Freezing temperatures cause different levels of freezing injury and change biochemical components of trees. In this study, the range of survival temperature and variation in electrolyte leakage, and in concentrations of sugar, starch, and proline were determined in peach twigs (jinmi, Changhowonhwangdo, and Kawanakajima Hakuto) exposed to artificially controlled freezing temperature. Freezing temperatures at which the plants were damaged by stress were found to be -21°C in Jan. and Feb., -18°C in Mar., and -6°C in Apr. Electrolyte leakage increased as temperature decreased from -15°C to -24°C at each assessment time. Sugar gradually decreased after the endodormancy period in the late part of winter, and sugar concentration was overall lower in freezing temperature treatments, while starch increased as a result of changing seasons from Jan. to Apr. The trend of proline concentration was related to the survival rate of peach trees during winter. This study suggests possible safe temperatures for survival and cultivation of peach trees as well as identifying freezing temperature effects on internal components of freeze-injured peach twigs.

Tailgut cyst, also called retrorectal hamartoma, is a rare congenital lesion and is usually located anterior to the sacrum and posterior to the rectum. We report a case of double tailgut cyst (presacral and precoccygeal hamartoma). A 62-year- old female visited the hospital complaining of anal pain and pressure in the perianal area for one month. Digital rectal examination revealed a round mass with hard consistency in the lateral and posterior part of rectum 5 cm from the anal verge. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed two cystic and solid presacral masses (lateral and posterior part of rectum) compressing the rectum. The patient underwent surgical resection for pathologic diagnosis. At operation, two masses were located in the left presacral space without invasion to adjacent organs and soft tissue. Pathologic examination revealed double tailgut cysts without malignant transformation. A differential diagnosis of perirectal cystic hamartoma includes epidermal cysts, cystic teratomas, dermoid cysts, anal gland cysts, sarcoma and rectal duplications. Regional inflammatory process frequently complicates this lesion and perirectal fistula can develop. Tailgut cyst also has a malignancy potential, with development of adenocarcinomas. To establish a definite diagnosis and prevent complication, complete surgical resection is recommended.

A Study on Water Repellent Effectiveness of Natural Oil-Applied Soil as a Building Material

This study was performed to investigate the water repellent effectiveness of natural oil-applied soil when it is used as a building material. Natural oil types such as olive oil, bean oil, perilla oil and linseed oil, which are being used for producing water repellent timber, are selected for the experiments. It is expected that perilla oil and in seed oil, which are drying oil types will have better water repellent effectiveness than the other types. For the evaluation of water repellence of natural oil-applied soil, a contact angle test was performed. A contact angle of water drop on various surface conditions were tested, and large differences were seen between the natural oil-applied soil and untreated soil. As a result, it is showed that all natural oil types have water repellent effectiveness. However, linseed oil, which is a drying oil type, shows an outstanding water repellent effectiveness value, while perila oil, which is also a drying oil type, shows the lowest value. Additionally, results show that there is no link between water repellent effectiveness and the number of applications of natural oil. Nevertheless, existing commercial water repellents show better performance than natural oil, and it is anticipated that the results of this study will provide essential information for further research to enhance the water repellent effectiveness of soil as a building material.

为了研究小胶质细胞和血中炎症细胞对脑炎症的影响,在正常和白细胞减少大鼠的黑质致密部(SNpc)、皮层和海马注射脂多糖(LPS),用特异标记来研究中性粒细胞、小胶质细胞和单核细胞的行为学。CD11b+和Iba-1+阳性细胞在正常脑和LPS注射后6h反应相似。注射后12hIba-1+细胞消失而CD11b+变成圆形。CD11b/Iba-1双阳性网状小胶质细胞在LPS注射后6h死亡。注射后12h检测到的CD11b+细胞是MPO+细胞。这些CD11b+/MPO+细胞在白细胞减少的大鼠脑内不出现,提示中性粒细胞浸润。MPO+中性粒细胞表达一氧化氮合酶(iNOS)、IL-1β、环氧合酶-2(COX-2)和单核细胞趋化蛋白-1(MCP-1),但在注射后18h死亡。在24h检测到的CD11b+细胞是浸润的单核细胞,因为这些细胞曾经是Iba-1+而且在白细胞减少的大鼠脑内不出现。而且,在LPS注射的脑内可以检测到移植的单核细胞。这些结果提示,在发生炎症的脑内,至少有一部分中性粒细胞和单核细胞被认为是活化的小胶质细胞。

A DC-DC converter for flash memory IPs performing erasing by the FN (Fowler-Nordheim) tunneling and programming by the CHEI (channel hot electron injection) is designed in this paper. For the DC-DC converter for flash memory IPs using a dual voltage of VDD (=1.5V±0.15V)/VRD (=3.1V±0.1V), a scheme of using VRD (Read Voltage) instead of VDD is proposed to reduce the pumping stages and pumping capacitances of its charge pump circuit. VRD (=3.1V±0.1V) is a regulated voltage by a voltage regulator with an external voltage of 5V, which is used as the WL activation voltage in the read mode and an input voltage of the charge pump. The designed DC-DC converter outputs positive voltages of VP6V (=6V), VP8V (=8V) and VP9V(=9V);and a negative voltage of? VM8V (=-8V) in the write mode.
