DNA barcoding is a powerful technique for species identification with little morphological knowledge, by using short sections of DNA from a specific region of the genome. Two core barcode markers, rbcL and matK, and a supplementary nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region were used to examine the effectiveness of the markers for Poaceae barcoding using 133 individuals of 36 taxa across 23 genera of Korean Panicoideae. We also aimed to establish a DNA barcode database for the major weeds of Korean Panicoideae. All three markers revealed a good level of amplification and sequencing success. As a single DNA marker, the ITS region achieved the highest species resolution, followed by matK. Resolving power was increased when nrlTS was incorporated into the core barcode markers. The best resolving power was obtained with a combination of matK ＋ ITS with 89.7%, followed by rbcL ＋ matK ＋ ITS with 89.3%. Thus, rbcL may be not necessary as a DNA barcode for Panicoideae species identification, when considering cost and effectiveness. Instead, a combination of matK ＋ ITS is proposed as the most suitable DNA barcode for the species identification of Panicoideae, Poaceae. We conclude that DNA barcoding using a combination of matK ＋ ITS could be one of powerful techniques for the identification of Poaceae species, The barcode sequences were deposited to the National Center for Biotechnology Information （NCBI） database for public use.

AIM: To investigate the cytotoxicity, anti-inflammatory activity, and action mechanism of root bark extracts of Acanthopanax henryi. METHOD: The hot methanol extract of the root bark of A. henryi was subjected to XAD-4 column chromatography eluting with a gradient of methanol in water. The cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory effects of the MeOH fractions were evaluated on the inhibition on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, interleukin-1β, and interleukin-6 production in RAW 264.7 macrophages. RESULTS: The 80% MeOH fraction was a better inhibitor of LPS-induced NO, PGE2, IL-1β, and IL-6 production, and expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) at the protein levels in a concentration-dependent manner. CONCLUSION: The 80% MeOH fraction of A. henryi root bark has significant anti-inflammatory activity. This provides a pharmacological basis for clinical application for the treatment of inflammation.

Most probable number （MPN） and colony-forming unit （CFU） estimates of fecal indicator bacteria （FIB） concentration are common measures of water quality in aquatic environments. Thus, FIB intensively monitored in Yeongsan Watershed in an attempt to compare two different methods and to develop a statistical model to convert from CFU to MPN estimates or vice versa. As a result, the significant difference was found in the MPN and CFU estimates. The enumerated Escherichia coli concentrations in MPN are greater than those in CFU, except for the measurement in winter. Especially in fall, E. coli concentrations in MPN are one order of magnitude greater than that in CFU. Contrarily, enterococci bacteria in MPN are lower than those in CFU. However, in general, a strongly positive relationship are found between MPN and CFU estimates. Therefore, the statistical models were developed, and showed the reasonable converting FIB concentrations from CFU estimates to MPN estimates. We expect this study will provide preliminary information towards future research on whether different analysis methods may result in different water quality standard violation frequencies for the same water sample.

Prostate stem cell antigen（PSCA） is a cell-membrane glycoprotein consisting of 123 amino acids and highly expressed in the prostate,but there have been few reports on the relationship between rs2294008 of PSCA and prostate cancer in the ***,we evaluated the association between rs2294008 and the risk of prostate cancer.A total of 240 prostate cancer patients and 306 controls（patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia） were *** analysis of rs2294008 of PSCA was performed using *** regression analysis was performed according to the genotype of PSCA *** found that CT and TT genotypes were associated with an insignificant risk of prostate cancer compared with the CC genotype（P= 0.627 and 0.397,respectively）.In addition,there was no significant difference in rs2294008 according to clinicopathological parameters,such as age,Gleason score,prostate-specific antigen（PSA）,stage,and metastasis in prostate cancer（P 〉 0.05 for each）.Age,Gleason score,PSA,pathologic stage,and metastasis did not modify the association between PSCA and the risk of prostate cancer（each P 〉 0.05 for each）.Taken together,the genetic polymorphism of PSCA rs2294008 was not associated with the risk of prostate *** results suggest that rs2294008 may not play a role in prostate carcinogenesis.

The tumor microenvironment consists of diverse,complex etiological *** matrix component of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)plays an important role not only in physical properties such as tissue rigidity but also in cancer progression and therapeutic *** significant efforts have been made to model desmoplastic PDAC,existing models could not fully recapitulate the etiology to mimic and understand the progression of ***,two major components in desmoplastic pancreatic matrices,hyaluronic acid-and gelatin-based hydrogels,are engineered to provide matrices for tumor spheroids composed of PDAC and cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAF).Shape analysis profiles reveals that incorporating CAF contributes to a more compact tissue *** expression levels of markers associated with proliferation,epithelial to mesenchymal transition,mechanotransduction,and progression are observed for cancer-CAF spheroids cultured in hyper desmoplastic matrix-mimicking hydrogels,while the trend can be observed when those are cultured in desmoplastic matrix-mimicking hydrogels with the presence of transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1).The proposed multicellular pancreatic tumor model,in combination with proper mechanical properties and TGF-β1 supplement,makes strides in developing advanced pancreatic models for resembling and monitoring the progression of pancreatic tumors,which could be potentially applicable for realizing personalized medicine and drug testing applications.

主要基于化学动力学和Ng模型,对C2H4-O2混合气体的爆轰胞格尺寸进行预测;结合lee表面积能量模型,预测物质在不同初始压力和化学当量比的条件下,直接起爆引起球面爆轰的临界起爆能量。直接起爆实验主要采用高压电点火提供起爆能量,起爆能量通过放电过程中电流的输出信号确定。结果表明,理论预测与实验值较吻合。首先,通过化学动力学计算得出ZND模型的爆轰参数,利用Ng模型得出爆轰胞格尺寸与ZND诱导区长度之间的比例因数A在不同初始压力与当量比的条件下分别为:A=43.815(1+p1/p0)-0.123 71和A=8.531exp(φ/3.135)+28.644,在此基础上对爆轰胞格尺寸进行定量预测。胞格尺寸的理论预测与实验结果吻合。其次,把爆轰胞格尺寸作为中间特征参数并结合lee的表面积能量模型,提出可以预测临界起爆能量的定量模型,并得出C2H4-O2混合气体直接起爆的临界起爆能量与初始压力和化学当量比的参量拟合关系分别为Ec=0.332(p1/p0)-2.017和Ec=exp[3.951(φ-1.401)2-1.9]。

A large-area high-power radio-frequency（RF） driven ion source was developed for positive and negative neutral beam injectors at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute（KAERI）. The RF ion source consists of a driver region, including a helical antenna and a discharge chamber, and an expansion region. RF power can be transferred at up to 10 kW with a fixed frequency of 2 MHz through an optimized RF matching system. An actively water-cooled Faraday shield is located inside the driver region of the ion source for the stable and steady-state operations of high-power RF discharge. Plasma ignition of the ion source is initiated by the injection of argongas without a starter-filament heating, and the argon-gas is then slowly exchanged by the injection of hydrogen-gas to produce pure hydrogen plasmas. The uniformities of the plasma parameter,such as a plasma density and an electron temperature, are measured at the lowest area of the driver region using two RF-compensated electrostatic probes along the direction of the shortand long-dimensions of the driver region. The plasma parameters will be compared with those obtained at the lowest area of the expansion bucket to analyze the plasma expansion properties from the driver region to the expansion region.
