospital stay(P=0.004)during the first admission ***:In patients with preoperative evaluations showing potentially resectable tumors and/or no metastatic lesions,surgical exploration should be ***,in patients who have unresectable cancer or limited metastatic disease on exploration,surgical palliation should be performed for longer survival and better quality of survival.

Objective： To evaluate the effectiveness of scalp acupuncture （SA）, a modern acupuncture technique specialized to neurological disorders, in managing motor function and symptoms for Parkinson＇s disease （PD） patients. Methods： Two independent reviewers extracted data from all of the randomized clinical trials （RCTs） that assessed the efficacy of SA for PD compared with conventional therapies （CTs）. Sixteen electronic databases were searched. The risk of bias was appraised with the Cochrane Collaboration tool, and the reporting of the included studies was evaluated by the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials （CONSORT） 2010 checklist and the revised Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture （STRICTA） guidelines. Results： In total, 4 RCTs met the inclusion criteria. As assessed by the Unified PD Rating Scale （UPDRS）, 2 RCTs showed that SA combined with CTs proved superior to CTs alone [60 cases; weighted mean difference, -3.94; 95% confidence interval （CI）, -6.05 to -1.64, P=0.01; 12=0%]. Based on the Webster scale, however, 3 RCTs showed no superior effect of SA when combined with CTs with high heterogeneity （154 cases; risk ratio, 1.29; 95% CI, 0.79 to 2.12, P=0.30; 12=84%）. The Cochrane risk of bias, adherence to the CONSORT and the STRICTA checklist showed that the quality of all the included RCTs was generally low. Conclusions： The result of our systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that the effectiveness of SA for PD is promising, however, the evidence is not convincing. A sham-controlled RCT design that adheres to the CONSORT and STRICTA guidelines to overcome methodological weakness and that includes a large sample size is strongly recommended to confirm the precise effect of SA on PD.

Highly dense and ultrathin gadolinia-doped ceria interlayer for enhanced performance of large-area anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell

The fabrication of a highly dense and ultrathin Gd doped ceria(GDC) interlayer on a large-area, porous electrolyte-coated planar anode support using vacuum slurry coating is studied for application in solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs). The electrolyte-coated planar anode support body is fabricated by tape casting and pre-sintering is performed at 1100, 1150, and 1200°C. The GDC interlayer is coated onto the pre-sintered electrolyte-coated anode support using a vacuum slurry coating process with different immersion times(30–60 s). A highly dense and ultrathin GDC interlayer with a thickness of 1.48 μm is produced after co-sintering at 1400°C. The 1200°C pre-sintered electrolyte-coated anode support showed a thin and highly dense GDC interlayer which is attributed to a lower shrinkage difference between the coated GDC interlayer and pre-sintered body. The electrochemical performance of a vacuum slurry-coated GDC interlayer cell is 38 % higher compared to that of the screen-printed GDC-coated cell at 700°C due to the greatly reduced Ohmic and electrode polarization resistances. The considerable improvement in the performance is attributed to the ultrahigh GDC density which has prevented the secondary phase formation between the cathode and electrolyte. This study presents the economical, scalable, and reproducible process for the fabrication of highly robust GDC interlayer for the large-area planar anode-supported SOFCs.

Objective： To obtain fundamental information for the standardization of herbal medicine in Korea. Methods： We analyzed the herbal medicine prescription data of patients at the Pusan National University Korean Medicine Hospital from March 2010 to February 2013. We used the Dongui-Bogam （Dong Yi Bao Jian） to classify prescribed herbal medicines. Results： The study revealed that the most frequently prescribed herbal medicine was ‘Liuwei Dihuang Pill （LWDHP, 六味地黄丸）＇ which was used for invigorating ‘Shen （Kidndy）-yin＇. ‘LWDHP＇ was most frequently prescribed to male patients aged 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-89 years, and ‘Xionggui Tiaoxue Decoction （XGTXD, 芎归调血饮）＇ was most frequently prescribed to female patients aged 30-39 and 40-49 years. According to the International Classification of Diseases （ICD） codes,‘Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue＇ showed the highest prevalence. ‘LWDHP＇ and ＇XGTXD＇ was the most frequently prescribed in categories 5 and 3, respectively. Based on the percentage of prescriptions for each sex, ‘Ziyin Jianghuo Decoction （滋阴降火汤）＇ was prescribed to mainly male patients, and ‘XGTXD＇ with ‘Guima Geban Decoction （桂麻各半汤）＇ were prescribed to mainly female patients. Conclusion： This study analysis successfully determined the frequency of a variety of herbal medicines, and many restorative herbal medicines were identified and frequently administered.

While waveguide-based light concentrators offer significant advantages,their application has not been considered an interesting option for assisting multijunction or other two-terminal tandem solar *** this study,we present a simple yet effective approach to enhancing the output power of transfer-printed multijunction InGaP/GaAs solar *** utilizing a simply combinable waveguide concentrator featuring a coplanar waveguide with BaSO4 Mie scattering elements,we enable the simultaneous absorption of directly illuminated solar flux and indirectly waveguided *** deployment of cells is optimized for front-surface photon collection in monofacial *** systematic comparisons across various waveguide parameters,supported by both experimental and theoretical quantifications,we demonstrate a remarkable improvement in the maximum output power of a 26%-efficient cell,achieving an enhancement of~93%with the integration of the optimal scattering ***,a series of supplementary tests are conducted to explore the effective waveguide size,validate enhancements in arrayed cell module performance,and assess the drawbacks associated with rear *** findings provide a comprehensive understanding of our proposed approach towards advancing multi-junction photovoltaics.

This work describes the utilization of D-A-D type organic semiconductor,4,4’-(benzo[c][1,2,5]selenadiazole-4,7-diyl)bis(N,N-diphenylaniline),denoted as Se-2TPA,containing benzoselenadiazole(BSe)as acceptor core and end-capped with triphenylamine(TPA)donor units as donor materials in solar ***,the attachment of TPA donor moiety in BSe acceptor unit enlarged the conjugated system by extending the p-bonding which effectively tuned the optical and electrochemical properties of *** bulk heterojunction organic solar cell(BHJ-OSCs)with configuration of ITO/cp-TiO_(2)/Se-2TPA:PC61BM/Au showed power conversion efficiency(PCE)of~4.12% with short circuit current(Jsc)value of~11.28 mA/cm^(2),open circuit voltage(Voc)of~0.775 V and fill factor(FF)of~*** significantly increased from~4.12% to~5.29% when 1,8-diiodooctane(DIO)was added as an additive in Se-2TPA:PC61BM blend which associated with less phase separation and improved the charge *** fabricated BHJ-OSCs processed with 3%DIO,ITO/cp-TiO_(2)/Se-2TPA:PC61BM/Au configuration displayed a long-term stability under air condition at an ambient temperature by maintaining~80% PCE for the duration of 30 *** advantages of easy synthesis,low cost and promising cell performance supported Se-2TPA as successful organic semiconductor for BHJ-OSCs.

OBJECTIVE: To collect preliminary data on the effects of Saam acupuncture with regard to the immunity in cancer ***: Ten cancer patients were analyzed for improvements in immunity. Acupuncture was applied at the 5 acupuncture points, Jingqu(LU 8), Zutonggu(BL 66), Yanggu(SI 5), Yangchi(TE 4), and Zhongwan(CV 12) for 2 weeks with 4 sessions. We assessed the effect of Korean Saam acupuncture on the immune system in cancer patients by measuring particular blood cell subsets, including CD3 +,CD4+, CD8+, CD19+, and CD56+ cells, as well as total white blood cell count, absolute neutrophil count, and fatigue score. The measurement was performed before and after acupuncture and at a 2-week ***: There was a statistically significant increase in the number of CD3+(P=0.023) and CD8+ cells(P<0.001) and T-cell subsets, as well as a decrease in the fatigue severity scale(FSS) score(P=0.001) after Saam acupuncture using the 5 ***: Acupuncture may improve the immune system by increasing the counts of a few immune cells and relieve fatigue in cancer patients by decreasing FSS scores. Although this was a non-controlled study, it constitutes preliminary research investigating the potential effects of Saam acupuncture in increasing the counts of several immune cells in cancer patients.
