Solid-phase Extraction of β-Sitosterol from Oldenlandia diffusa Using Molecular Imprinting Polymer

The β-sitosterol imprinted polymer was prepared for selective extraction and analysis of β-sitosterol from Old-enlandia diffusa （0. diffusa） followed by HPLC with UV detection. The imprinted polymers show high affinity and selectivity to β-sitosterol. Using this molecularly imprinted polymer （MIP） cartridge as solid-phase extraction （SPE） material, the interferences could be quickly washed out and β-sitosterol was selectively retained and enriched. HPLC analysis method was used to evaluate the characteristics of this MIP material. At the condition of mobile phase composed of MeOH/H20/H3PO4 （99/1/0.1, V/V/V, pH=6.0） and the flow rate of 1.0 mL·min -1, a good linear relationship was demonstrated when the concentrations of β-sitosterol were in the range of 0.50--100.0 μg·mL-1. The recoveries ranged from 75.3% to 86.5% and the inter-day and intra-day relative standard deviations were less than 5%. This developed HPLC method was proved to be acceptable for extraction offl-sitosterol from O. diffusa.

Silicon nanowires（SiNWs） encapsulated with graphene-like carbon sheath（GS） having a void space in between（SiNW@V@GS） are demonstrated for the improved electrochemical performance of Si anode in lithium ion battery. The Si NW@V@GS structure was synthesized by a scalable fabrication method including four successive reactions： metal-catalyzed CVD growth of Si NWs, controlled thermal oxidation, and deposition of the graphitic layer, to form Si NW@SiO2@GS and additional chemical etching of sacrificial SiO2 layer between Si NWs and carbon sheath. During the synthetic process, the thickness of the void spacing was controlled by adjusting the oxidation-dependent process. The well-controlled void space and crystalline graphitic carbon sheath of the SiNW@V@GS structure enable good reversible capacity of1444 m Ahg^（-1） and cycling stability of 85% over 150 cycles.

AIM： To evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics of patients with metastases to the gallbladder （MGBs）. METHODS： We performed a single-center retrospective study of 20 patients with MGBs diagnosed pathologically from 1999 to 2007. RESULTS： Among 417 gallbladder （GB） malignancies, 20 （4.8%） were MGBs. The primary malignancies originated from the stomach （n = 8）, colorectum （n = 3）, liver （n = 2）, kidney （n = 2）, skin （n = 2）, extrahepatic bile duct （n = 1）, uterine cervix （n = 1）, and appendix （n = 1）. Twelve patients were diagnosed metachronously, presenting with cholecystitis （n = 4）, abdominal pain （n = 2）, jaundice （n = 1）, weight loss （n = 1）, and serum CA 19-9 elevation （n = 1）; five patients were asymptomatic. The median survival after the diagnosis of MGB was 8.7 mo. On Cox regression analysis, R0 resection was the only factor associated with a prolonged survival [hazard ratio （HR）： 0.01, P = 0.002]; presentation with cholecystitis was associated with poor survival （HR： 463.27, P = 0.006）. CONCLUSION： MGBs accounted for 4.8% of all pathologically diagnosed GB malignancies. The most common origin was the stomach. The median survival of MGI3 was 8.7 mo.

LiMnOand LiNiAlyMnO（x= 0.50;y = 0.05-0.50） powders have been synthesized via facile solgel method using Behenic acid as active cheiating *** synthesized samples are subjected to physical characterizations such as thermo gravimetric analysis（TG/DTA）,X-ray diffraction（XRD）,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FT-IR）,field-emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）,transmission electron microscopy（TEM） and electrochemical studies viz.,galvanostatic cycling properties,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS） and differential capacity curves（dQ/dE）.Finger print XRD patterns of LiMnOand LiNiAlMnOfortify the high degree of crystallinity with better phase *** images of the undoped pristine spinel illustrate uniform spherical grains surface morphology with an average particle size of 0.5 μm while Ni doped particles depict the spherical grains growth（50nm） with ice-cube surface *** images of the spinel LiMnOshows the uniform spherical morphology with particle size of（100 nm） while low level of Al-doping spinel（LiNio.5Alo.05Mn1.45O4） displaying cloudy particles with agglomerated particles of（50nm）.The LiMnOsamples calcined at 850℃ deliver the discharge capacity of 130 mAh/g in the first cycle corresponds to 94%coiumbic efficiency with capacity fade of 1.5 mAh/g/cycle over the investigated 10 *** all four dopant compositions investigated,LiNiAlMnOdelivers the maximum discharge capacity of 126 mAh/g during the first cycle and shows the stable cycling performance with low capacity fade of 1 mAh/g/cycle（capacity retention of 92%） over the investigated 10 *** impedance studies of spinel LiMnOand LiNiAlMnOdepict the high and low real polarization of 1562 and 1100 Ω.

The use of soft X-rays in a neutralizer represents an alternative technique that could replace conventional radioactive sources. In this study, we evaluated the charging characteristics of a soft X-ray aerosol neu- tralizer. In addition, the results from the evaluation of the soft X-ray charger were compared with results obtained using a neutralizer incorporating an 241 Am radioactive source. The tandem differential mobility analyzer technique was used previously to determine the size-dependent positive, negative, and neutral charge fractions of a soft X-ray neutralizer. This technique was used to show that the neutral fractions obtained using the soft X-ray charger agreed well with the predictions of bipolar diffusion charging the- ory, and that the soft X-ray charger could be used as a neutralizer for a scanning mobility particle sizer system.

The marine medium-speed diesel engines are started by two methods;one is the electric motors,and the other air starting *** though air starting motor is dependent of the engine types and sizes,it has been widely used in this area due to its simplicity,convenience and *** purpose of this paper is to give the designing parameters in order to make a proper "Air Starting Motor" using *** aerodynamic approaches were given to understand the internal flow characteristics of the air starting *** addition,we have carried out the investigation of effects of tip *** the calculations the tip clearance of air starting motor has been varied between 0,2.8,4.3 and 5.7% of blade *** results of computation are the tip clearance increased to 2.8%,the torque decreased 24%,and there was no more large changes when the clearances increased to 4.3% and 5.7%.

AIM： To investigate the correlation of 18F-fluorodeoxy- glucose （18F-FDG） positron emission tomography （PET） with clinical features and the prediction of treatment response. METHODS： A total of 83 hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） patients undergoing 18F-FDG PET before transar- terial chemolipiodolization with systemic chemo-infusion between October, 2006 and May, 2009 were retrospec-tively enrolled. The patients included 68 men and 15 women （mean age, 60 ~ 10.7 years）. The effect of 18F- FDG-monitored PET uptake on clinical features and on the evaluated treatment response was ascertained with modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors. The PET parameters of maximal standardized uptake value of the tumor （Tsuvmax）, the ratio of the tumor maximal standardized uptake value （SUV） to the liver maximal SUV （Tsuvmax/Lsuwax） and the ratio of tumor maximal SUV to the liver mean SUV （msuvmax/LSUVrnean） were tested as predictive factors. RESULTS： Among the 3 SUV parameters, the TSUV- =maxdLsuvmean ratio （cutoff value of 1.90） was significantly associated with tumor burden including tumor size, tu- mor number, α-fetoprotein levels and tumor stage （P 〈 0.001, P = 0.008, P = 0.011, P 〈 0.001, respectively）. The objective response rates in patients with a high SUV ratio （≥ 1.90） were significantly better than those with a low SUV ratio （〈 1.90）（P = 0.020）. The overall survival rates of patients exhibiting a low Tsuvmax/Lsu- Vmean ratio （〈 1.90） and those with a high SUV ratio （≥1.90） was 38.2 and 10.3 mo, respectively （P 〈 0.01）. However, the time to progression showed no significant difference between the groups （P = 0.15）. CONCLUSION： 18F-FDG PET can be an important predictor of HCC treatment. In particular, the Tsuvmax/ Lsuwean ratio （cutoff value of 1.90） can provide useful information in treatment prognosis for HCC patients treated with Iocoregional therapy.
